That's a long story. Pretty much the purchase of Marvel and Lucasfilm was cast in order to get the coveted male demographic who aren't into Princess stories and talking animals. Disney did try their best starting their own action film franchises that would cater to this crowd: Tron Legacy, Prince of Persia, Sorcerer's Apprentice, Lone Ranger, Tomorrowland, John Carter (and the list goes on..) and unfortunately none of these examples ever reached the heights of the Pirates franchise at its peak.
On the theme park side, we all know the recipe of a good theme park attraction. Look at Cars, first movie was good but the two sequels aren't as critically acclaimed. Who would have thought a franchise about talking cars would make for a great attraction? But somehow Disney Imagineering made it come together, Cars Land works because the place was designed with a lot of heart. You feel like you are actually in Radiator Springs, you see these iconic characters come alive, the kinetic energy, thrilling music, and realistic landscaping is magnificent. Somehow corporate economics went into the picture for Galaxy's Edge and unfortunately wasn't able to capture the magic that made Cars Land so great. With an infinite amounts of worlds, characters and storytelling, Star Wars and Marvel have so much to offer for all demographics and unfortunately both projects seem to lack the Disney magic that made Cars Land so great.
