Attendance records to be smashed this Easter?

Not old, just vintage.
This thread makes me depressed... I, will be one of the many millions of people in WDW from 3/29-4/3. As a Disney veteran i was well aware of what i was getting myself into while booking this vacation(unfortunately it is the only time i can get away from work this year)...but i never expected to hear anything quite like this...record breaking attendance??? Good for the Disney bank account, VERY bad for me  I can only hope that since the hours have been extended so much that we'll be able to hit up the p.m. EMH's and not be trampled too badly for any ride that is even remotely popular. Or i can try to find as many people as possible with trips planned for those days and start paying them off to not actually go on their vacations. :p

Makes me really glad that 1) our Spring Break is this week--we get nothing off for Easter, and 2) Holy Week is my busy time at work.

But have fun everyone.

Remember to pack your patience and good humor.

And above all remember that
You're in Disney World and I'm not

Just remember to sleep in and play late! This worked out great for my family during the x-mas season! We walked onto many rides after 10:00 pm.

Good luck and have fun!

1995 - Carribean Beach
2000 - Fort Wilderness Cabin

All property hotels have been showing as booked for a few weeks now. Unfortunately I'll be down from the 29th to the 1st....have to use my savey and make the best of it...

mkt

yeah... I'll be avoiding the parks like the plague at that time

...but Rob, does that mean I won't be able to buy you a drink?

I'm leaving Friday and will be down there until the 25th...quite frankly I cannot wait. I went at the end of June for 2 weeks last year and we were spoiled and amazed with the lack of long lines so this should be interesting. I just hope it's not unbearable and the weather is nice. Either way it'll obviousl be amazing but obviously this is gonna have an impact. I wanna be able to see any of the new stuff I can as well as ride Splash and ToT a minimum of 5 times each! Wish me luck.

How many hours do you end up working during a week like this?
I'm lucky. In buses, we're limited in our hours by DOT regulations. No more than 70 hours in any 8 day period, no more than 12 hours drive time per shift, and a minimum of 8 hours rest period between shifts.

A 12 hour shift going into the early morning hours is not good and probably no the safest. I can't imagine how your eyes feel about 2:00 AM. It has to be pretty hard to be hospitable to a cranky guest that time of the morning!

What kind of breaks do they give you??

Looking at the revised hours for the Easter period, it looks to me as though Disney are expecting to set the attendance records they had planned for.

The final week of March sees some days with the MK opening at 7am for resort guests, and closing at 3am. (with Extra Magic Hours).

AK is also having a strong showing, with hours 8am to 8pm (excluding EMHours).

It's going to be a busy time, but things are looking up for WDW attendance.

During my Feb trip this year, I noticed more people at the parks than last year around the same time....I'm talking a major difference...I don't know if it was because this year the weather was better or what not...but the parks were very busy..

So yes...I agree things are indeed looking up...

It works out so that we're never on a bus much longer than 3hrs at a time, with breaks ranging from 30-90 minutes on average. Toss on another hour break at the start of my shift, and at the end of my shift.

I'm a night owl anyways... but still don't like the idea of working that late.

When i took the MK tour someone asked the tour guide what was the longest a person has ever worked in a week. He said 120 hours YIKES!

That's absolutely true, but that is only because he kept asking for hours, in fact, it may have been the person giving the tour.

:) Wow - I never knew Easter season was so bad!! I'm going from May 24th to June 1st - Memorial Day weekend is stuck in there somewhere. You guys have any clue what the crowds will be like at that time? I'm hoping just regular, semi-busy - not packed like Easter or Christmas. Give me some hope people :~)

Wow!! MK open for 20 Hours straight

Have they ever closed down all four parks at one time because of meeting maximum crowd limits??

I was there during Easter Week 2002 and they closed all 4 parks. We were in MK at the time, but my brother and his friend ended up going to Epcot instead of staying in MK and radioed my parents from the Monorail that they were stuck on halfway to MK. When they finally got to the gate of MK, they wouldn't let them in and my parents had to beg the CMs to let them in because there was no way my parents were going to be in MK without the 2 15 year old boys. But yet they let them go to Epcot on their own. Go figure.

Its not that bad... you just have to plan a little and you can avoid most of the worst problems. Xmas 03 was a madhouse and The MK was closed at some time.... so we started the day at Epcot and went over to the Mk at 7pm or so for dinner. After wishes the park was not empty.. but everything was a walk on. I was on more rides in 2 hours then most people got to do all day.
Be smart... come back late if the park is open late.

yeah we are going March 28th-April 2nd... Im kind of dissapointed about the crowd level too!! :( ... I don't mind a bit of crowds but I get really clustrophobic when your walking down maistreet and people are practically stepping on your feet.... the worst place is that area between Splash and Big Thunder... It gets SO crowded there..I always freak out a little. Im sure we will sleep in a bit and do all of the parks on thier extra magic hour nights and park hop allot too. Just don't wanna waiste all that ticket money!!!
