Better to go mid-September with school just starting most people don't want to pull their children out of school

The thing is, the second half of August, many schools throughout the nation are already back in session. Not ALL of them, and September will probably be lesser crowds still, but traditionally (TRADITIONALLY) the latter half of August isn't too bad crowd-wise. Certainly not as bad as the rest of the summer.

First of all, WELCOME!

The summer crowds might still be prominent all throughout August.

Usually, the week after Labor Day through mid November is the best time to visit crowd-wise, but the weather is usually still on the warmer and more humid side.

The local schools in FLA go back around 15 Aug, so the crowds during the week reduce somewhat. I normally take my son the week leading up to Labour Day and crowds are definitely manageable. Getting into September, the rest of the schools are back in session, so it's even better.

That time of year is crazy hot/humid though, so be prepared.

Our family has done both August and September trips in the past. Previous posters are right in that September will likely have slightly smaller crowds (but nothing drastically noticeable). But the weather in August in Orlando, good grief, it's just miserable. The heat and humidity killed us to the point that we've sworn off the three summer months ever again.

I'd agree that September is better with (a chance at least) of nicer weather! I've been many times in September and its been hot....but you can usually count on it not being as bad as August. :)

I sometimes think of going in August for the off-season, but end up scared off by the idea that August tends to be in the middle of hurricane season off the Miami coast, sometimes spilling over into early September.
I've traveled in mid-September with no problems, but everyone else looks at me like I'm Storm-chasing.

September.

We only go in Sept after Labour Day Weekend. School Holidays are over! Crowds are thinner than August.

It's hotter in Sept but we love that! Yes it Hurricane season, but in the 4 times I've been in Sept it's never been a issue.

I will say this sept isn't any less crowded anymore. There is no off season anymore. I say go anytime that you feel like it cause the crowds will still be there. :)
I kinda agree with you here, when we went in Sept 2008 WDW was empty!!!!! We loved it!!! Then in 2010 it was a bit busier! THEN in 2012 & 2013 the parks are busy! I blame Free Dining! BUT it think August is busier!

We have done both as we are from the DC area and our kids don't back to school until after Labor Day. I would have to say it would depend on what you want do and see while you are there. Mid September you could get to see the MK all done up for Halloween and even go to a MNSSHP.
