Asked my sister a few hours ago if she wanted to see it tonight. She said yes. Flash forward a couple hours and she changed her mind :( I’m seeing it Tuesday, but I want to see it again now

My second viewing was by myself without my BFF. Being able to go to the movies by oneself is a liberating experience! See the midnight show! Call in sick tomorrow!! Make the record-breaking weekend breakier!!!

And that total is without China and Russia. If it had those two it would have easily been over $700 million.

Face it, the movie is great and Disney knocked it out of the park, its trending to make over a billion in under a week. My local cinema has been open until early morning and they have been packed. Its just like the Force Awakens only this time the movie is actually good.

Its going to give Avatar a run, its locked to make 2 billion easy, how much more will be amusing to watch.

^ THIS ^

i think the credit to Disney here is that they let marvel studios make the movies and leave them mostly alone. I didn’t entirely trust feige before...but I do now.

The one that was a mark on the marvel movies was when the studio intervened on corporates behalf and chased whedon.

Marvel has eclipsed a lucasfilm
Property for me in terms of rewatchability and excitement. I’m middle aged and then I was a kid pre-internet that had to rely on my imagination and action figures.

And THAT...shouldn’t be possible.

Disney needs to stay the course with one Franchise and reverse it with another.

I'm planning to go this week while my kids are in school for a 2nd viewing.
I love going to the movies by myself, but tonight’s out of the picture now :( Have to take my sister to the airport at 5:30 tomorrow morning, so anything too late is out of the picture. I’ll just wait til Tuesday for my friend, and then wait and see if I have the control to wait until my BF and I binge through the MCU before seeing it a third time without him.

I definitely can see myself taking a Wednesday afternoon off to see it again sometime this summer. Who knows, this could be the first movie I watch 4 times in theaters since the first Avengers

It subverted expectations and didn't follow the 3 act story that almost all other action movies (including super hero, sci-fi, action, fantasy, thriller, spy, etc.) . Lots of B stories combined into one cogent movie. As a 48 year old dude who used to read a lot of Marvel comics, amazed at how well they captured the feel of a comic book universe in cinema. This movie is actually quite an accomplishment for many reasons. The whole MCU is quite an accomplishment for many reasons. I can't believe I have to wait a year. As a kid this story might take another year to end, but I'd get 1/12th of the story every month. Plus, I thought they might under power Thanos for the movie. Not the case. I typed a bit more, but hadn't read any spoilers the last couple of pages and decided to stop.

First movie my ten year old was actually giddy to see afterward (minions...but that doesn’t count)...

They did a great job of making a fun, memorable movie that was Fan and popcorn flick crowd friendly (I’m gonna skip the comparison/contradiction that’s obvious here)

I think it was all that the hero’s were all setpieces to thanos’s story...I think that was bold and will pay dividends in fandom forever - which is Disney’s whole damn goal.

I will start by saying I just had the pleasure of seeing Infinity War this afternoon. This movie was exciting, exhilarating, breathtaking, emotional, with just the right amount of humor. It is amazing to me how the MCU franchise continues to find directors, writers and actors/ actresses that in totality are capable of continuing to knock these movies out of the park. I used to get overly excited for the new Star Wars movies but The Last Jedi changed that for me. I have never experienced that with the Marvel franchise. Infinity War shocked me with how daring it was. And it captured that feeling of a spectacle, of what we would call an event movie. I hope this makes several billion dollars so that this franchise continues far into the future. I will be there, front and center as the lights go down in the theater.

I have to agree across the board...

I think what mcu has going for it is even if a certain movie doesn’t knock your socks off...none actually disappoint.

I thought homecoming was spectacular...other’s didn’t as much.

I thought ragnarok was too teen type nonsense...others loved it.

I think black panther was good...but tried to overextend the backstory of a character that already had development in the two cap movies. Kinda like what dc did with Wonder Woman, but not as successfully.

The thing is none of them disappointed anyone.

And that’s what makes the mcu the greatest action/sci fi/ adventure franchise in modern movies. Dethroning the old champion (operator error) and now far ahead of peter Jackson and the lord of the rings movies and old only challenged on scale by harry of hogwarts.

As far as comics go...it’s dusted Nolan’s dark night and has way more than the gold standard of super movies - first real one: Superman

On your main point...I agree...and remember we get berated and told we are wrong when it’s pretty common sense we are right. A receipt is just a receipt...legacy is beyond the bank vault.

I believe the reason for that is the differences between the 2 leaders. I feel that Kevin is better able to understand what fans want, while keeping things fresh and true to the source material. Unfortunately Kathleen took the DC approach and instead of crafting a road map like marvel did, they decided to play it as you go. What Marvel has done is truly amazing. Hopefully Lucasfilm takes a page from them with the next sets of movies.

KK has been a dismal failure...box office receipts driven by hype/nostalgia and blind faith isn’t sustainable If the movies aren’t true to the spirit and don’t resonate long term.

Iger will be long gone when it becomes clear...

I can’t wait till the next “installment” tops out at “only $900 million” worldwide and we get all the sarcasm about the trend. Revenues from product are already way down. The generation is giving up and the two that follow won’t care.

The goose can’t lay eggs if it can’t breathe.

Anyway...infinity war didn’t disappoint...I think the redemption arc of next year’s movie, tentatively titled: “avengers, please sign back on cheap Downey, evans, and hemsworth” is pretty easy to predict and we’re gonna love it...and people will look back on this 10+ year ride as something so unique in a sea of disappointment/crap movies.

We’re lucky.
