??? How?? WDW = 4 theme parks, 2 water parks, a large retail district, and >25 hotels vs. 2 theme parks & 3 hotels.

WDW is an international vacation destination and has way wayy more to do than DLR. I love DL but I will never get why it so ridiculously overhyped by fans. It's great, but it's tiny. You can spend a week there just as you can spend a week anywhere else, but it is far from a week long vacation destination in and of itself.
Some of us aren’t interested in hotels and water parks. Not sure about @TrainsOfDisney, but for me, based on what I personally like, WDW offers the same amount as the DLR, given that the number of rides/attractions are pretty much equal.

The thing I love about DL that WDW lacks is the crowds there are much better in general. Not just in size (it can get really cramped there) but in attitude. In WDW you get all these people totally unfamiliar with the park walking around trying to find Harry Potter and Minions as well as other dopey stuff, and tend to be more grumpy and a lot of "first time bad trippers". In DL it's tons of locals and repeat customers, many are Disney nerds that can talk at length about every little detail and history. People in Cali also have a much better sense of humor than in Florida. Probably because a lot of people visit from NY which has NO sense of humor whatsoever. (except late night tv and broadway). In addition there are many traditions not officially deemed by the park like Dapper day etc that liven up the place even more. People do lots of wacky outfits at all times anyway. I saw a Dreamfinder bound last time. There is also the Walt factor that makes it very charming. Disneyland actually has more rides than the Magic Kingdom especially in Fantasyland where World only has two dark rides left (and a boat dark ride). Theres Toad, Alice, Snow White, Pinnocio, and Pan in Cali. There is also the Matterhorn which is more intense than Seven Dwarfs, and Storybookland. The Walkthrough Castle too. Small World is also very much more pretty especially at night. Toontown is now an amazing tribute to nostalgic 80s and 90s Disney cartoons. Then theres Primeval World and Grand Canyon, and the fastest park hopping of any Disney Resort. So it's got its pluses. However it does have the inferior Pooh Ride and smaller Space Mt. But It Still has Subs! But no Peoplemover back (BOOO!!). And No CBJ!!! But it does have INDIANA JONES!

Disneyland is better than Magic Kingdom, or any other domestic US park.

Disneyland Resort is not better than the Walt Disney World Resort.
I agree, but I think it depends on your interests.

If you’re not staying onsite at WDW, Disneyland has cheap and convenient off-site options within walking-distance.

The resorts are what makes WDW special, but you’re also paying for it.

If you’re an Epcot and Animal Kingdom person, WDW is easily better, but if you’re MK and HS, Disneyland is near impossible to beat.

If you’re just there to marathon rides, the accessibility of Disneyland probably wins out.

WDW is built more for leisurely tourists who are fine with only riding a few rides or taking things slow. Which is fine, but Disneyland can be taken slow or rapidly, but it’s very difficult to take WDW rapidly.

Honestly don’t think there’s much to debate regarding the quality of Disneyland Park, but ultimately I think the better resort comes down to the type of traveler. It also shouldn’t be discounted that WDW generally comes with a much higher price tag at every step of the trip, and I don’t necessarily think the benefits outweigh the increased costs for most people.

Disneyland has more live entertainment in the parks so that takes up lots of my time, Disneyland resort also has as many attractions as WDW. It’s pretty easy for me.

I visit both and enjoy both. It used to be more of a toss up but now DL is the winner for me. It feels more like Disney magic.

I really enjoy the discussion on this thread. For those familiar with the DLR, does it offer Genie+ and require a park reservation or is that just a WDW thing?

DLR fans are more stubborn, but I think it’s because we know our worth & how great the parks should be. WDW has better resorts & shopping areas for sure, DLR hotels can’t compare. But many don’t care about that. WDW has almost the same amount of attractions, just so incredibly spread apart among under-built parks. I almost feel ripped off visiting the parks on a crowded day, it’s a lot of walking and a few attractions. On the otherside, WDW fans get stubborn when they bring size into it. They just see it as bigger so it’s better. It’s almost like pouring the same amount of water in a small cup and a big cup, the child will think the bigger cup has more water.

I will say, while I hate that a lot of WDW parks are long walks of shops/restaurants, it does mean there’s more lands to check out. I always say you could always take a casual hike anywhere at WDW because there’s so many different lands & places to visit. You can go from France to Africa to the Coronado all in a day visiting the resort. But I also can ride dozens of e-tickets & dark rides all within one day at DLR. I highly enjoy both resorts, I just have to shift my perspective as they both are very different.

I think the Disneyland-WDW debate is basically the “does size matter” debate.

It’s not the size, but how you use it. If you know you know.

WDW does not use it properly.

While I do enjoy Disneyland itself, I think comparing the two resorts in absolute terms is kind of absurd. WDW is much larger and has much more to do, with much broader entertainment offerings. You have water parks, shopping districts, zoo exhibits and aquariums, science center type activities at EPCOT... even DHS, which is the weakest of the WDW parks is superior to DCA I'd wager. So yes Disneyland is great, I've been I love it. But I definitely think size does matter when we're discussing which resort warrants more time spent within its gates... hell just traversing DAK and EPCOT makes either take up much more time than DCA.

It isn't even about which one we prefer. Although as a resort I do prefer WDW (DAK is my favorite them park, and I really can't stand DCA). It's about whether WDW takes more than twice as much time to see as DLR, which was my only original point and which I view as obviously correct for the vast majority of guests.

After 14 trip to WDW over 20 years, we finally were worn down by price, lack of amenities/perks, and overcrowding- we took a trip to DL and loved it- shorter lines, better weather, lots to do in the area (actual movie studios instead of whatever Hollywood Studios is now). Disneyland actually feels like a laid-back vacation. WDW feels like a quest or battle- battle the cost, heat, lines, etc. and try to "win" happiness. I've no desire to go back anytime soon. My kids on the other hand...

I don't know. I went to Disneyland in August of 2021. I like both Disneyland and Disney World. However, one thing I didn't like about Disneyland was the long walk from the park back to the parking garage.

It took me over an hour to get a parking spot, get on a ferry (monorail was closed) and get into MK one time so I'm always super grateful to be able to walk to my car haha. I was so frustrated by the time I entered the park.

DLR did have trams though. I always park at Toy Story Parking lot tough which is close to the entrance & their buses have AC.

In the Parks
Yes
I'll base my opinion on location. I5 is significantly worse than I4. The very reasons Walt chose a remote location for a larger park is my deciding factor.

The amount of time it takes to get from parking to the entrance to MK can’t be overstated. This is where I feel like…eff all this extra space lol. Damn all this walking and having to sail on boats to get to the park.

Exactly!!! It’s nice and all but on a busy day it is not ideal at all & a huge time waster. Leaving is even worse! I actually had to yell for a CM leaving one time because the dock was way too overcrowded with people pushing on eachother. We were so squished people were even pushing up on this poor special needs child next to me who was in a wheelchair & he started hyperventilating badly. The CM scolded me at first too for trying to open the nearest barricade to let them out as it was too chaotic for any CM to hear us, but then they quickly helped us once they saw why we were trying to open the barricade.
