Ariel's Undersea Adventure to be a submarine ride?

LOL. Off topic, but I didn't expect this to get, like... two pages worth of comments.
Still, it's giving me something to read while I wait for Christmas. Nothing's happening until then. :[

In brief, the budget for Imagination was taken and added to The Seas (thank god) to bring us what Seas with Nemo ended up as.

It could have been far worse. For both pavilions.

See, I think, even under budget, the attraction works pretty dang well for the limited space and not having to add new building space.

Seriously, the entrance is outstanding in theme. The decent under water, set pieces.

The ride itself- for lack of avaliable space, does a bang up job of fitting as many elements as it does. It was never meant to be the second coming of DLs IASM as far as dark rides are concerned. Since the ride is only 1/4 of what the pavilion offers -- it is a HUGE move to make as much as possible with as little as possible. The weren't out to build a Sorin', an seriously, would a 14 minute dark ride really be that welcome after they kicked 3 out of that park already?

For what it is meant to be -- A+!

It was different than anything they had on site so far, not another spinner ride. What more would you want than what was produced? Really? Cardboard cutouts?

The satisfaction level of too many people on this board is so out of whack with reality...

Plus I remember many of the Imagineers while working on the ride always concidered the Nemo Ride as a replacement of Living Seas Preshow.

The aquarium as far as they are concerned is the main attraction of the pavilion.

Well I for one enjoyed 20,000 leagues and other Disney parks have a similiar attraction. It would be a lot better than what they did with a playground and meet the characters in that area. Now that's not pretty and takes up a lot of space. Besides that I'm not spending a lot of money to go to Disney to watch my grandchildren play in a playground when I can take them where I live to see that for free. I want attraction entertainment for what I pay. Just like the coloring in Animal Kingdom. I can watch them color at my kitchen table. The imagineers need to get with it. They are really lacking.

... there is an interesting note that since Ariel's hair is supposed to behave like it's underwater, her hair will be animatronic, too. As in, her hair will be animated.

That is awesome! I wonder if there is any chance of a preview soon with DCA version opening this spring...

There is a neat preview toward the end of this LONG video of some other working animatronics for TLM: http://www.wdwntube.com/2010/06/13/whats-next-for-disneyland-resort-2010/. Really cool stuff on here, but that performance at the end by Jodi Benson, yikes! :ROFLOL: I love her but probably not necessary....

I don't get why you would say that about Jodi?!?!?!?

I watched it and really enjoyed the very Ariellike innocence in her performance. I thought it was spot on for her -- Disney -- the character.

I don't understand why people have to insult people's har efforts. Especially when they are filling a role that you just don't seem to understand. If Julie Andrews did old lady Mary Poppins, would you say Yikes too?

The Subs at DL are sooooo uncomfortable...the glass looking out is foggy/blurry making the illusion (character projections) not much of an illusion at all. But having your butt fall asleep within a minute can really ruin a ride...

You do know that it's all gone now and is part of the Fantasyland Expansion, right?

While I understood everyone's concerns with filling in the lagoon and building a playground at first, you had to believe something bigger would one day come along. The FLE may not be perfect, but it will soon welcome many more guests than a stagnant lagoon was in the end.

With all due respect to Martin and Lee, I do agree that our Nemo does the trick. It's the perfect warmup (or preshow) to the tanks. They could have shoved Nemo into the Seas and still kept the Sea Cabs closed. That would have been far worse! It's clearly not fair to compare it to what DL has, however.

I think what TP2000 brings up is interesting about the ride time of TLM and today's guests. It probably has more to do with money, but I would tend to agree that 6 minutes is probably equal to twice that a few decades ago. Just look at the 30 second (or less) Six Flags coasters out there that cost millions and draw the crowds. Now of course TLM won't be breaking 100 mph... :lookaroun

Not the Imagineers. It isn't their fault. Point the finger at those who hold the checkbook.

agreed. I'm sure the imagineers have notebooks full of great ideas, but ultimately it all comes down to cost of production and maintenance.

You got unlucky. All 4 of my rides were great.

Maybe I came across as harsh regarding Nemo and Friends. I do like it. I don`t like the numerous flaws and cost cutting. I`ve said time and time again I`m glad it happened, if it didn`t then the pavilion would have fallen into even more disrepair or even just close. Once again though it could and should have been better.

It's pretty well established that it is a dark ride, featuring an omnimover ride system similar to Haunted Mansion. The ride vehicles will be shaped like clams, much like Nemo at Epcot.

TLM is being built on the former 20k site... perhaps that is what caused the confusion?

Perhaps.

The omnimover system is great, its just that in nemo the ride really pushes the bare minimum of what they can do. Nothing against the ride, but it is extemely simple, mechanically speaking. Projections on a wall in basically a straight line that will rotate you at some points to look at the other side of the alley. TLM is supposedly going to maximize all features that an omnimover can bring to a ride and its transportation system.

And since it's an omnimover, it never stops moving. So in theory, the line should always be moving, unless there is some kind of pre-show that they plan to corral people into in groups like at HM.
