Anyone heard anything from Jim MacPhee since he became the VP of Epcot?

I can't even get a decent hit on his name in Google.

Not so much. I remember seeing *somewhere* in the Disney fan universe that someone had asked for an interview with him but Mickey's PR said he was "still settling in."

If I were him, I would keep a bit of a low profile for awhile. With all of the excitement with Disney execs being liberally bashed, I might wait until something great happens to thrust myself into the spotlight.

from interviews? Perhaps. However, if I were him, I would make myself very visible in the parks--that is, I would grab a broom and dustpan, go out into the park wearing my suit and name badge, clean things up and speak with guests and Cast Members.

Supposedly someone just saw him a few days ago staring at the wand with an angry look on his face before walking backstage and humming "tomorrow's child" as he was leaving the area. :lookaroun

how long does it take to get "acquainted"? He's been working for the company for decades. Surely, he knows where Epcot is by now...it even has that nice sign out front to help.

Haven't heard anything from Jim MacPhee?! Isn't he the one responsible for the new tipboard in Epcot? It is such an important addition to the park!

Do you honestly, during the ever so persistent ramblings that occur here, stop to think about what you are saying? Do you see the executives of any company spending more than a publicity driven moment cleaning up their facilities.
As a cast member, I am more comfortable taking care of the property, so they can make sure the place is here tomorrow, so I still have a job.
It is along the lines of the official ground breakings every so often...do you really believe the 6 men in suits with the golden plated shovels will physically construct the new attraction that follows those shovel tips of fill they remove?
Cut the guy some slack, he obviously has done something right if the LARGEST RESORT IN THE WORLD has decided he should provide the leadership at a flagship park.

yes...expecting someone to get a broom and dustpan is truly expecting too much...lol. I wouldn't want him to break a sweat working in his theme park in central Florida.

I agree with you. LEAD BY EXAMPLE.

I cant think of any better way to show not only Epcot CMS but Ecpot guests that as a VP he is approachable.
Coming from the military, any good General realizes that to truly understand whats going on in the battlefield you have to get your boots muddy from time to time.

Rallying the CMS at Epcot is not only the right thing to do its the smart thing to do.Epcot doing well highly depends on CMS working the front lines. If you show them your willing to roll up your sleeves once and a while you will get loyal people. If you mandate policy from your office all the time see how the turnover will be.

hahaha...you really have no idea what you are talking about. The best theme park execs can be found in their parks with a broom and dustpan, speaking with guests and employees. The former president of the Disneyland Resort, Matt Ouimet, did this (before leaving for an undoubtedly higher paying job in charge of 850 hotels at Starwood Resorts), and at a local theme park up here, Lake Compounce, I saw the park manager out in the park, with broom and dustpan, speaking with guests both this past Saturday and Monday. It increases employee morale and guest happiness to see managers who are not too self-important to stop by their parks every once in awhile.

Of course you will make your rounds, to see how things are going, and in the process of conducting the rounds it would be smiled upon to pitch in, but you are insane if you really think the cast will be that impressed by a few minutes of work. Cast members aren't stupid, they know a show when they see one, and someone like Jim McPhee spending a day in custodial gear cleaning up trash is nothing short of insulting to those that do it every day. The Disney business model would have never succeed if those that were in charge were too busy cleaning up to take care of their responsibilities. Occasionally yes, but they are being paid to do far more than to tell you to keep your arms and hands in the vehicle.

My only concern is that since Jim Macphee has been with the company for along time he may still be complacent from the eisner era. However I hope he understands that maintaining disney's former high standards and reinvigorating Epcot Center is of the utmost importance.

I will reserve judgement.

Walt Disney himself was seen all the time walking around Disneyland picking up trash.
I would never expect a VP to spend his entire day picking trash up.They have a lot more to do such as Budgets, planning,HR,marketing,P&R,etc.

I do think it makes alot of sense to spend at least 40% of his time in the parks.Thats a conservative mix.60% office and meetings and 40% actually in the parks seeing and hearing first hand what works and what doesnt and if needbe pick some trash up and show CMS he cares about how Epcot operates.
Trust me on this after 17 years of holding leadership roles(currently in mid level mgt with Target) hourly employees DO CARE if they see their leaders jumping in to help.
