i'm not sure if all of you have heard about richard harris's (prof. dumbledore *sp?*) passing on on friday.. i'm personally very saddened by it. not that i'm a huge fan of his or anything..true, he was a great actor, and very much a veteran of the acting world, but he was made to be Dumbledore...he was just perfect for that part! after i saw the movie (which was my introduction to the magical world of harry potter) i couldn't imagine anyone else being dumbledore...and even after i read the first book, i still pictured only him as dumbledore.
so what do you all think is going to happen now? do you think they will continue making the movies? (i'm assuming they will) if you do think so, who do you reckon they'll get to replace mr. harris? i hate using the word replace, but at the moment i can't think of any other terms. really, i don't want to see anybody else play dumbledore...but you just can't have a harry potter movie without dumbledore...he's too crutial of a character to leave out.

I was thinking about who would be able to replace him.. Ian Mckellen perhaps? If you don't know who that is, it is Gandalf from LOTR, or Magneto from X-Men, Gods and Monsters, etc. etc.

That is the only person I could think of. Anyways, yes I'm also an avid Harry Potter fan. I had read all of the books before I saw the movie, and I'm excitedly anticipating the Chamber of Secrets :)

I was thinking about that too, how about Richard Simmons?
Or Patrick Stewart?
PS. I'm a huuuge HP fan, love the books, love the movie, love everything about it.
(Except some of the toys, some of them are sooo ridiculous and stupid!)

I'll do some digging about all of this. Production on the third film was to begin in either January or April. I'll be at the premiere in NY on November 10th. I'll go ask some people about it.

That's a shame! :( Does anyone know if they've started filming of the 3rd movie, "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban"???

I love HP, and was so sad to hear the news that he had passed away. That is the first thing I thought of too was who would replace him in the movies.

I wish J.K. Rowling would finish her next book. It's been forever since the last book was released. I got hooked on the books and started reading them to dd. I am trying to read her the 2nd book before the movie comes out.

I think Peter O'Toole would be a perfect alternative to Richard Harris. He's very much in the same mould and as Prof. Dumbledore has such a large beard, you'd hardly know the difference. I'll be going to a preview on 10 Nov, so I'll let you know how it goes. You all know the story anyway, so I won't be giving anything away.

 LOL!! i was at one time a member of that club...but i wanted to watch the movie to see what all the fuss was about. so over the summer i rented it, and immediately fell in love! didn't care to much about reading the books after becoming a fan of the movie, but once school started, i stopped by the library and picked up a copy. took me a while to read the first one, but i read the second one in exactly one week and a day. i'm looking so forward to the second one, even though i think the first was better.

did any one see Oprah's harry potter special today? it had some great footage of chamber of secrets! made me even more excited about it! and besides that, daniel radcliffe is just too cute!! :D

See, this is how little I get out - I had not heard of this sad news...:(

As far as someone to follow in Richard Harris's footsteps, I have to go with Ian Mckellen

was reading the sun newspaper and on page 3 they had an article saying that christopher lee has been approached to play the part of albus dumledore.

Also the fifth book is due out some time next year. Rumors had that i would be out in the spring and then it went to winter time. But i wrote a letter to the publishing company and they said expect the book out in the first half of 2003.

I also wonder who will they get to play remus lupin(my favourite Person in all the books)

It will be difficult to fills the role left vacant with the passing of Richard Harris. Sir Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee and Peter O'Toole have been rumored to be approached to take over. Also, rumors have mentioned that the body double they used for Richard on the film be given the role.

And Patrick Stewart's name has been mentioned in fan circles along with another name that has come up among the sci-fi/fantasy genre fans: Tom Baker, who is mainly known for his portrayal of the Fourth Doctor from "Doctor Who" as well as having been cast in an early 70's Sinbad film, as Sherlock Holmes in the early 80's rendition of Hound of the Baskervilles and playing the Elven Elder in the film "Dungeons and Dragons" to name a few...

The producers and casting teams have quite a challenge on their hands with this one.
