I was really excited about BP. Not because I care about the character, but because I didn't know much about the character outside of his appearances and what I remembered from my Marvel Card collection.

Same as Ant Man. And, I loved that movie as a result!

I knew he was cool, lived in an advanced society, blah blah.

When it got all political, I got worried, but then the reviewers I trust (which are NOT the NYT or highbrow ones, but simple youtube peeps) said it was really good.

They said the same about Ragnarok.

So...I sortof regret missing both.

I will say, Wakanda looked great in Infinity War. Loved it. Though, the Congolese accents (is that what they are attempting?) were a bit...iffy. For that accent, Nigerian or Somolian is better...less throaty. Though, if I were watching an entire movie with it, probably wouldn't bother me as much.

I much prefer how Mr. Ekko, for example, does it. But, for that it was a british guy doing a Nigerian accent.

I'm encouraged, frankly. We'll see. That's the one movie that I'm hoping they do right. Because, she's a really interesting character...or can be.

I mean, I was furious with what XMen 3 did with the Dark Phoenix story...not the same, but...you get the idea. We'll see....

I'll say this...women in the MCU, at least, seem to kick .

Granted, they have super powers blah blah, and the drama (Scarlet Witch lost her brother, blah blah).

It isn't the story topic, per se...it's how it is handled.

As I noted on a chat with someone else...only in a good movie that truly understands the characters it is working with, and trusts that its audience does as well, can they do a joke where you have a wrestler in green body paint pretending he is invisible because he is standing still...and the whole theater cracks up (or at least my audience compatriots did).

The plot can be silly, it can be predictable (who didn't know that Thanos was going to "well up" and toss her off the ledge?...we all did) But, they did it in such a way where you are left saying...maybe? Maybe? Maybe they won't?

And the reveal of Red Skull just before...

Extremely well done. They didn't dumb this movie down for test audiences, they assumed you knew the lore, and built on that.

They assume people like me who are only mediocre in the MCU lore, I still had more than enough to chew on.

And someone fresh into the franchise, seeing this as their first movie? Well, that's where you say..."lets start with Movie #1...Iron Man"...

Just epic.

Star Wars on the other hand gives us some purple haired nobody in a prom dress and says we should care about her because of backstory that you can find in poorly marketed books that hadn't been out for even a year.

Actually, I can point to when I made myself brush up on the MCU...

To create that, I went on a two week binge of everything from the movies to the (season 2, I think) TV shows. Watched it all.

And, I must admit...when that theme started blasting during the Scotland fight scene, I was...really...really...really happy.

I teared up.

The Red Skull reveal made me want to go back and watch that movie, just to see the ending again and see how it links (if it does)...

Whomever mapped this out (we know who mapped this out, this is an 80's/90's plot from the Marvel rebirth being retold)...but...they did a great job keeping it all together.

I hadn't linked Red Skull to the soul stone at all. The rest, I sortof knew already.

Oh, I meant to add, this ensamble film did what it was supposed to do for a franchise. Make you want to see more.

See, I didn't see Iron Man. After SpiderMan 3, I refused to go to Superhero movies.

I did go see Dark Knight because everyone said it was amazing, and it was amazing. So, after that, I wanted to see the other Batmans (went back and watched Begins, etc.)

But, the Marvel stuff...hollywood has rarely done Superheros right, and I disregarded the hype over Iron Man, etc. I do remember I went and saw Hulk in theaters (that was a mistake...the first one, not the reboot within a year, though I eventually saw that one later).

Anyway, I was getting tired again...didn't go to Ragnarok, didn't go to Black Panther. I didn't like Civil War very much. Loved Spiderman. Loved Deadpool. Loved Antman. Didn't really like Guardians 2.

So...hit or miss...I'll wait for Netflix.

But, this movie made me want to go home and immediately put in Ragnarok and Black Panther, and watch them as soon as I can. I don't even know if Black Panther is on Netflix yet...but, I want to see it.

That...that is what an ensemble movie should do. Draw people in, draw those straying back in...

Marvel nailed it.

Star Wars...is failing.

But, hey, the Force is Female ya'll.... (and it just got b-slapped by a comic book movie...take that Kathleen!)

The only MCU films on Netflix are Civil War, Doctor Strange, and Guardians 2.

Spidey & Thor are out on digital and DVD/Blu-Ray. Black Panther comes out on digital this Tuesday, and DVD/Blu-Ray on the 15th. You can still find that one in some theaters though, if you really want the experience (which I recommend, the visuals are gorgeous).

My new theory is that Tony Stark had to survive because he can use his nanotechology to help defeat Thanos.

He couldn't work on it before because he literally had NO time, as soon as they found out about what was happening, BOOM, the children of Thanos were attacking (which I love)

Especially since Strange saw only one possible outcome for the Avengers to prevail and he gave up the time stone in order to save Tony's life when earlier in the film he mentioned he would sacrifice all to protect the time stone.

Alright people with children- how do you try to warn someone taking their sons to IW that the kids’ favorite superheroes appear to die onscreen? I’m at the hair salon right now, and my stylist is taking her kids to see the movie tomorrow, and I want to say 2/3 are under the age of 10.

Update- I gave her a light warning (it’s sad, does not end on a happy note), she wanted to know who died, I just told her that a lot of characters died. Her youngest is six, but she said they’ve taught him about death lately with the passing of his grandma’s dog. So if this thread gets a bump in 3 months, it’s me with my update of what she, her husband, and her kids thought of the movie lol
