AVATAR land construction progress

WDW security asked me to leave but they have a ton of trucks heading into the job site near the main entrance where the busses go in as well as an entrance off Western Way. So far I have counted a dozen or more at both.

I can't get any pics my phone is to low on space I will try to get back to my room and get them off and head back out.

I would say a good 40+ trucks if not more.

I haven't noticed anyone mention this so I'll put it out there. I was on the Orlando Theme Park News website this morning and they have a couple of photos from inside the Pandora site. It is focused on the first vertical beam being placed. Pretty cool actually.

Hence the change in my Avatar photo for this site. :D

The next set of overhead photos for this location should be good ones!

Correct me if I am wrong, but with vertical construction started, things should take shape rather quickly. I am rather excited about this land. Als, from those pics from the other site, that is one hefty steel beam with a lot of concrete going in around it. Must be for something heavy, like a mountain perhaps?

The steel portion of the construction usually goes quickly, but once that is done and they start the details of the rock work, then things will appear to slow down again. If I remember right the rock work on the Be Our Guest Restaurant too over a year to do.

The building for the Soarin' ride is very large, I think it's at least 3 or 4 stories tall.

Since this type of build is new to me I am lacking in comparisons. I am assuming that there will be steel for the floating mountains as well. How large do you think this is in comparison to when Everest was built? Was that something where the steel went up quickly and the rock work ensued, appearing to slow down the process, as well? I am very excited to see the pictures of this project as the largest project I have anxiously followed on this site was the 7DMT.

Yes
Many times the steel will go up and depending on the attraction, a "show building" will start to be enclosed and the rock work will start shortly after. Of course every project is a little different.

To follow on what @IDInstitute said its most likely because the earlier you announce the longer it seems to take to finish (heavy emphasis on "seems"). Even though construction only started this year, it seems like it's going to take 6 years for Avatar because of when it was announced. The situation would probably be much different if the announcement was made when they had all the art ready and the pictures of the models. With Harry Potter I guess they wanted to capitalize ASAP on its success in Orlando by announcing the Hollywood version so early. Come to think of it that's probably why Avatar was announced so early as well, the success of Orlando's WWoHP.
They only announced WWOHP Hollywood because The New York Times leaked it. They had no intention of announcing it when they did.

Looks like much of the first 20' of vertical steel for the Soarin ride is up, no good pics yet, will try when we leave the park this evening.
as our friend @danlb_2000 always says....this should go up fairly quickly now they re are on to vertical construction and then slow down again when details begin to emerge...hope to see big changes by the time I visit in early June
