And Im sure, you shot her a smile and under your breathe said *you so wish you were me* LOL, but be the better person, bring her a token from Disney, at the very least it will bring a smile to her face. (Then watch her ask you for your suggestions to plan a Disney vacation) Karma my dear wdwmagic sista, karma
Thank you for understanding. So many people are badgering me about taking off, but it's a special occasion (married 15 years). I will bring her something.:) I also bring my students something as well.:) She's not that into Disney, but she goes on cruises and such. I did smile at her, but then went to my room & cried.:( She has that effect on people.

Those 55 days are sick leave aren't they?
Personal/Sick are combined. We get 10 days a year to take. Each year I may take 2 days emergency leave for my kids being sick or myself. The county gives attendance incentives ( up to $1,000) for not missing days. I get that each year in my paycheck in July. I won't be getting it this year of course.;)

Teachers where I live are not allowed to take off during the school year for any reason - maybe a day for a wedding or funeral but certainly not a week. And even to take the one day they get a lot of flack for it.
That makes no sense.:( There are emergencies and flex days and leave without cause days for a reason. Teachers should not be held to any other "hidden rule" like not being "allowed" to take off during the school year. What other job holds that kind of "leave rule" over your head? It's preposterous!:( Some people/teachers may take advantage of their leave, but I don't. I don't believe I should suffer just because of those folks who take off at the drop of a hat. This is a special circumstance. Each person's life is different. I would think that should be against the law. What about the teacher's union? Teachers already feel under appreciated. This makes it worse. IMHO.:(

I'm a retired teacher married to a retired teacher, and I've never heard of a school department allowing a teacher to take a week's paid leave like that after a 2 month break. These are the kinds of things that give our profession a bad name, and have resulted in some pretty ugly battles here lately. Frankly on my 15th anniversary, my husband and I went out to dinner - locally, and we did our disney trips during school vacation times like everyone else we knew.

We were allowed 2 "personal" days per year (non-cumulative) but had to give a valid reason for taking them (attending a graduation, funeral for a non-family member, etc.), and they could not be taken consecutively except under special circumstances.
I think that just causes people to tell lies.:( Leave is leave IMHO. Why do they even have Leave without cause? I am baffled.

This is not a special circumstance - it's your wedding anniversary - big deal!

Wow- now that's harsh.:( It is a big deal, especially nowadays when there are so many divorces.:(
BTW Monty- sorry for taking over your thread. I really do hope you have a good trip.:D
WV does have strict rules for taking kids out of school, but you are allowed to complete an "educational plan" for them and include a presentation w/ a writing journal upon return. The missed work is made up 3 days after returning. Why then do they have these rules in place? What better places to have an educational experience than EPCOT and ANIMAL KINGDOM? The topics covered at these parks are often used for "home schoolers". Many of the subjects curriculum and standards are covered at these parks.:)

Yes, I've seen a few of those......

Anyway, my point is that you shouldn't be surprised that your supervisor gave you a hard time - I'm sure when you mentioned last year that you'd be celebrating all of 15 years being married, she didn't think that meant a week off, I'm assuming with full pay.

Have a wonderful trip.

Well, times are different now. I don't think this gives the teaching profession a bad name at all. Normally my husband gets me flowers and we go out to dinner, but he had vacation leave to take, and that is the time we decided to take it. Whether it be right or wrong, that's just the way it is.:( Normally, we do Disney vacations Easter, Summer, Thanksgiving, or Christmas just like "everyone else". Unfortunately, when you "allow" one person to take a week off for a cruise during the school year, then there should be no question as to when/how/who/why you go a certain place. BTW, we're also taking care of personal family business while in Florida ( my father-in-law is very ill). What about if you have to take time off to care for an aging parent? I am just so upset that anyone would think this "leave" thing would give a bad name to the teaching profession.

Thanks. She did know. Heck- I'd take leave without pay if I had to.:(

Boss sent me home a "little" early. He's very good to me, partly because he's scared I'd leave! :D I've been in the business for over 35 years and I'm the "go-to" guy in our office for everything. If I can't tell them how to do it or who to talk to, I find out faster than anyone else can and let them know. I first met my current boss about 23 years ago when I was working for his mother, he was 11 and very impressed by my military uniform! I think he might be a little intimidated...

I have a job that can and often does cancel leave because of "Operational Requirements", if they do, I claim any unrecoverable deposits from my cancelled trip and go to work. Other than that, I can take my leave whenever I choose. I get 30 days per year Vacation Leave and 15 days Sick Leave, both can be accumulated.

I'm packed all but the toiletries I'll need in the morning. I'll be checking in occasionally for the next ten days, but probably not posting much.

See you all on the other side! I'm going to Disney World!

Oh my gosh thats terrible!! I wouldnt bring her back anything!!! It doesn't sound like someone like that would appreciate it anyway. Save your money or make a donation to a charity for the amount you would have spent on that witch!
