A possibility is that he doesn't want to deal with the emotions of bailing on Black Widow...

Nah he didn't want to come out as he has never really had anyone beat the snot out of him and was pretty much scared to come out, also of note Thanos is probably about the only being able to go toe to toe with Hulk but even he chooses to stay away from him whenever possible.

First, great discussion here :)

Second, LOVED the movie, going to see it again tomorrow...it was SO EPIC...almost Biblical at the end.

Third, some thoughts, unanswered questions going forward....

- I'm not sure if I agree with the "Snap" theory about all characters before being 100% dead. We don't know whether um, T'challa's sister (Forgot her name) was able to do something for Vision, or maybe even Tony can help him later to "reboot" or something.

- What if Thanos is happy now, but then has regrets over Gamora and decides to do something once he's bored and lonely?

- I think Dr. Strange is the key to all of this, he knows the one chance they had and that Tony Stark HAD to survive. I think it's nice that the franchise character (Iron Man) that really kicked off the MCU would be the one who HAS to survive

- VERY Interesting that there's a scene in the trailer that DIDN'T happen in the movie, because we see Cap and several Avengers, including the Hulk running, but we know the Hulk didn't come out...so I really wonder WHEN that changed in production.

I honestly don't think that shot was ever intended to be in the film tbh Every trailer needs a "Hero Shot" and they needed a way for Hulk to be in the trailer without giving away his actual plot from the film. There's loads of shots that were in the trailers that weren't in the final film. For example:

- Different version of "We're using our made up names" scene
- Thor lifting Stormbreaker and Rocket and Groot looking on in awe
- Shots of Bucky cocking his gun in Wakanda
- Doctor Strange cgied out of the Quill and Tony plan scene
- Natasha and Bruce talking by the Hulkbuster suit prebattle
- Quill's "The hand means stop" gag got cut on Knowhere
- Cap and T'Challa looking out of the window prebattle
- Different version of "Get this man a shield" scene
- The number of stones in the Infinity Gauntlet when Thanos is fighting Cap
- Mantis and co. cgied out when Peter Parker was swinging around on Titan grabbing them in his webbing

And I'm sure there's more but those are just the ones I remember off the top of my head. Funko even made a Pop! of Hulk busting out of the Hulkbuster and that never happened either

I don’t think I could handle Iron Man dying. When I thought he was, it tore me up more than any other part. Then again, you can ask my 2 year old grandson who his Gigi’s fave superhero is, and without missing a beat- he will tell you... Me, while pointing at himself, but 2nd fave he says I-Yon Maaan.
Seriously, the movie was so good, I could have went back today. I see it doing so well with repeat viewings. I know I will see it at least twice, and maybe 3 times.

I may be way off but I took Thor saying Thanos killed half his people to mean that the half that was left after Hela?

Very disappointed. I thought it was overhyped and lacking in story and action. Said no one ever.
Seriously though I LOVED it! Might be going back for a second viewing tomorrow, but if not surely by this time next weekend. One thought however. After the end credits scene, I am convinced that many of the deaths in this movie are characters that will most certainly return. Why would they kill off such a important character in the post credits scene? Yes it worked to introduce Thanos in post credits of previous Avenger movies because, whether you missed it or not, you would still know of him by the time Inf. War came out. But to kill off someone like Fury in post credits, as his final scene in the cinematic universe, I don't think so. I am keeping optimistic that he and others will be back.
I would think that a anyone who was dusted has s good possibility of being saved I. The next film. You don’t get rid of Spider-man, Peter Quil and Black Panther like that. They are the headliners of franchises. Also we will see Nick in Captain Marvel next year. Well 1990s Nick Fury.

I hope you are wrong about that. He was always a entertaining character to watch.

Something else I noticed last night while leaving the theater. The audience, the entire audience was as pumped as I was, and seemed ready to turn around and watch it all over again. Back in December when leaving the same theater after TLJ's opening, it was very different. There were some who seemed happy, others disappointed, and others ANGRY. But not Infinity War last night. Everyone seemed so electric and eager for what happens next. I'll admit the wait until Av4 is going to be antagonizing.

We went to Alamo Drafthouse for TLJ, our first time. They really push, "no talking or you will get kicked out." During TLJ the theater was so quiet, no usual cheering when the OT characters appeared for the first time, no clapping for credits, and silence as we were walking out. I wondered if it was because of the rules, or if people were like me...very unhappy. We went back for Black Panther, but it was after it had been out for awhile and there were only a few people in the theater. Yesterday, we went back for the 3rd time for Avengers and the audience was really into it. Laughing, clapping, etc. And almost everyone stayed for the post-credit scene. The most I've ever seen. So not only did I get the sense that people really enjoyed Infinity War, but that they really must not have liked TLJ.

I don't think Tony will die. Even though I strongly believe Steve is a goner. Tony invited Wong and the Guardians to the wedding. So I am optimistic the wedding will happen. The baby dream is real. Tony will give up the suit to take care of his family. But he'll be around to hand out new tech, as a cameo, whenever RDJ feels like it.

I also went to ADH for all those movies s s there wasn’t a huge amount of noise but there was laughing and gasps. A few people clapped when Cap first showed up on the train platform. Most people were in Marvel gear. Definitely big fans. There was no talking as people left the theater as they had posted signs everywhere saying not to discuss the movie in the theater building. The best crowd I was ever in at ADH or anywhere was the women’s only showing of Wonder Woman. Great energy, appreciate clapping and cheering.

Not going to say who but some of the people who died (not dusted) have more films in their Marvel contracts. So we will see them again even if they are in flashbacks.

That I can handle and it would be fitting. Killing him off, though...NO! He deserves the happy ending. I hope you are right!

Couple of things:

1. The Russo brothers are the absolute best directors for Marvel. Just incredible. Loved the Captain America films that they did. I think they should direct all future Marvel films. They absolutely NAILED this Avengers film. I loved the Guardians in THIS film WAY MORE than the overrated first two Guardians of the Galaxy. Why? All about the directing. I think James Gunn is very mediocre and very overrated.

2. I got emotional when Peter was holding Tony begging not to go before he got disintegrated into ash.

3. Thanos was the best villain in any Marvel film. Josh Brolin was phenomenal.

4. It made sense why Doctor Strange went back on his word and decided to save Tony Stark by giving up the stone. Out of the 13 million different outcomes that Doctor Strange saw in the future, the ONE that they win is because of Tony Stark. The 4th Avengers will have to DEPEND on all of them, but MOSTLY Tony. They can't do it without him.
