August Crowds

We will be going to The World Aug. 13 - Aug. 17 and staying at Ft. Wilderness in our MH. Were from Florida so I'm not really worried about the heat. I am wondering what the crowds are like. I am guessing that things will be thinning out as school starts soon after that. Anyone have any insight on that time period?

We are going at exactly the same time. I went on many public school websites and all of them that I found were starting the week of Aug. 23rd. This includes Orange County (Orlando), and Tampa schools. I am also hoping people don't want to vacation right up to the start of school!

We've visited at both the beginning of the month and at our usual time during the third to fourth week of the month. The crowds do thin considerably during the third week, as many southern state schools go back into session. The wait times for attractions seemed much shorter, but you should still follow the Unofficial Guide touring plans to keep ahead of what crowds there are. The load on the bus system, food courts, etc was also reduced, making for what we feel is a more pleasant vacation.

So, the second half of August is not crowd-free, but still much better than the peak summer months.

Are you locked in to those dates? One week later should be a noticeable difference.

We went August 1 - 22 back in 06. The first and third weeks were "relatively" quiet (well, quieter than we expected for the time of year). The middle week was extremely busy :shrug:. The later that you can leave it, the better

We were there the same time last year and doing a bounce back trip this August 14-22!! Crowds were not to bad at all, but we are used to Spring Break and Holidays.

As the others have said, the later the better. The last week of august provides much smaller crowds due to schools starting in FL and elsewhere in the south.

I was there during that time last year,.. the crowds weren't bad at all (I have some pictures of me or my fiance and no one else is in the entire background at world showcase) and it may rain a good amount, but this both cuts down on crowds and the heat,

Going the 14th through the 25th - guessing from what everyone has said on this August thread and others, that the crowds will slow around the 20th...so 5 good days makes this girl quite pleased!!!

Now as long as my chubby self does not melt in the heat....

Yeah we're pretty much locked into those days. We both start classes a week or so after and don't want to be on vacation the day before the semester classes, and we don't want to go to early and fight the crowds.

As long as its not completely packed I will be ok. We have AP so I'm not worried about missing anything, just don't want to be overwhelmed with crowds.
