I take it you've never seen a traditional UK pantomime either, where the Dame is always played by a man? Not to mention sometimes a leading man is played by a woman.

Back in Shakespeare's time, women weren't allowed to act on stage. All roles were played by men.

The OP is trying to make a point that while there are bad show elements today, there really always have been. And one has to remember that not everyone notices a lot of the bad things. Some people here seem to go looking for them on their trips, and that is just sad to me, as you cannot possibly enjoy a vacation if all you're looking for is what is wrong with anything.
