Some maps produced by Disney or their sponsors that might help make sense of things..

Silicon Graphics map showing where their exhibit is/was in West:

And the Disney map they used to have:

Remember that funky hallway i ended up in once that is right behind the counter and wall at Guest Relations?

I get the feeling it leads to that door that is seperating Forests from Fantastic Plastics.

That's what it would have to be, unless there is another hallway hiding back there somewhere that I somehow missed during my tenure at Innoventions.

So, if we look at the little picture from silicon graphic - that hall seperates guest relations from the rest of Innoventions and terminate at that doorway right next to Plastics.

So plastics is that blob on the silicon map.

Can we get an overlap of the silicon map onto marni's map and we'll know exactly where plastics ended and the old theater was in relation?

Okie, new overlays!

Combines of both maps overlayed:

Notice that though neither is perfect, they agree on where the wall behind Plastics is located. Sort of cutting into what was the Backstage Magic show space.

Here's the Silicon Graphics map alone:

And the Disney Innoventions map alone:

Well, i guess the question is.. did Fantastic Plastics have a wall aligned with the curve of the building or was it further back? Anyone recall?

There is nothing hardly controlled from Central anymore, not since they decentralized central back in 1994. There is no point in reopening any half existent walls.

You know what, I'm not positive now, because the window backstage is not curved. I think you're right about the curved portion looking down into Guest Relations.
The curved window visible from Guest Relations is now office space for one of the Epcot executives. I had a meeting up there about a year ago. I'm trying to rack my brain to remember any meaningful detail about what's up there. I do know that I took a wrong turn somewhere and briefly ended up in what looked like an old theater/projection room sort of near there. I don't recall seeing any models of the park. I do, however, recall going past a large room with mirrors on the walls on the first floor, approximately behind the forest exhibit (I was rather unsuccessfully looking for the bathroom, which turned out to be in the tunnel).

There is still a lot of things controlled from there. Just not any individual rides like it used to be. Still the parkwide lighting, audio, and ECS is controlled from there. All the wiring is still there, so it is like a hub or a junction box now for some of the rides.

They should be able to condense all those cabinets down to a desk top or two with modern computing power. Then they could open it back up and actually display a show there or something. Seems like a waste of space to me. That used to be a great building.

I'm not one to really harken back to the old EPCOT Center days, but this is one area I would like to see again. I'm not a real big fan of Innoventions, but since I have no idea how to make it better, I usually don't say anything.

Note:

They're cutting a hole into the faux-wall that was behind Forests (right next to Fantastic Plastic) right along where those overhead circles/faux solar lights are. I got pics i'll post later (prolly tomorrow).
