Back into Backstage Magic/Computer Central?

A quick question..

Since they closed Fantastic Plastic Works, which is reportedly where the wall that leads to Backstage Magic/Computer central was built, and they have a permit on record for a "wall rework" in Innoventions East - is that area perhaps becoming accessible to guests again?

Also, if the new storm/weather area just covering Forest of our Future (also behind walls) or is Fantastic Plastics meant to be part of that?

And to note - Tom Morrow 2.0 is dead. They put a wall up over his last little outpost at the exit into the Breezeway by Electric Umbrella and Mouse Gear.

I would like that.I vaguely remember it from the early '90's and always thought it was cool.Sad to here about Tom though.

Seems like Innoventions is getting a ton of work latley.Any reason?

What do you vaguely remember from the early 90's?

I hope they are turning Inno into something intresting again. I have seen it from a year after it opened with lots of fun things to do and see to a few years ago when it was nothing to last december when you could see it was coming back!

Jerm, why do you keep doing this?I remember seeing it when I was 3 or 4 and enjoyed the computers.Sure,my Dad had to explain what they are and what they did but I liked(and like) the idea then and now. It's something very well suited and themed for Epcot.

Okay, here's the story...

That back wall of Fantastic Plastic Works that has/had the video screen above the show presenter is exactly where the big windows are where you would look through into Computer Central. Those windows are still there just on the other side of that wall. It's possible they could clear the windows for viewing once again into Computer Central, but I highly doubt it. For one thing they would have to do some serious cleaning and reorganizing in there, I've been in there a few times, and they have all kinds of cabinets and shelves and things up against the windows, stuff all over place. Not everything at EPCOT is even controlled from there anymore. Incidentally, they still have the video screens and large EPCOT Center model up above that was part of the show!

Also, if the new storm/weather area just covering Forest of our Future (also behind walls) or is Fantastic Plastics meant to be part of that?

Fantastic Plastic Works will definitely be something different. One of the Cast Members I talked to there had heard something about something involving creating your own roller coaster like CyberSpace Mountain at Downtown Disney. It's a complete CommuniCore revival! But they couldn't do one large venue across those two areas because it would cut-off Cast access to the backstage areas, there's a door between those two exhibit spaces.

And to note - Tom Morrow 2.0 is dead. They put a wall up over his last little outpost at the exit into the Breezeway by Electric Umbrella and Mouse Gear.

Yeah, I had noticed that a couple of weeks ago, and forgot to mention it. Kind of a shame.

Okay, so I`m trying to get my bearings....

ImagineerMMC; you`re saying they removed the 3 tier viewing balcony that used to be the mainshow of Backstage Magic? That`d make the old windows right behind the Fantastic Plastics wall. I recalled there was a drop behind the windows into Central to accommodate the peppers ghost area; if so how could they stack things against the windows? Or is there still part of the guest viewing area intact with this area used as storage? I`m not nit-picking, more trying to visualise what the area is like now since CCore-Innoventions changes is yet another niche area of interest for me

To follow on Marni's post:

I'd really like to see a floor plan or diagram that show the location, as well as the layout for the old presentation.

Yeah, that balcony would be in the space where the Plastics running game is/was. If you smashed a hole in that back wall behind the host, you would encounter those windows. All of Computer Central is about two or three feet lower than the rest of Innoventions. Remember that door that leads backstage I was talking about, between the former Forests for Our Future and Plastics venues? If you walk back there, it's a hallway that curves to the right and declines to meet with the elevation of Computer Central. There is a door on the right down that hallway that leads in there. Up until about that point, that whole area used to be onstage. (The walls near the ceiling are mirrored like they still are in Innoventions West across from Segway, above the video games, and plenty of wall-carpet!) If you go through that door, you would be in Computer Central, with the windows immediately on your right, and you can see where the bottom of them are two or three feet are above the ground. And they've got all kinds of storage cabinets, Segways parked, lots of stuff right against them.

Thanks ImagMMC; that makes perfect sense. I did see that corridor last October and wondered if it bisected old CCore all the way to the VIP doors / Central entrance.

NASAMan; it just so happens...

It's a shame they haven't done too much with Tom during the Zoog Disney Era with the Imagineer That commercial breaks.

Yeah. I wish they could have done more. He's been pretty unknown ever since they stopped doing his segments, like you mentioned.

Now they just do Imagineer That! with Disney Channel starts encouraging you to use your imagination.

I wish they brought back the original version with the behind the scenes of some of the attractions.

Hey, that diagram really helps me put things into perspective. If I'm right, that VIP room was elevated above and has mirrored windows. That being the case, it's still there, now a conference lounge for Innoventions, overlooking that backstage hallway area I was talking about previously. I'm assuming the boxes with the "X"s would be elevators, which I know of one for sure that is back there. The only thing that is throwing me off is the placement of the doors near the Great American Census, but if I remember right, those aren't there anymore, are they? I know the building is arranged somewhat different, that they added the section for Guest Relations.

The wall/windows we've been talking about would be that line above and to the right of the "L", with Plastics occupying the general vicinity of that whole cluster of letters.

Glad to help. Yep, it`s still there - and it was elevated, though I thought today the curved window looked down onto Guest Relations (is it split, half onto GR and half backstage?)

You got it.

Ahh... not doors... stairs. Remember when the main areas of CCore were sunk into the ground? These were the main steps down from the main walkway, either side of the sculpture. Innoventions had most of the pits filled with concrete - only the Disney VR/exhibition space (currently EPCOTs 25th) and club cool are still sunk.

You know what, I'm not positive now, because the window backstage is not curved. I think you're right about the curved portion looking down into Guest Relations.

Yep :D

Well... I'm not sure, because it looks like the same marking designating the doors that lead out to Universe of Energy (currently closed, between Plastics and the House of Innoventions). And that protusion near the Comput-a-Coaster, would that be that wall that sticks out with the CommuniCore sign?

LOL-A toy or the actual thing? That would be pretty cool to have that in your house.

I think the listing had said it was a full-size mock-up that was made as a test figure.
