Any 40th Anniversary Rumors?

So I'm planning a trip in the October timeframe and trying to figure out dates and decide if being at Magic Kingdom on October 1st is a must in your opinion.

Has anyone heard if anything special is happening at the park that day or have any experience being in the parks during any other significant anniversaries at WDW?

Thanks!

I am sorry to say - haven't heard a single rumor.

I personally wouldn't put money down on anything spectacular happening. If it happens to work out that you can come then, I would go for it, but as of right now, it seems like it will be just business as usual...

There will be a small ceremony and of course, a lot of people will be there for the occassion. But as for anything major, no.

40th-branded merchandise seems to be the only recognition of this anniversary. There will probably be a small (re-dedication?) ceremony at MK on October 1st but nothing major or worth going out of your way for.

There will be fan gatherings present...so it will be festive if you happen to bump into them.

I would like to think something will take place...even small scale. I am thinking however that WDW is going to keep things low key and save the big splash for the 50th.

Heck...what is waiting 10 more years? By then, the Park will have oodles of new attractions to promote under the '50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World' banner. If they go ahead and have a big shabang NOW...what do they have to promote really?

I think a big part of the reason for the low key 'Anniversary' vibe this year is for those two main reasons...

Nothing new that is a major attraction, and sitting on the bank account until the big 50th.

Of course....if we had another 'fan uprising' and created a stir...well, you know how that all went over at Epcot a few years ago....

:)

Is 40 really that big of a deal, though? Just because it ends in a zero doesn't make it significant.

Yeah. My wife didn't think her 40th birthday was important. And my mom didn't think her 40th anniversary was important. :lookaroun

Yeah, not that Disney doesn't care about 40 years, just that celebrating it is pointless, 10 years down the road they'll deffinitely show more appreciation.

Of course why would wdw care about 40 years, not like disneyland did, they had indiana jones open that year, a huge promotion back in 95, they almost cared back then, heck they even had TWO disneyana conventions in 95. one mini event to help kick off disneylands 40th, then the regular one in the fall at wdw. again wdw gets the shaft, just give us some crappy global generic both coasts marketing campaign that no one really cares about :hurl:

Star Tours is kinda a big deal...

Maybe a restored Tiki Room will be part of the celebration?

I personally think that the birthday/anniversary celebrations are pretty much done with. For WDW anyways. I think they tried them out for promotional purposes in the 90's, and probably didn't come off as profitable as they thought. I am not expecting anything spectacular for the 40th, and I really don't think anything is being planned or in the works for the 50th either. By the time WDW's 50th rolls around, most people will have forgotten that birthdays/anniversaries were ever a big celebration at the resort.... And those who do remember - well, we won't be in Disney's targeted demo anymore.

The Food and Wine Festival will have just started the day before at Epcot so it might be a little more crowded than the following two weeks.

whatever happens on that day i will be there in the evening anyways cos its my Mothers 50th Birthday on October 1st and will be going to California Grill to watch Wishes. If anyone else is going between 24th Sept and 7th October i will see you there!!

I don't know about that... Disneyland's extremely popular 50th anniversary celebration is often considered to be singularly responsible for the resort's turnaround from its slump of the late 1990s/early 2000s. I don't think it's the number or the anniversary that makes the celebration financially successful or not - it's the spectacle and the event Disney chooses to make of it. I doubt guests showed up in droves on every day of the 2-year 50th anniversary celebration just because they wanted to be at Disneyland sometime within a year around the 50th anniversary of the park's opening. I think it's more likely they were there for the brand new, spectacular fireworks show, a parade which is widely considered one of the best the American parks have ever seen, the reopening of their long-dormant Tiki Room, the new and redesigned Tomorrowland, including the complete refurb of Space Mountain, and just the general park-wide refurbishments and attention the park was getting everywhere. In other words, Disney chose to make a spectacle of an event which they easily could have chosen to ignore, and guests flooded in to see it. I'm guessing WDW could easily do the same if they cared to.
