We should all keep in mind that Ant-Man and the Wasp : Nano Battle was specifically designed to please a local asian population, a lot of elements points to this : the appearance of a famous HK actress, the setting in Hong Kong, Ant Man and the Wasp saying words in cantonese in their videos...

I guess we don't have the same expectations as them. There are almost no animatronics in the whole of HKDL and it doesn't seem to bother the guests.
Looking at reactions on social networks, they feel overall happy about the attraction and that's exactly why it was built for.
Think about the number of western people visiting HKDL versus asians, Imagineering did not think about pleasing american theme park fans while building it
Spiderman will be nothing like that

It has nothing to do with the Asian population, actesses, cantonese or any cultural direction the ride took. It has to do with bland scenery, static targets and a finale that looks pretty dull.

Ant-Man and the Wasp is likely a result of a strict budget on a re-skin of Buzz Lightyear. This unfortunately was not supposed to be a headliner to turn the park around and is likely a placeholder to generate a little "fresh" excitement while we await the 2020, 2021 and 2023 major updates. This also serves to better coalesce the area's theme around Marvel. It's disappointing but not unexpected that something would have to draw the short stick as the majority of the budget goes to the re-done Castle, Arendelle expansion and Marvel e-ticket.

I would imagine the Marvel Land in DCA would not see the same issues, especially since Spider-Man appears to be the headliner for the new expansion. It is also the only new "ride" attraction to go along with the show attraction (in Dr. Strange) for the expansion's opening.

“let’s make a slow moving omnimover shooting ride based on an action packed IP with bland scenery and where nothing moves.”

The idea that the ride system should match and reinforce the feel of the IP used is something Tony Baxter and other creatives in the industry have been preaching for decades.

It's a basic rule of themed design, you'd think modern Imagineering would know this.

It’s pretty clear that in many instances they’ve abandoned all of their old principles and are just trying to play catch-up with all of the IP they’ve acquired. So we get overlays like an Antman omnimover shooter, Guardians of the Galaxy elevator drop ride and Incredicoaster.

It's really quite sad to see.

What puzzles me most about the excess overlays we've been getting in DCA- Soarin' Over the World, Guardians of the Galaxy, Pixar Pier- is that they spend millions and millions of dollars to overlay already popular experiences, and didn't add any capacity to a resort that needs it- and will need it more than ever in two months. What's worse, is that from a purely creative standpoint, Guardians of the Galaxy is far more disjointed and lacking than Tower of Terror, and a well executed homage to the seaside pier coaster is far better than a horribly executed superhero roller coaster.

In an interview, Tom Morris said that what they spent on Guardians was enough to build a new attraction.

You're not wrong. I'll be honest, I'm not that great at making decisions on Manwich Mondays. I keep trying to get them to reschedule the meetings!

“It’s for the Chinese” is nonsense. It’s been trotted out repeatedly since 2005 for no other reason but to justify garbage.

It is the reason they decided to build mystic manor instead of a Haunted Mansion / Phantom manor style ride...

But I agree with all of you, my point is that, living in HK, I don't think the local audience will dislike it as much as we do
