The Epcot Manifesto
Well I doubt it will be anything spectacular for a while. There will be quite a few dirt mounds getting moved around, drain pipes and other underground utilities being laid before anything goes vertical.
True, but at least it's actual, honest to goodness, progress! Maybe not uber-floating-rockwork progress, but everything needs a foundation. I'm happy to see word of anything being actually done!

Balfour Beatty is currently doing a lot of work for universal, especially Cabana bay. Interesting that they have their hand in the Disney cookie jar as well. Can't blame them, I love cookies too...

They worked with Disney in the past on the AK Lodge DVC.

There was another permit filed today for the same contractor with an address of 774 #C Werikhe Way, with the description "Africa 700 -Area Development Early Package". A search on that address lists it as the Yak and Yeti.

It seems as though nothing has been filed with the SFWMD yet, so the work related to this permit can't be too exciting. Likely office mobilization, site surveying, utility locating, soil borings, and so on.

All has to start somewhere. Once they start putting in utilities it means they have a pretty solid plan of what they are doing.
Exactly, I certainly cannot find any just reason for bitterness regarding this permit. It's something and something is better than nothing. Sure, it's not an all encompassing permit to build a 5th gate, but it's something.

Balfour Beatty actually was the contractor on a 4 lanes road up here in SC. Lot of swamp and a couple of bridges to deal with on that project. If I remember right there was only 2 bids on that project.

To be clear, I wasn't being bitter. I was simply pointing out facts. Yes, this permit is a sign of things to come, but it's for very limited work. Nothing can happen on this project until it clears the Water Management hearings. When we see the plans pop up there, we can get really excited.

Why on earth would you like to see a 5th gate when WDW has 3 parks that are half day parks??? My idea of fun isn't riding around on buses going park to park. Big waste of time with the bus rides only being part of the wasted time. I'm to the point with Epcot that I don't think I'll go back.
I wasn't implying a 5th gate is warranted, just stating that though the permit is not for some humongous piece of work in its own right, it's a permit none the less.

@Tom sorry, wasn't trying to accentuate the negative and imply you were bitter but did a poor job in accentuating the positive in the permit.

Yep, and unlike the permits that I normally post about here, the ones from the SFWMD will contain plans for how the land will be used.

Balfor Beaty does a lot of large construction projects. I know that they have constructed many schools in Orange County recently. They are a huge company. I'm looking at my hard hat as they were rebuilding our school and I was allowed in to view the progress and post pictures.

hey @Tom and @danlb_2000 didnt Disney Springs early permits look similar to this permit in regards to setting up trailers etc...

No, with Disney Springs we saw the South Florida Water Management District permit first, then when the Notices of Commencement started they were fairly specific, actually calling out trailer construction etc. With that said, the Disney Springs permits are unusual, for big projects there are normally just a couple blanket permits the cover the entire project.
