In 2000 it was the millenium promotion, in 2001 it was 100 years of Disney. We are going to WDW in January of 2003 and they told us we couldn't get a new video because they didn't know what kind of promotion they would be offering and also we couldn't book because the new packages aren't decided on already. I feel like its kind of wasting time. Does anyone know when they normally assign new packages or any idea when/what the 2003 promotion will be?????

I don't see a year long celebration taking place. There really isn't anything to celebrate.

Look for Mission:Space, Pop Century, and Philharmagic to be advertised heavily, but not a celebration centered around them.

November 18, 2003 will be Mickey's 75th B-day. I would think that they might make something out of that. I would doubt a year long celebration but possibly something in the fall. As for January, I haven't heard anything of yet.

I don't know much about this but when we were just down there, I saw a bunch of souveniors with 30th anniversary on it...do you think that that could be extended into the 2003 season?

Either way, celebration or no celebration, Disney is the BEST!

It would be nice if they held off on their "celebrations" for awhile. Personally, I could care less about the celebratrions, because they aren't much more than a big gimmick to get more people to go.

WOOHOO!!! I'll book a room at the Polynesian for the entire year for that celebration! Will year long passes be made available and special pins that light up when a parade blows through?

The best celebration was definitely the millenium celebration @ Epcot. This 100 years of magic is just lame -- don't even know why I went to Disney as many times as I did this year. Maybe I'll cancel all future trips to disney for the remainder of the year and pick it up sometime in Feb 2003. :)

You may be forgetting something...

It's possible that we may have overlooked something obvious. Somewhere between October 1st, 1982, and October 24th (Opening Ceremonies), 1982, Epcot center opened it's doors to the public. So therefore, starting in October 2002, we could see the kickoff to a 20-year anniversary celebration for Epcot Center.

And what better way to market it than an entirely new experience that continues the Epcot tradition,

Mission: Space!!

They may wait until M:S is ready to go but I expect at least a little fanfare celebrating 20 years of educational fun.

I completly overlooked EPCOT. But again, I can't see a yearlong for EPCOT.

I too have been trying to get package rates for next summer through the disney club so that we can get our discount. They tell me that those rates won't be available until october or november. If you are looking for a regular package, then you can get those now and they are calling them dreamaker packages this year. You would think that it wouldn't be such a big deal to have package rates available a year ahead.

I read in People while I was getting my haircut that the 30th anniversary of WDW celebration will begin on Oct. 1st.

How old was that People??? This year is the 30th :) (If the celebration started Oct. 1st, and last til December of the following year, it would be the 31st anniversary :) )

Yeah, but that's what they did for the 25th Anniversary. I was there in December of 1997 and caught the end of the celebration. I think it could be a combination of Mickey's 75th and the 30th of WDW, but that's just my guess.

I can see the 75th birthday of Mickey (especially after the 100th of Walt) I mean, "It was all started by a Mouse" afterall.

Remember a few months back...right after September 11th had sorta cooled off...Disney said that they felt they had been a bit jipped during the first four months of the 100 Years of Magic Celebration and they considered tacking a few months of the Celebration on in 2003. I would guess that is what will happen--they will extend the 100 Years of Magic Celebration till like...April 30, 2003, and have it conclude with Mission: SPACE opening.

For some reason I see some type of celebration for the Mouse's 75th. I can't see them not. And if the don't have a celebration in 2003, expect a nice big one in 2004.

I doubt there will be another big celebration. It was just a coincidence that Walt was born right after the turn of the century, so both celebrations would be back to back.

As for the Mickey celebration, it could happen, but Mickey is being celebrated 24-7-365 already at WDW!

I think that the millenium celebration and Walt's 100th were both very important celebrations, so they can now start to relax (untill Epcot's 25th, anyway :) )
