August Reservations

My family has already made a reservation for the Garden Grill since it's a character meal but my question is do people think it's necessary to make reservations for every full service we plan on going to since it will be August and pretty busy? I think the one other we are thinking about doing is the Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge. What do you think? Thanks

Yes, do them all right away. You'll be surprised how difficult it is to get the ones you want even now.

No seats at all? Would that depend on when you were considering eating or at any time? We go end aug/sept 09 and were planning a sit down meal around 4 - 5pm most days

You're more likely to find something for 4 or 5 PM than for 6 or 7 PM, but I'd still make them now if I were you.

I think it is really up to where you want to go. Some places you can walk right in and some places - you can forget it if you haven't made a ADR.

Or around 9 p.m...... when I was trying to change around some ADR's a month before our May trip, all that was available at several different restaurants was 8:45 p.m. or later. Since we have young kids that time of night doesn't work for us but it might for others.

I would make the reservations now. I had to take a couple of 4:00s at the 180 day mark on some of my reservations for our trip 8/29 - 9/6. Better to be safe than sorry.

I would make them - better safe than sorry. You can always change them around later or while you are on property. When we were there in early May, walkups were unavailable at Plaza and San Angel Inn at dinner. And the crowds aren't even that bad then! So, don't depend on a walkup being available.

Yes, make them now, so that at least you have a starting point if you decide to change some of them later!

Have a great trip!

The days of walking up to a restaurant and getting a table are over. If you do not have ADR's for most places you cannot get in. Some restaurants are booked solid (as in NO open tables) for months straight.
The WCC seems to always have tables (though you may have to wait), we have never made ADR's for this place and we eat there multiple times during our trips.

You could try to book every meal that you plan on going, just so you have them. Then when you are on vacation if you find out you want to go to one of them like a day before your reservation, you could try to see if they could take you as a walk in. If they can work you in as a walk in that day, you can cancel your reservation for the next day. Just an idea.

I have always been able to go as a walk in to the 1900 Park Fare and this place always books up. In January I went to the 1900 Park Fare around 7:30 p.m. as a walk in and they worked me in very easy. It might help since I am only one person though.

A reservation means that you for sure will be able to get a table at the Restaurant. But a lot of places that can book up weeks and months in advance have still taken me in as a walk in. But remember you never known for sure if they can work you in as a walk in.

I say play it safe and plan ahead. Make them now. I am going in August and made my reservations in March... Maybe a tad over kill in planning, but I have all my reservations for the time and locations I wanted exactly.

I committed the cardinal sin of waiting until yesterday to make ADR's for a party of nine for the end of July/beginning of August. The only seats available are for 8:30 to 9:00 PM, which won't work with tired kids. We did manage to get an earlier one at Ohana, but we broke up the party to do it.

What do you think of the Whispering Canyon Cafe? I've been reading kinda mixed reviews, but we wanted to try another sit down, and it's decent priced I guess. Also, how easy/how long is it to get to from the Magic Kingdom? Would we just take a bus?

I have been to the Whispering Canyon Café at the Wilderness Lodge. I also call this place the Screaming Canyon Cafe :p I really enjoy it and had a lot of fun. I went in either December or November of 2006. This time I was with someone else so we were a party of 2. They took us in as a walk in. You still might want to book Whispering Canyon Cafe just to make sure you will get in.

If you are coming from the Magic Kingdom you can take a boat to Wilderness Lodge. I think you can also take a bus there at times. When I was at Magic Kingdom I got on a bus that took me to Wilderness Lodge one time. Epcot,Mgm(Hollywood Studios),Animal Kingdom, downtown disney and Pleasure Island have buses that will take you to the Wilderness Lodge.
