This is not meant to be a discussion about candidates or any political views.

alright.. my question is, if your area is allowing for early voting, and if you have voted already. And if you're not voting simply to make a point, don't reply.

I voted on Saturday. I won't get political here, I just felt that since a certain party had complained until they got numerous early polling places opened (which still aren't enough for them) and one was only a couple of blocks from my house, I might as well take advantage of it.

It also made it possible for my husband and I to go to the polls together for the first time since 1976.

I voted absentee as the poll I work at isn't the one I vote at. With record turnouts predicted; I figured it would really be hard to get away for fifteen minutes to vote at my precinct.

We don't early vote so we can take our DDs and teach them to vote since they are only 10, 8, and 6 but they are learning. That is how we taught our DSs. They are 24 and 20.

Voting early allows you to bypass Election Day lines. Most places that have it encourage it.

Debbie, I didn't know you could work in a different precinct than the one you were registered. But since I have lived in Louisiana, nothing there political surprises me. :)

I'll be working the polls that day. Since June 1, our county has had 15,000+ people register to vote. It's gonna be a busy day.

Kansas has allowed early voting for some time now. Actually, I think it isn't early voting as much as it is VERY relaxed rules about absentee voting. Across the border in Missouri, you have to swear that you will be unable to drag yourself to a polling place on Nov 3 in order to vote absentee.

In the last presidential election, lines at the polls were 2 hours + from 4-7 PM. I just want to avoid that mess.

Plus, there's a certain smugness I get from knowing that all the last minute blitz of commercials will do absolutely nothing to change my vote.

I do have to say that I have some doubts about when or even IF my vote will be counted. Kansas is a solid "red" state, (the state motto should be "Republican since Lincoln") so votes for anyone other than Bush are a waste of time. We have a hotly contested Congressional race in which my vote is of more importance--and will actually make a difference.

Theoretically, it's to allow ample time for EVERYONE to get to the polls. Florida is a "no excuse needed" absentee ballot state, so ANYONE could call and have a ballot mailed, and send it back in. Apparently, that's too much work for some. An early ballot could also be cast at the Supervisor of Elections Office, but that is also "too hard."

BTW, the early ballot was clearly marked "Absentee Ballot" so even though it has been recorded, it won't be counted until later.

My hubby worked the polls for many years & was never assigned to sit at our voting site. They have to give you time to vote as well as meal breaks.

I've never heard of voting early & I've been voting since 1975; I've only missed voting once (was busy giving birth  ).

Funny, we can't work anywhere but our registered precinct. And it seems, you must be over 80 years old and senile to become a poll worker (that was sarcastic; no offense to any other poll workers out there). It would be nice to see some "younger" people getting involved in the civics of our country.

I live in New York, which doesn't have early voting. But due to my erratic work schedule and my beliefs, I usually vote absentee. You'd be amazed at how much control ES&S and Diebold, the two companies in charge of most of the voting machines, have on the process. The sort of stuff that happened in West Palm in 2000 is just the tip of the iceberg. It's scary. Makes you wonder if our votes really count at all...

Oh, West Palm could very well happen again. With Theresa LePore as the elections supervisor, she lost thousands of absentee ballots (at least that's what I believe until it is proven otherwise.).
