I have all of the Disney/Pixar 3D releases. The Little Mermaid 3D release is a blast, because it looks like it was shot on the old multiplane camera.

Anyway, the next evolution of 3D is glasses-free 3D displays, which were demonstrated at the CES a few years ago, but had issues with viewing angles. When they crack it, I imagine Disney and the entire theme park industry will be all over it.
Great. It will be like watching my 3DS.

At the moment this Spiderman ride doesn't sound like much. However, there is a rumor that we would not simply be shooting at screens, but at sets and props as well. Projection mapping would make it appear that our ammunition is impacting the sets. If true, and well executed, there may be something to this attraction after all. At least I hope so, time will tell.

Thanks, yes! What if this is Dick Tracy’s Crimestoppers reborn and mixed with Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway?

As a life-long Marvel and Theme Park fan I am obviously very interested to see what Disney does with Marvel rides, I loved Mission Breakout, but I have to admit it's pretty disappointing that Spider-Man will be a shooter. It just feels like Disney saw what Universal did with Spidey over twenty years previous and said "Well we can't beat that so why even try", hoping for the best but it's hard to imagine this being something mindblowing.

I'll probably turn out to be wrong, but I expect we'll know exactly what this ride will be like on March 31st when Ant-Man and Wasp: Nano Battle opens. I don't expect them to make two Marvel shooters within a few years and not use the same system at this point. I may be wrong, but I got the impression AMaW will be using some level of physical sets, which would be very welcome. I quite loved Toy Story Mania, but on my last visit, it's really showing it's age. Not so much the ride, but those dying projectors are in desperate need of replacement.

Perhaps, but that whole Antman project is really just a re-theme of their existing Buzz Lightyear ride on a modest budget. It may give some clues, but it’s quite different from a brand new build.

What was the episode name or number of Jim Hill / Disney Dish where this rumor was discussed? I think I'm all caught up and heard nothing about it (most recent episode on itunes is about climate change policy at disney/wdw).

Marvel Us Disney Episode 25- one of his other podcasts. It's only mentioned for a line or two, where they both react with groans.

@SuddenStorm Did they not just say that they are bringing over the antman ride and not the ride system as Spider-man? 29-30 minutes in. In typical Jim Hill fashion, he says before a commercial break that they are going to detail something about the parks, and then instead spends 25 minutes talking about a defunct marvel restaurant at universal studios hollywood and the naming rights for marvel theme park attractions.

Correction: They detail it in the 20-30 minute range. Either way, Disney is doing one spider-man shooter, and considering bringing over an ant-man shooter? Has anybody on this marvel expansion project ever been to a theme park? This project is so far off the rails it needs emergency brakes.

What if they will be using the same 2.5D tech they are using for MMRR on this Spider-Man attraction? Basically a blended world of physical sets, AAs, and projection mapping to make a more realistic world instead of just plain screens. Add to that a unique ride system and it could make this a very interesting attraction.

to add to this, Since it's an Buzz overlay why build a new attraction from the ground up when you can use the existing infrastructure across the street??? Also where would it go, assuming that the expansion pad behind Mission Breakout goes to the Avengers E Ticket (Which isn't confirmed yet) that only leaves Hollywoodland as the next possible expansion pad.

The Spider Man shooter is said to be going where the It's Tough To Be a Bug theater was.

And the rumored Spider Man shooter is not the Ant Man shooter that's being built oversees. I assume it'll be a new attraction built from the ground up.

As to why they're not just overlaying Buzz with an Ant Man shooter in Tomorrowland? Even though it's horrifically maintained and aging horribly, Buzz is still a blast, and incredibly popular. Perhaps it's not high up on the list of things that need addressing, especially with Galaxy's Edge, Marvel Land, Runaway Railway all coming in the next few years.

I’m aware that Spider-Man is going into the bugs life theater & is gonna use more of a TSMM ride system but the way Jim worded it was that DCA is getting both Spider-Man and Ant-Man if successful in Hong Kong

Seems like too many shooter attractions, and my biggest complaint is that the spiderman IP deserves a more epic e ticket attraction. The swinging ride system may have been inducing too much nausea, but this could have been because of the cgi/screen set extentions. Any time screens are involved, physics and depth of field are innacurate. What causes nausea is not the amount of movement but the discrepency between what your eye sees and what your equilibrium is feeling. That is why motion simulators (star tours, guardians, everything at Universal) create more motion sickness than big thunder, incredicoaster, or space mountain. Peter pan flies. a ground-based peter pan attraction wouldn't be any more popular than mr toad or pinocchio. it is the sensation of flight and unique ride system that really capture audience's hearts. Having a ground-based spiderman attraction sounds so boring. If the pendulum didn't work out, I would have been more okay with an adaptation of Star Tours' tech (in 2D).

It seems that eastern gateway, mickey, and changing management and budgets have morphed this project several times over the years. Marvel was going to be on the scale of cars land and, given that WDW can't really utilize marvel IP, was going to be the north american and global home for marvel theme park experiences produced by disney. Now, the dca marvel project doesn't appear to be any more significant or well funded than those going to Hong Kong or Paris. I mention Mickey and Minnie's because perhaps at one point, That ride was coming to hollywoodland, which provided DCA with a nice family dark ride while marvel packed in the thrills. With that now allegedly heading to toontown, DCA's menu is short one family dark ride. Spider man is falling victim to the change in direction and it seems like a mistake. I also mentioned budget because, while I don't know what to expect from the avengers e-ticket, which could more than make up for all these other small projects, I've been told that the reason they are going the shooter direction is because the entire global marvel expansion roleout has been given a joint, fixed budget.

This is all disappointing and while I can dream of an iron man or black panther simulator or adaptation of the Flight of Passage ride system, of an immersive cityscape for marvel, or for any other unique ride systems, the guardians overlay and phase 1 consisting of nothing more than a shooter and a very of out place Doctor Strange meet n greet does nothing to inspire confidence. They are playing a dangerous game with this rollout of the boy who cried wolf. Eventually, the public will come to expect nothing but mediocrity at DCA and with regards to marvel attractions. If the public doesn't adore their mediocre phase 1, they might not have the confidence to go through with an expensive phase 2. If they see success with a cheap phase 1, then what incentive do they have to spend big on phase 2?

I haven't listened to the specific episode but I think Jim might be talking out his rear on this. The whole idea was that for Marvel WDI wasn't going to clone attractions. Re-use specific ride systems, sure. But full on clones, no. Also it wouldn't make sense to have two shooters in the same land, and three in the same park. So no I don't see Ant-Man coming to DCA.
