Ok.The big day comes around..The planning is complete and your off.But how long does it take you to get to your resort from your departure, including driving, flying, walking, etc.Do your kids get restless, and keep asking that ever ending question." Are we there yet "..? It takes us approx 34 hours from our house to PORS. ( driving & flying ) ..

Most of the time we fly out at 6:30 and arrive by 8:45 so about 5 hours. This year there was no direct flights and I should have waited bc now they are available:mad: In August it will be about 8 hours with our layover:mad:

For me vacation begins when my foot is out the door of the house. We also stay at the airport hotel so we don't have to get up as early:D

Us too, about 5 to 6 hours door to door. Thankfully Southwest has their early flight again this September (7:20 am), so that should get us into Orlando around 9:00 and to our resort (after our grocery stop) no later than 10:30. I love getting as much out of that first day as possible. Tiring yes, but I am so full of adrenaline anyway that I'm too excited to slow down and crash.

have not driven.....yet...that may change in 414 days when we go back to WDW....so, we leave greensboro at about 9 am, get to the raliegh airport at 1030...flight leaves usually around 1230 and we land at two...check in by 330 or so...so about 6 to 7 hours total from leaving house to getting into our hotel room
We are from Hickory! The drive is not too bad!

We need time for things to happen.
Good Lord Hatter ...I did the math (twice).... not my strong suit.... but by my calculations..that's a day and half wortha traveling...

Sooooo worth it though --- ain't it!!?? ;)

If we leave our driveway about 5AM we're usually eating lunch at Cosmic Ray's by 12:30 - 1:00
That's 20 minutes to the Airport, some waiting around, almost 3hrs in the Air, 30 long minutes of driving from the Airport to resort, check-in and then a 5-20min drive (depending where we're staying) to MK.

We drive down from Canada and it takes around 21 hours. We usually leave our house between 5-6am on a Friday morning and stop in Adel, GA between 10-11pm for the night before waking up and driving the rest of the way the next morning. As stupid and shocking as this may sound, I actually LIKE the drive!! I consider it the official start of our vacation and look forward to it!

Drive to airport (EWR) - 40 min
Arrive 2 hr early for flight - 2 hours
Flight to MCO - 2 hours
It seems that it takes me 1 hour or less from the time the plane lands to the time DME drops me at the resort - so 1 hour

That's a total of 5:30 or so - give or take. Less if we alow less time for security at the airport.

My kids have been making that trip since before they were too young to ask "are we there yet" - they know how long it takes.

My stepdaughter went for the first time last year. She asked at each change of mode (how long to the airport - OK, now how long on the plane, OK now how long on the bus?)

That's what I say when we hit Georgia!

I would think that driving through IN or IL would be enough to drive you nuts. I'm guessing that you drop down to Chicago to I-65 to Nashville, over I-24 to Chattanooga and then I-75 on down?

From Cincinnati, it is 13-14 hours driving (depending on Atlanta traffic) but we fly anymore. So, it is generally five hours from our door to the resort (counting Magical Express time). Since we started flying (and since I fly to destinations for work), I have gotten a little spoiled by the ease of traveling.

We actually live in southwest Wisconsin so we go down through Iowa and exit Iowa around Davenport. From there we go to I-74 and follow that until we hit Champaign, IL and then we take a bunch of different highways until we reach I-24 then we follow that to Chattanooga and then onto I-75.

And yes, Illinois is terrible! 7-8 hours of nothing to see but a big cross in Effingham for 20 seconds. Georgia tends to drag on, too.

I'm from IL and I can offer you no argument about it being a long boring state to drive in and through.

Ever stop and do the signs of the cross in Effingham? Georgia does take a long time. Sometimes we drive to Ft. Myers before Orlando (it is where the in-laws live) and that adds a lot of time. Florida is very long north/south.

Probably the worst travel decision ever was when I decided to skateboard down to Orlando from here in Indiana. Plus, I decided to go off road since it was more direct, this wasn't a time saver. Apparently, skate boards aren't meant to go over pine needles, dirt, swamp, and such. Who knew? Plus, I packed in these trunks -

This was also not a good idea. Overall the trip time was 7months, 2weeks, 4day, 16hours, 29minutes, 32 seconds, and 45 milliseconds.

No we never stopped there. We only usually stop for gas, bathroom, food or hotel. We find that we have such limited time for our vacation that we'd rather spend it there than doing roadside attractions. That and it just is a relief to finally get there after the drive.

About 6 hours from our front door to our resort. When my son was younger he would get restless on the plane but we always fly Jet Blue which has the TV's and that really helped.

How I wish JB would get direct flights from where I am! For us, you would have to fly to NY first.

It takes me approximately 1 hour and 15min from our front door to the World.....:) It's a tough , tough commute!!! Lol

My daily work commute is longer than that!;)

Last year, we left our house around 6 AM Monday morning and drove until about 10:30 PM Eastern time, when we pulled off just a little south of Atlanta. We were back on the road around 7 AM or so, and we got to the Nickelodean Suites around 5 PM.

This year, rather than leave at 6 AM Monday, we are going to get a headstart by leaving Easter Sunday after church and after the family dinner/Easter Egg hunt. Probably around 4 PM or so. Hoping to get to Clarksville, TN for the night. Monday morning, leave from Clarksville, rather than from Central Illinois, so maybe we can get to Gainseville, FL or thereabouts on Monday night and then get to Coronado springs on Tuesday around 9 or 10 AM, rather than 5 PM like last year?

Why does it take so long for us? Because we have a 6 year old and a 3 year old and we stop at almost every rest stop. We stop at at least one, maybe two sit down restaraunts. We stopped at the big shopping Mall in Chattanooga, TN and we stopped at the Magnolia Plantation in Southern Georgia. We also make a couple stops by Dairy Queen for ice cream. So we hardly drive straight through. But I love every bit of it. Well, except the part last year when my daughter puked in the van on the Florida Turnpike. I could have done without that...
