Anyone got any detailed Disney facts?

Ya I have been interested in the heights for awhile now. One poster said Cinderalla's castle is 199 feet, but it is not. It is 189 feet, but appears to be larger due to the structure of it.
E:E is highest at 199.5 then TOT at 199 flat.

Also, if you are this serious about learning alot I highly recommend the WDW trivia book. Very solid and has loads of Info that not many people know.
But as one poster said just keep reading these threads, you will learn ALOT.

there's now 1,000 ghosts in the haunted mansion, I volunteered yesterday

Ok, seriously...

The Tower of Terror is 199 ft. tall, because if it was 200 ft. tall, Disney would have been required to put a warning light on top of it (for aircraft)

The official name for the property of Walt Disney World is the Reedy Creek Improvement District

The Great Movie Ride was originally planned to be a pavilion in EPCOT Center, before Eisner decided to compete with Universal Studios moving to Orlando and built Disney MGM Studios ahead of them.

The entire park of Magic Kingdom and Future World in Epcot have "Utilidors"...underground tunnels for the staff, supplies, break rooms and other things.
Well that really interesting stuff:)

If you go into One Man's Dream in DHS, one of the computer control towers near the AA bird and such is one of the original HORIZONS control computers from the bowels of EPCOT Center. If you look closely on the top, you can see where Horizons was poorly scribbled out with a sharpie. :D

Let's see:

* Walt Disney World opened in 1961, one week before John F. Kennedy was sworn into office. JFK rode in the Main Street parade the day after his inauguration, and was given a giant "Key to the World" by Walt Disney himself!

* After the Soviet Union was discovered to have nuclear missiles in Cuba, the Pentagon secretly approached Disney and asked if the area under Cinderella Castle could be used as a secret launch site for a counterstrike, due to its proximity to Miami.

* The original Jungle Cruise featured live gorillas along the riverbanks, but this was discontinued after an 8-year-old boy was brutally attacked after sneaking a banana onto his boat, despite posted warnings that food was strictly forbidden onboard.

* The monorail was extended to Disney-MGM Studios originally, but operating costs caused Disney to dismantle that portion of the rail. You can still see the holes in the side of the Swan and Dolphin resorts where the monorails made their stops on the way to the Studios.

* World Showcase featured an Israeli pavilion for several years. Sadly, political protesters set off multiple small fires and explosions during the First Intifada, which culminated in a massive blaze in 1989. The pavilion was closed shortly thereafter.

* The leprechaun in the Irish section of "it's a small world" has been stolen and replaced at least 23 times to date. Disney has been unable to determine who the thief is or why. One theory is that the pilfering was related to the IRA and its infamous reign of terror, an idea that has gained credence since the leprechaun has remained unmolested during the recent peace process.

* A themed strip club that would have opened with Pleasure Island was quickly abandoned and converted into the Adventurers Club after Walt Disney's surviving family caught wind of the scheme and threatened to agitate for Michael Eisner's ouster.

* Ironically, Roy Disney still lobbied against Eisner years later after he sat in on a meeting where Eisner proposed turning the Country Bear Jamboree into a new show to be called The Hip-Hop Bearz & They Homies! As we all know, Eisner eventually resigned.

* The Haunted Mansion has 999 Imagineered ghosts, but there also could be one real one in the mix! That's because Wayne Allwine, who provided the voice of Mickey Mouse until his recent death, loved the ride so much that he asked to be interred and buried in the graveyard scene. Disney couldn't turn down this request, although Allwine's exact resting place in the scene remains a mystery!

* There are tunnels underneath the Magic Kingdom where costumed employees and maintenance staff can access attractions without guests seeing them. (This one I'm not entirely sure about, though. I just heard it from a bus driver, so it might be a complete lie!)

Hope this helps!

Wilt Dasney is not only tight as toast to the 'royal family', but he has the knowledge and insider info that keeps this forum alive and kicking... Don't doubt him too much or you might find you've missed out on a really important (highly unknown) fact. :king:

The Host of the now retired Kitchen Kabaret show Bonnie Appetite had her head chopped off and now sits on a pole. I miss her... she was so full of life.

I’ve been a fan of Disney since I was very young. I grew up watching all of the Disney movies and pretty much enjoyed every single one. Recently a Friend of mine challenged me to go above and beyond the knowledge of just the Disney movies to learn everything I possibly can about Disney World before we go on our trip in August. He knows some of the most detailed facts about Disney World. For example, anywhere from the number of Ghosts in the Haunted Mansion to the smell that is pumped into the air while walking down Main Street. What I would like to hear from everyone out there is any detailed facts that you know that he might not know so I could stump him in the future. (I have stumped him before so he is human and doesn’t know everything! lol)

Walt Disney World was opened in 1971:)

Ok, I am not a guru on all the WDW information out there, but I do know a little more than the average fan. I am a fellow Cast Member and enjoy telling and researching for secrets and facts that others want to know!

The last 'secret' is TRUE! There are 9 acres of tunnels under th magic Kingdom called UTILIDORS. all of the utilities that the park requires is underneath the park itself. It is also true that Cast Members have a wardrobe, showers and locker room too! Ther is also a bank, a cafeteria, offices, character zoo (COSTUME CHARACTERS CHANGING ROOMS) and break rooms with in a 9 acre system. One last fact, since the water table in florida is at sea level, the utilidors were built first then back-filled and the Magic Kingdom Park was built on top, therefore, THE SECOND FLOOR!!!! Now how often so you go to a theme park that is two stories high!?

BJ, you totally forgot about the time that DVC wangted to do a cross-promotional stunt during the "year of a million dreams." The idea, to coincide with the opening of the DVC treehouse villas at Saratoga Springs, was to award special "dream nights" to random park vistiors; they'd be awarded a night's stay in the "treehouse dream suite," which would have been a two story treehouse built inside the Tree of Life at Disney's Animal Kingdom.
