Anybody Out There Not Get Sick?

I just read that awful news about a Norwalk type virus hitting so many people...that's sad.

With tens of thousands of people on property right now, are there any out there who just got back, or are still there, and didn't become ill? :)

I'd be pretty sure you can say there are hundres of thousands who have visited recently and not go sick. Otherwise the place would be sealed off.

I'm sure that's true Steve. We're leaving in 3 days and taking my elderly mother, so I am a bit concerned.

I did, however, do a significant search online for news stories and checked the Centers for Disease Control, but I can't find any official news of an outbreak. I'm sure people are getting sick, but perhaps the numbers aren't large enough to be news worthy or aren't too much worse than normal. I was just looking for some reassurance I guess.

I was at the Studios and MK on Saturday and didn't get sick. Don't know how much that accounts for anything, but since you asked...

I posted in the other thread. Based on what limited info has been provided, it's not likely a Norwalk virus. Steps for protecting yourself apply to any virus. Wash your hands after going to the washroom and before eating or preparing food. Avoid raw shellfish.

my wife and I have been here for 9 days now and have not gotten sick or seen anyone sick.

Sounds to me just like the flu/stomach bug going around which happens. It was pretty bad in my area before we left.

We do know what it's like however to be here sick....our honeymoon at the beach club villas 2 years ago... whew....not fun!

I've been at the parks for the past week and not gotten sick. However, we are not staying at the resorts, but did stop at the resorts and eat at some of them.

We stayed at Saratoga Springs the first week of December. I wasn't sick when I left but I sure was depressed. :(

But I get to go to F&G in May for my free birthday ticket! :sohappy:

Thanks all. My Mom is here with us and she's feeling better about going. At her age, she gets concerned about a bad virus hitting; especially while vacationing (in another country too).

When several hundred thousand people are flooding the parks, I imagine there are always a number of people ill. I guess the population of WDW at this time of year is like that of a city, so in terms of absolute numbers, there are probably a few thousand feeling under the weather, for a variety of reasons, at any given time.

Guess I better pack a can of lysol for the room, and one of those hand sanitizer liquids in my purse and possibly some handi-wipes for wiping down areas....just to be safe.....:lookaroun

We were at Riverside from the 12th-20th, and thankfully no one in our group got sick.

Sorry to all of those that did! What a crummy thing to happen on vacation!!!

WDW is not a self-contained cruise ship. I'm not a doctor or CDC scientist, but with 60,000 central Floridians working on-site then heading home at the end of the day, I imagine this would very quickly become an Orlando-wide (or at least southwest Orange County-wide) epidemic. While I've heard plenty of anecdotal evidence about various colds going around, no news reports of Norwalk on the news, and no anecdotal evidence other than from the Internet. So I'm not that worried yet.

Lysol may help to an extent, but most likely the hand sanitizer will not as those are usually antibacterial and not antiviral....

just make sure you wash your hands with soap and WARM water often. If it truly is the Norwalk Virus it is very unlikely that you will "catch" it just by walking around the parks or staying at one of the resorts for a couple days...I think the OP or someone who commented on the other thread said Beach Club was hit the worst? The virus spreads among people that are within contained spaces (ie: cruise ships) so it's very unlikely that it could just pop up over at WL or something....unless of course a guest from BC went to Whispering Canyon for dinner and had a bad case of the runs and was not neat about it... :hurl:

sorry to be slightly graphic...I work for a cruiseline and we just dealt with a "code red" ship last weekend when it came back into port.
