I've been to WDW six times, yet have never been on or even considered Astro Orbiter. I don't really here anyone ever talk aboutit. How is the ride? Is it a must see on my next trip?

The line is generally disproportionately long, and the ride up and down in the elevators can be uncomfortable, especially if one breaks down and they try to shove everyone on one.
The rise itself is a bit faster than other spinners, and offers a great view, but the seating is ridiculous. My girlfriend and I (I am tall, but not that big around, and she's just small) can not comfortably fit in one rocket, where you sit straddling one small, shared bench with only one back and one shared seatbelt.

Mirroring what other have already said, the queue is hot and on a summer day quite miserable. The elevator ride is uncomfortable and can be a real olfactory insult if you know what I mean. The ride itself is fun. It is basically Dumbo but is physically faster, FEELS much faster, and affords some unique and beautiful perspectives to Future World.

It's like Dumbo, but higher up, faster and rockets are slightly tilted to the side giving a much more thrilling ride. Also after a few minutes the centrifugal forces really kick in, making it feel like you are about to get thrown out the side of the rocket which is either fun and thrilling or painful and scary, however you see it lol

This. Also, it was uncomfortable for me & my 8 year old DD to be in the same rocket. It was a tiny space, IMO. I won't do it again unless DD is very adamant about it!

Thanks for all the responses! We'lldefinitely check it out on our next visit! I think it's one of the few rides we've never done.

Painful and scary. Always painful and scary.

All I can say is that this is the only ride at WDW that makes me want to hurl like Garth. Something about the speed I guess. Rocketman I am not.

On our visit last fall, we were pleasantly surprised by the speed of the touchdown portion of re-entry. I don't remember it being that quick on previous trips (ok, I hadn't been on the ride in about 13 years because the lines were too long for it on subsequent visits). Has it always been that quick?

We love it! It has more thrill than one would think. Going up and down gives you the feeling that you might fall out. Great views, especially at night. It is definitely something you try at least once.
I cannot stand heights but took my nephew on it years ago and I remember that feeling of falling out, lol.

Simply put, it's awful. The ride is too small and going up and down doesn't exactly inspire confidence (the feeling of falling out is very real). I have no issue not going on it. But to each their own.

Take your camera along, you can get some interesting pics from above. The ride cars are smallish. Think Aladdins magic Carpet ride but themed as rocket ships. It stays in Tomorrowland because it "looks futuristic". o_Oo_O

It's worth doing if you go at night. The views are better and it's not as murderously hot.
Also, make sure that everyone who is old enough to ride by themselves tell the cast member down below that you're single riders to ensure that you get your own rockets. You can get some really good pictures if you can hold on to your camera and turn around.

Here's a question, though- are there supposed to be two cast members on the top story or just one?
Every time I've ridden at night there's only been one cast member up there and they really have to scramble to handle both loading/running the ride vehicles and grouping the three sets of people in the cattle chutes and elevators. It really seems like the whole load/unload operation would be twice as fast if there were two people working up top and a third down below.
