Wherefore the argument then, Aristotle? You've spent the entirety of the thread debating a person who made the oh-so-controversial argument that parents should watch their kids around pools. If you agree, then the debate stops there..

Oh, I see now...you haven't actually read all of my posts, especially the first one.

Making references to cultures where cars aren't a necessity is completely irrelevant, since ours isn't one of them. Unless someone agrees with you on that point so strongly that they pack up and move to India, then the point has no application here beyond a theoretical one.

You mean the point you want to make...

Once again, you haven't read all of my posts in their entirety or you would know what my point is as I have stated it a few times. No big deal...:D

Parents always think it can't and won't happen to my child! In this day and age you can't leave your guard down!!

My sympathies to the little girl and her family and to the sleazeball who did it, you'll become very popular in prison.

How sad for this little girl.

Luckily that boy from NH was watching and did something about it because it could have been a lot worse.

My kids (9 & 12) saw this on the news, and we used it as a teaching point, that they need to watch out for this and that is one of the reasons we tell them not to go off on their own. They still want to and we tell them they tell us where they are going (because they feel older and want to be independant), and then my wife and I usually watch out for them anyways.

Unfortunately in todays society you always not matter where you are have to be vigilant about what's going on with your kids.

I have been sitting here reading just about every post and it just amazes me on the way people can just automatically jump to a conclusion and judge these parent(s). Since we only know what we read or see in the news, how do we know the little girl was unsupervised? Just because the parent wasn't there. They could have asked an older sibling, a cousin, friend, some other family member to watch her. Shouldn't you reserve blame and your judgements until all the facts are in? I have a DD who is 10 and it's scary just letting her walk out the front door. When she was about 4, we were in Wal Mart I turned to grab the cart and turned back, so it was about 3 seconds. She was gone. She had slithered under a clothes rack. I'm not sure but I think time stopped along with my heart. I was just getting ready to slip into panic mode when I heard her. With tears streaming down my face, I brought her our from under it and she said "no crying momma". :)

We just don't know what happen. And I'm willing to bet that her family has enough self hatred without anyone else adding to it.

Thank goodness for that brave little boy who probably saved her life. No telling what that man might have done to her.

We're not talking about a hypothetical situation here...or offering opinions, based on gossip. As stated, the young child was not being supervised in the pool area and some psycho took advantage of said situation.

Simply, if a parent would've been present and watching their kids the outcome would've been different.

There's no judging involved...it's only logic.

Funny, but no one has been able to provide anything beyond the initial statement. No details. As I said, what was the definition of unsupervised? Obviously the definition of "bystanders" watched was an 11 year old boy saw it happen and got help. I am not saying the parent's are blameless, just that there is a LOT of judging happening based on very minimal details. Before I apply logic I need some additional information.

Look at the questions he was asking the girls around the pool...

'Where are your Mom and Dad?' and 'Do you know where you are, and do they know that you're going on the slide? Can you point them... out to me?'

Obviously he wasn't targeting just anyone. He was specifically looking for children who weren't being supervised.

Reading the article, I think there are some pretty obvious inconsistencies in the story.

First of all, I guess there was more than one set of parents not watching their kids, because it wasn’t the parents of the 11 year old boy that noticed the man asking questions, it was the 11 year old boy himself.

The boy told his dad, and they watched Bishop.
Seems that even with somebody watching him, he was able to perpetrate some of his intentions.

A half hour later, police say David caught Bishop molesting another girl near the hotel pool.
So, he actually molested two children, because that is what it says.

Way too many questions to know exactly what happend, I think.

I watched the interview with the 11 year old and his dad. Their little girl was approached and spoken to by this creep, but not molested. When it was noticed he was talking to her I beieve the boy brought her closer to their parents. Then the guy moved on to find another target.

Um, so, what does everyone think about that wand at Epcot?:lookaroun

Parents should in no way be allowd to bring there children close to that wand looking thing in Epcot. I mean what if it rains that day and lighting hits it with a strong enough gust of wind and "!PLOP!" the sign falls and these poor helpless unsupervised children next to the flowers get crushed, while there parents where not looking renting strollers or buying thoses dam passport's for kidcot!!!!! Please people keep your children away from the wand!:D

If I'm not mistaken I read in the thread about him having a loaded handgun in the car...meaning that this was gonna be a do or die type situation if he was caught close enough to his vehicle. I also contrary to most people I think that this should be hyped up in the media for 2 reasons, to make people aware that this can happen to you! and to make other pediphilies that are considering going onto property to do the same that they're is alot of survelince on the property to kinda help scare them off a little.

Laura nice find. I saw the story on fox and could not find anything on their site. Seems to me he was at a play area where parents tend to watch their kids from a distance .
There seem to be several inconsistencies. Fox said the guy was staying at the Swan & Dolphin.

That doesn't surprise me at all. A lot of parents probably trust the ligeguards to "babysit" their children. When I'm at work parents sometimes ask me to watch their children. They think Cast Members are there to be the parents.

Seems that even with somebody watching him, he was able to perpetrate some of his intentions. The dad had his own family to look out for too. And if it was crowded I'm sure it's pretty easy to lose track of somebody there. It's a pretty big pool area.

So, he actually molested two children, because that is what it says. No, it this case it was just poor choice of words. The other girl mentioned in the article is the girl we've been discussing all along. It was "another girl" other than the boy's sister.

Way too many questions to know exactly what happend, I think.

Appropriate, wouldn't you say, since upwards of 90% of this thread is people talking past each other? :animwink:

The wand had nothing to do with this situation. It was at Epcot the entire time and from what I have heard there are hundreds of witnesses that saw it there.

Oh my gosh, nevermind just CMs in WDW. I used to work in a department store, and women would ask us to watch their kids while they went to try things on. And not just older kids, I mean all kids, from 8-10 year olds to little tiny infants in car seats.

Uh uh, I am not here to watch your baby for you while you try on that fistful of clothes. It shocked me how many people asked that. It also shocked me how many people would tell their toddlers to go play with the toys in the kids section while they went shopping. Unbelievable, I would never do that.
