Anyone else miss World of Motion??

Ah, it's fun to be free!! What a WONDERFUL attraction it was. The theming, the hundreds of AAs, the promise, the comedy - it was certainly an inspiring E-Ticket! Unfortunately, all of us "WOM fans" (who really like the attraction) will have to deal with Test Track, which is a very limited attraction as far as outlook. The sets and themeing really don't come close to those of World of Motion - wouldn't it be great if they could have rehabbed World of Motion and ADDED Test Track? Heck, now it's a whole pavilion centered around a five minute attraction. *Sigh*.

Anyway, we have to live with what we have, it's pretty hard for me - but the attraction will always be alive in our hearts and spirits - it's spirit is unextinguishable!

Long live World of Motion!! (And Horizons and Journey Into Imagination and Kitchen Kabaret...)

Most assuredly, I miss it...

World of Motion was probably one of the most charming rides WDW had to offer. It looked irresistable to a kid back in the '80's.

The way the ride cars went up and around the big column gave a great view of the park, and if you had never ridden it before, you had no idea what to expect.

Check out my avatar. I miss it deeply. Test Track has none of the Disney "Magic" World of Motion offered.

Miss it?? Miss it?? You bet I do. Along with Horizons, Dreamfinder and all that stuff. I loved the EPCOT Center of the 1980s. I agree with the fellow that said in an earlier posting that Disney should not have to rip down rides for us to get new attractions. One thing always bothered me. There is only one permamnent attraction that was ever in EPCOT that I never experienced. I never got a chance to see Symbiosis in the Harvest Theatre in the Land. I might create a new thread about it. Hmm....I will do that now.

I have to agree on the magic/atmosphere - I'm just too hesitant to say things now. There are so many TT fans - and don't want to insult. :( Boy, I am REALLY missing it now!!

yeah your right, Test Track doesn't charm us as good as the other attraction did, WOM... I think it was especially Disney Magic at the end when when u went though the future city, and there was all those lasers and stuff, And then it showed u in the Space Car, There was so much to that ride, It was great...

I dont see how anyone could possibly want that down, The effects and everything were great on that ride! It has so much to it..

People always accuse WOM of being the past. However, without the past, what good is knowing the future - or progress? But, in fact, the entire finale, yes, was about the future - even the wonderful transcenter. I don't see why people didn't like it. Maybe because it wasn't thrilling?

That's why most people like Test Track. Thrill ride. What that has to do with EPCOT, ugh...nevermind. There I go. I had an hour debate yesterday on the subject. Both parties concluded it doesn't meet up to the potential!!

I have yet to see an EPCOT attraction that outbeats the previous. I.E. Energy...I can say that's better. And HISTA. Both are good replacements in my eyes for several reasons, that I'm sure I don't need to go into. But Imagination, Food Rocks, and Test Track...there's just so much more...space.

Speaking of Space, cross your fingers that Mission: Space doesn't insult us!! :D

I know what u mean, I was surprised by peeps not liking WOM, of course i can understand y the attraction went "bye bye" everytime i went to Epcot, The capacity was always very low, and there was no one in line for it that much....

Maybe its not cause they needed a thrill, but cause the low capacity and lack of guests riding it... Anyways i watching a show about Disney and GM said "Its time for World of Motion to change, Its time for a ride Makeover" and thought they could make a bigger hit by getting Test Track i guess..

Capacity was very high actually. According to my math, (which may or may not be too reliable!), WOM had over 4x the capcity of Test Track. ANd I never remember it being EMPTY, so hopefully those who SAY it was were THERE! ;)

World of Motion. Wow. Remember when rides used to be longer than their waits? And every bit of the ride was so detialed??

Yes so, I remember that like it was yesterday :). I can barely remember WoM, Although cause its been such a long time ago since i rode it. And i can remember the entrance thing being inside or something.... and the There was Mirrors ontop, it was weird but awesome, And i remember one day we didn't wait in line for it at all we just hopped right on! I always like the end, when u exit, In that place where the Test Track store is now.... I liked the Stuff in there.. They had some cool Animatronic stuff :).

Actually heres what happened,is GM wanted to find a way to jazz up the WOM. Theres an article in a Disney Mag i have from right around the time TT opened. As soon as i find the book ill post the article. And did you know the most photographed spot in all of EPCOT was the transcenter .

I'm racking my brain trying to figure out who you had this debate with, lol! And I said it did and didn't meet up with the potential... it's good but could be better. Like i said Test Track has all the elements of a Disney Attraction... but yet it's missing something. Do you have the convo still? That'd be really cool to post, lol!

As a history major, I really miss World of Motion. Also as a history major, I get mad when people say Spaceship Earth is boring, and that Carousel of Progress should be removed. I also miss Horizons, even though that wasn't quite as historical as the others.

In many cases these rides, especially Horizons, were like historiographies (a study of how history is recorded, including varying biases). I personally think that the futureworld/tomorrowland attractions benefit from a glance at how we got where we are, and using that to guess at the future.

I'm not saying these rides should never be updated or removed, but they have certain qualities that I have always enjoyed that are not necessarily being carried over.

Yeah, there was something said earlier in the post about Epcot in the 80's, and i agree. I loved the Epcot of the 80's. It just had this feeling to it. I'm not sure how to describe it, I guess it was just the vibe, but it's slowly fading away. The day they replace Spaceship Earth is the day i stop going to Epcot, so they better not replace it with anything. The omnimover rides. What a creation!

I'm sure the attractions that will always remain at EPCOT would be Spaceship Earth, American Adventure, and Land Greenhouse. The rest are more favorable for rehab, but those three I can not imagine leaving!

I made this little map out a few years back:

1982 - 1993: The Future World
1994 - 1998: Transition
1999 - 2001: Millennium Celebration
2001 - 2003: 100 Years of Magic
2005 - 2???: Transition
2??? - 2???: Unknown

I wish they could include a 25th anniversary and bring some exhibits, remembering Walt's vision and the 1980s EPCOT...cross your fingers. I thought they'd do it this year (20), but I doubt it.

World of Motion was my absolute favorite back in the eighties. I remember riding it 4 or 5 times in one day on one trip. Horizons was second. I also remember that the pictures of the "traffic jam" scene in the Epcot book didn't entirely match the actual scene in the ride. Like there were some changes made just before the park opened or something.

With a ride so well done and complex, there was bound to be changes throughout the years in scenes. That's what made it exciting - there was so much to see - it was a different trip each time, yet revolving around the same theme. Boy, it was so funny!
