Arrive before rope drop. Do as much as early as possible.

Drink lots of water and take a break early afternoon. Resort pool or a nap. Don't over-do it.

Crowds are heavy until the local kiddies head back to school mid-August.

I'll be there around the same time
I'm going to be taking it very slow this trip, not running around as I usually do. I'll only be there for 4 days so I won't have time to acclimate to being outside in the heat.
The only thing I really have planned is a Keys to the Kingdom tour, other than that I'm taking it slow with frequent breaks, and taking full advantage of the evening extra magic hours to stay out of the sun.
And remember to keep hydrated!

This will be my third time going in the beginning of August... I agree with arriving early and napping or swimming in the early afternoon... take advantage of evening hours. Drink lots of water and wear sunscreen.

I never really had problems with crowds while there, but then again I'm usually not there in the middle of the day.

I'll be at WDW starting the second week of August; I imagine it's going to be scorching hot as everyone I've talked to has said the heat has been unbearable in Florida this year. In the past we have taken advantage of Extra Magic Hours to avoid peak crowds and midday temperatures. It's totally worth getting up early at park opening to get a head start on the crowds.

We'll be at the Pop from Aug. 16-21st. I wanted to take advantage of the value season prices, and I thought the local schools would be back in session by then, but I guess they go back the following week! We will do the early morning/late afternoon/evenings in the parks and spend the hottest/busiest part of the day at the resort pool or taking a nap. I am also getting the dining plan and will use sit-down dining time to take an air conditioned break instead of grabbing fast food on the run.

I am planning on a August 13 - 18 2010 trip.

This would allow me to see the end of Summer Nightastic and the begining of the regular offerings again like the return of Spectro Magic and Wishes.

Never done this before. I have been to WDW in May, Sept., Oct., and Dec. Anyone on the boards here at WDW Magic going to be there at the same time?

Looks like I could run into cslafferty & Clark Griswold. Maybe even lilclerk & disney4life2008. If I make it hope to at least say hello to you all.

Not all that bad!

Went August 7 - 14 last year with a 1.5 and 3.5 year old. I have been to Floriday in August/September about 10 times to play softball tournaments. The heat was bad for that, but last summer, it was unlike anything that I have ever felt. I mean sweat pouring off me at 8am in the morning in the shade.

To combat the heat, here is a foolproof plan. Take advantage of early morning hours and retreat to the pool/hotel after about 3 hours in the park. Utilize fastpass as follows. Get a fastpass, ride some other rides, and then get fastpasses for another ride at the earliest moment (its on the bottom of your fastpass ticket), and before using your first fastpasses. Repeat the process over and over again. After 3-4 hours of rest in the pool/hotel, come back to the parks by about 4pm. This time, pick a park that has neither an early or late extra magic. That's when the early risers start crapping out for the day. In addition, most (but not all) of the afternoon thunderstorms are done by 4pm.

As for the crowds, I have seen better and I have seen worse. This year, I don't have a clue on what to expect. Last year was buy 4 get 3 free, this year free dining. I have had this vacation booked long before free dining. Just out of curiosity, I went to disneyworld.com and tried to see if I could get a reservation from Aug 16-23 (when we'll be there) and most of the values were showing very limited availability. Some, like POP and All-star Movies showed no availability.

Oh yeah, and going back, this time with a 2.5 and 4.5 year old. Can't wait! And for those of you out there that say, he's nuts, or their too young. For my money (and discounted money at that), I am willing to pay to see the smiles of two youngsters who find grown men inside costumes as real life things. In addition, they are extremely well-behaved, and my 4.5 year old son still has vivid memories of his trip last year. What's better than that.

Oh, and by the way, I am nuts!

We'll be going August 9-21.

We were there last August for four days the 26-30. I'll admit it, I was hot. Especially that first day we were there. We just weren't used to the heat. We were dripping. We found ourselves going through gift shops just to get cooled off a bit. But by the end of our little trip, it really wasn't that bad. We didn't think the crowds were too horrible either.

We'll be there Aug 2 thru 12, but we're getting in training for the heat now...it was 99 today, supposed to be high 90s and into the 100s a few days this week.
Take things slow, light meals, lots of water, lots of swim time. Some type of hat as well. That's our plan. If we miss something this trip we'll catch it next time. Rather do that than be miserable.

We went from the 3rd-4th week of August two years ago, and are going from the 2nd-3rd week this year (12th-19th). Since there was a tropical storm for the first half last year, the heat wasn't a problem, and even when the storm was gone the heat wasn't that bad. The crowds were very low, too.
