I think people should be careful not to generalise here though.

A few of the comments on this thread would be tantamount to me saying 'everyone over the age of 30 have receding hairlines and incontinence problems.'

In my experience, it tends to be the troublesome minority that gets their voices heard, whilst the hard working, courteous majority is not so easily noticed.

Stop torturing me due to this; I have had bad spelling since I was young. I have a block on it. Takes a while to remember correct spelling, however I have had problems, The 504 Program is the same as ESE. I have a medical problem in my wrist when holding certain objects in a way. When I type it wont hurt till a long time, usually about 45 min. Writing it hurts around 5 min including break.

My English teacher was supposed to accommodate my problem by giving me a copy of the notes as required by LAW!

She wouldn't and no one could get her to. I had to try to read my handwriting, which is bad after 15 min. This is speed writing too due to she would give 5 pages of full notes. Why yell at me for my problem, I know it is my responsibility. I am even taking summer School! I am taking American Government online and have had to wake up early. I hate waking up before 8.

I want you to understand what I am doing is a dumb joke. Why else would I do this? There is no way I could protest the entire school system, it was a dumb joke online.

Please get off of my back....

You are only truly disabled if you allow yourself to be. Did I mention I have major ADHD and I suffer from dyslexia? That didn't stop me from graduating high school with an A.A. I just had to work harder.

I know what the 504 plan laws require; I do it all the time. However, a) you were complaining about the content of the class, which has nothing to do with your needing a 504 accommodation, b) you were demonstrating through your post that you maybe needed to pay more attention because you clearly are lacking the requisite skills for a high school education, and c) I would be damned before I let someone else interrupt my education and keep me from where I wanted to go--if the teacher didn't give me the notes, I would have gotten them from a classmate and photocopied them; I would have been at that teacher's door before she arrived every morning and offered to go photocopy the notes myself if I had to; I would have learned to type with one hand; I would have recorded the classes and transcribed the notes onto the computer at home later.... I would NOT have let someone else keep me from getting my education.

I have had students with more severe problems than needing a 504 accommodation, and the ones who wanted the education badly enough didn't let ANYTHING get in their way. I had a student who had suffered a traumatic brain injury and could no longer interpret print, but she recorded the classes and listened to the tape over and over until she learned the material. We provided the texts on tape for her--she took it further and taped everything herself and made sure she understood.

Perhaps you don't realize that education is not a joke; some of us see no humor in someone who can't write a clear sentence joking about not needing an education.

And they want to wake up early? The nerve of them! They should have considered your feelings and devised the course offerings around your sleep, computer, and eating times to better serve you. Those ________________!

What Rob and mighty duck says is true! any disability can be overcome! I have a friend who has no arms and he types with a stick in his mouth and he types better then me! HE has a touch screen keypad that doesn`t need shift to capitalize.

It is hard describing my school life; I have barely any friends at school. Most hate band kids. I can never get the notes I desperately needed, I worked my *** off just to get a C for one quarter. I only had a problem with English. Not any of my other classes. Mt other classes would have the RCI (the carbon) paper for me; My English class would never use it at all. I had it and could not get my notes; I asked for a copy and never could get any. They said I was lazy I was a dork. I am not lazy; I had to study for 2 honors finals for a regular class.

I am tired of hearing these points, I know their are people who have it worse then I, but I only had a problem due to my medical problem in my wrist. (Lameness terms loose wrist) I could not read most of my notes, I never let my disability get me but English I was having the worst time ever. My sister has a problem with reading and she has worked hard to get through High school and now working on College.

I know this, I only am tired of getting accused, I have had this problem since elementary school and no one understood my problem then and barely understands now.

Just out of curiosity, you said most kids hate band kids. What instrument do you play with your wrist problem?

As far as the other things are concerned.....

~If you have carbon paper, why not ask a classmate if they
would allow you to have a copy of their notes using it?
~Have you tried tape recording class? You could transcribe the
notes later at your pace.

The point everyone was trying to make was how ironic you wish to protest school when you clearly need to further your education.

-I play all percussion, Drums, Pit. I can hold the thick sticks sort of well, but when I had to play the marimbas my wrists would hurt after about 5 moments.

No problems with timpani or bass or snare.

-I had asked every kid in that class to use the paper.

-No unauthorized electronics allowed, including Tape recorders in public high schools.

Well, the key is "unauthorized." Ask for it to be put in your 504 plan, Figment. It is a valid accommodation. I teach in a public high school--they are certainly allowed if it is for 504 or IEP accommodations.
