Well, since I am unsure about this contest I will watch this time around and see what the veteran's come up with... Although ToT is a great theme to work with, I will enter the next one. :)

Third times the charm!

Hopefully this one looks better.

This is now my entry unless there is something that needs to be changed again. LOL.

See, that is why I'm staying out of this one

To me, that looks like a picture. :hammer: I have no clue what we are actually doing in this contest... are we trying to make attraction posters like you find at the entrance of Magic Kingdom? Sorta like an attraction advertisement, or is it more like a souvenir poster like you may find in the Gift Shops?

I think the idea is supposed to be like the attractions posters at the Walt Disney Rail Road Station at Magic Kingdom.

I also have a hard time trying out how to make a photo not look like a photo (as you saw with my first 2 entries).

Thanks again Zac and MKT for you help! I am finally happy with an entry!

Yes, IMO it still looks like a picture. While i think a sizable percentage will be working off of a base image or something, i would really hate it if everyone's looked the same. Just my two cents, this is up for the official judge to decide.

However i know i will be doing something similar but i intend to work on it up until the deadline and playing with it in photoshop and everything else i can that would help.

I highly suggest to all those who want to win this contest to sit back and take your time and make it right. Dont rush it. So you two who have entered, you can still revise your entry.

Yes, it is intended to be an attraction poster to advertise the attraction... like at the entrace to the MK or thats what its said in the previous poster contests.

Also, ACE, again, very nice looking entry. Good job on the BG, very artistic and nice. The tower needs to be altered though. As far as I can tell, it's just been changed to Black and white, and darkened a bit. The point is that it still looks like a photograph, and when you look at it, you shouldn't be able to tell that it is one.:)

The pic is from a wallpaper I found. Then I copied it and made it b&w. I then cut out everything that I wanted to stay color and pasted that b&w mask onto the color pic. I then stretched the pic to give it the tall effect and then added the lettering and stretched that.

I personally don't think my poster looks like a photo at all. If you think it doesn't meet your criteria then take it out of the contest.
How about I post the various stages of my work?

I'm still fuzzy on why a B&W is a photo, but a Negative image is not.

No biggie though. This contest is interesting.

I didn't just use a negative filter on that. I also used a few others to get that look. One of them being a color fill to improve the origional images colors.

ACE, I never doubted that you did a lot to the photo. But you haen't altered the detail of the picture itself.

Unfortunately, it doesn't matter how much time anyone spends, or how many filters they use. If it's still looks like you just took a picture and changed the color, I can't let it in.

Look everyone is complicating this more than need be.

Blizz's is now acceptable. OF COURSE IT"S A PHOTO. That's not even debatable. The negative effect, however gives it a non photo look. It's about as close as you can get to not being eligible.

Haven't we all seen the attraction posters underneath the Railroad Station? NONE of these contain ANY photographs. That SHOULD be the rule, but it isn't because only a select few would enter. I'm trying to let more people enter while still holding as close as we can to an attraction poster.

Go look at the previous contests. I didn;t use any filters in ANY of the posters I submitted, and they weren't extremely difficult either. ALL I DID WAS TRACE RIGHT OVER THE TOP OF A REAL PHOTOGRAPH IN PHOTOSHOP.

Take a look at the Official DIsney Haunted Mansion Poster. How simple is that? It's so simple that it wouldn't even win in one of these contests. These aren't hard, they just take a bit more time, which is why I've allowed more than a week for entries.

Anyone can slap a few photos together and call it a poster, I'm just looking for some effort in making it look like artwork, raher than a picture.

That's all. It isn't that hard. We've had succesful contests in the past. Just take the time to go look at them and you won't have questions.

This is the first one of these things that I have ever entered. I hope you all like it.:animwink:

Bear in mind, this is the reason why some of us have been working on it for the past 3 days and continue to dilligently work on it. The deadline is 12 days away, you have plenty of time to work with it.

Please try NOT to take offense when Zac tells you he thinks it looks too much like a photo. Its not aimed as a personal criticism or attack, rather its trying to help you as so you can back and be a bit more creative. So far on a completely professional level i agree with everything he's said, despite that it might make me have to go back to the drawing board and come up with something more.

Just my opinion here.... yyou might want to go back and check the previous poster contest threads to get a better feel if youre still curious.

Zac,
Here is the wallpaper I started with. I did reduce the size to 700 x 525 to post it here. This is not a photo. I also don't have photoshop. I had to do everything the hard way. Especially cutting out the b&w mask using my zoom and mouse. That took awhile. If you still don't want to keep my entry then take it out. No hard feelings. I'm not mad just disappointed.

 ACE

Edit: I did go back and look at previous poster contest and saw tons of pictures on posters that looked like pictures.

Edit #2: Took out pic to save loading time and clear out clutter.

Here's the b&w mask I made the hard way. I also reduced this to 700 x 525 for posting here.

Zac... I ran the Brushed Stroked filter on the whole thing... I would've shown it to you on AIM, but you were signed off. If it looks too much like a photo, let me know
