Here are a few things that may separate this ride from Soarin', if this is indeed 'the thing'.
-themed queue and load area. Imagine rockwork and plants inside. My thought is, as the 'doors' open, we are on the cliff where they tamed the Banshees, getting ready for our first ride.
-The vehicles obviously have a huge range of motion. The fact that they can 'point you down' could make for some thrilling moments. They look to me 'almost' like being on a Kuka arm. Far more dramatic motion base than Soarin's gently rocking vehicles.
-Cameron is intensely developing newer high resolution, high frame rate film formats. If this is projected in something like 8K (higher resolution than IMAX) and 60FPS, I sincerely feel it could fool you into thinking that you are in a real physical airspace. The effect of this would be breathaking and take virtual reality to a new level. If any of you have seen the Hobbit films in HFR, you'd know what I'm talking about, especially on the large landscape scenes. I imagine a refinement/upgrade of that technology.
-Cameron is also experimenting with glasses-free 3D. This would be a great showcase for that technology if they are achieving it. Don't ask me how, but that's the word in the film world.
-On the Vekoma site, they mention the ability to incorporate physical effects like fire, steam, water, etc.. I'd think a fresh air/ozone type system, wind effects, water spray, etc. could add physical enhancements to an already compelling experience.
So, that's a bit of armchair imagineering--but if those things were achieved, I think we'd be jumping straight into Soarin' 3.0 or higher. I am hoping for a stunning experience--and have faith in Cameron's penchant for groundbreaking film technology above all to make this a completely new sort of E-ticket.
We will just have to wait and see.
