Backlot Express closing date????

I always confuse the two.

I was actually meeting friends one time and they told me to meet them at the "Backlot Express". so, my 7-year old and I traipsed across the park (from Star Tours nonetheless) to what I thought was the right place – only to find out it was the "Studio Catering Co." across form The Backlot Tour and "Backlot Express" was actually next to Star Tours, where we had just been. Ugh!

The name makes no sense. Even when the park first opened, it still wasn't anywhere close to the Backlot.

I always thought it was named that because Indiana Jones stunt show poured out into it and it kind of matched the theme as well.

I always get confused over the names of those places... at first I was jumping for joy thinking it was the backlot ride but then realized it was the food place... who bright idea was it to name them the way they are.

Backlot Express is our go-to quick service at DHS. Their veggie sandwich is pretty good (100x better than the cold slop they call a "sandwich" at Cosmic Ray's!) and it's usually pretty quiet in there. It certainly isn't fine dining, but it had air conditioning, fun decor (Horizons props!), and free refills. Plus it beats Pizza Planet or ABC Commissary. But if its closure means actual progress for the Studios, then I will bid it farewell.

That places never intrigues us. It's just there. Does not look appealing and neither does them good. Retheme it and redo them menu.

Don't know why...but I never liked that place. It always seemed totally uninviting.
Agree.
I ate at Backlot Express once a few years ago and enjoyed the veggie sandwich option and fries a lot, but the atmosphere did not have a lot of visual appeal to me.
Oh sure i enjoyed some of the cool props located around the buildings, but the indoor eating areas were somewhat...ehh...

I remember later that day i was approached at the exit gates to take a survey if i had eaten at any of the DHS dining locations.
I did, and had quite a bit to say.

Baiscially covering how i enjoyed the food, but was not overly keen on the themed area of that particular location.

Can we get confirmation that Backlot tour is indeed closing? Is OP a CM? I hope it's true and I hope the rumors about a massive overhaul of the Studio come true

To me, that's the only decent place to eat at Studios. I either eat there or go to Epcot and grab something at one of the countries.

To me, Backlot Express is your basic WDW fare (Burgers, nuggets, etc.). If I have to eat quick service at DHS, I like Studio Catering Co. with their selections of (WDW-ish) gourmet sandwiches. I only wish it wasn't outside.

Still, as much as I like Studio Catering Co., it needs to be gutted and turned into Pizza Planet. Perfect location for it, especially if they would convert the shop across the walkway into Al's Toy Barn.

There was so many things to look at in the seating area. Like The Weasel's Toon Patrol Car, Benny The Cab's Exoskeleton, Props from Horizons, random signs from movies & tv shows from the late 80's & Early 90's. But, My favorite things have to be the Advertisement flyer for Six Flags Magic Mountain for 1988 when The Ninja was new and Had Sylvester Jr on it. Making him the Only Looney Tunes Character to be in a Disney Theme Park..:D

Sorry to see Backlot Express go, it's one of the only decent CS places to eat in DHS!
Now if we are talking about the Backlot Tour closing I am wondering if anyone can tell me if
the AFI Showcase will also be closing?

Backlot Tour isn't part of this rumor (which would be to be converted into a Star Wars cantina restaurant) but it is part of the rumored CarsLand project. AFI would most certainly have to move if CarsLand happens.

I would hope AFI would move somewhere if this happens but where would it go?
