I've been looking at both the Kindle 2 and the Kindle DX and am seriously considering getting one. The shelves in my library at home are reaching capacity, and I kind of like the thought of thousands of book, magazines and newspapers at the tip of my hand. Anyone out there have and use one on a regular basis? What are your impressions? The good points and bad? Any help would be greatly appreciated from all. Even you Jt.

Two things:

1.) Up until this Wednesday you can buy and Kindle and get a total refund if you don't like it.

2.) Wednesday Apple is holding their press conference with their new handheld bigger screened device (I don't want to call it a tablet or slate). Wait till then, see what they offer, and make a choice. (I'm calling it now, it'll be called Canvas or something like that.)

I've heard nothing but positive and great things about the Kindle, even compared to the Barns & Noble "Nook", it's still the best ebook reader.

Hope that helps

Thanks, it does. And I too heard about the their announcement this week. And I'll be interested to see what they unveil as a devout IPhone user and future Mac Air buyer. But for ebook purposes, I think the Kindle will be more cost-effective to me than what Apple will debut. But thank you very much again. :)

I have Kindle on my iPhone (which was 100% free) and I am addicted to it. I never thought I'd enjoy reading books on a screen, but I was definitely wrong. The lighting is always perfect, and turning pages just takes a flick. I love that I can carry an entire library around with me in my pocket. If I find myself stuck in some long line (for example, the 2 hour line to get into Toys R Us on Thanksgiving at midnight lol) then I just download a book to read.

I don't think I'd like the REAL kindle though. I don't believe it's a lighted screen (like the iPhone) so you can't read in the dark, and I also don't think you can just "flick" between pages like on the iPhone...which are the 2 things I like best about it.

Just get kindle for free on your iPhone. It works great.

I bought my wife a Kindle for Christmas and she absolutely loves it.

The only drawback worth mentioning, so far, is the absence of back lighting which would be handy when traveling at night.

The Kindle has been great.

Ironically, I do have it. Along with another book app I had purchased just before I put Kindle on there. And while they're both ok for short periods, I have a hard time with the screen size after a while. And that goes for most of the apps on the IPhone. They're good to me for a little while, but the screen size starts to bother my eyes after an extended viewing. That's why I was wondering if anyone had used either the Kindle 2 or the DX. The DX has a screen size 3" larger than the Kindle 2.....

Would you mind telling me which one you bought her? I'm torn between the Kindle 2 and the DX model. Thanks!

Ahhh. I can read books on mine for about 8 hours straight with no problems. I adjust text size and background color as needed. I think the regular Kindle would hurt my eyes more due to the lack of lighting (I usually only read in bed at night when my husband's asleep). I also like that the iPhone fits in my pocket.

But regardless, I don't know of anyone who has a Kindle in any shape or form that doesn't love it.

Back-lighting is proven to cause eye-strain. You can also read the Kindle in bright sunlight; backlit devices are difficult to read in the sun. The kindle is designed to mimic real paper and ink. I can read much longer on my Kindle than I can on my blackberry.

You can buy a small clip on light for reading in bed, however, I still prefer a table-side lamp.

I have the Kindle 2.

How do you like the Kindle 2? Did you also have the original model? Thanks!

The Kindle 2 - I was worried the screen might not be big enough since the other model is larger, but the screen is plenty large enough.

Good luck.

Feel the pages, write in the margins, dogear the corners... really show the book some love and have that love appear on the spine and edges in the form of creases and stains.

You can't love a machine like you can a book.

Unfortunately, I have over 800 volumes in my personal library now, and simply no more room for any new ones (unless I got a divorce first ). So I'm willing to try something new for the sake of reading and my marriage. :)
