Well I sure appreciated the helpful advice but my wife and I have another Question for all the experts out there: With Sept. (when were planning on going) being hurricane season, should we let that affect if we move our dates of our trip around? Like maybe switching our trip to October. Not that we would want put off the trip for another month! Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Not really. Just plan to go. Hurricane Season lasts through all of Oct. anyway.

As Bill has said, Hurricane season lasts until Nov. 1st.

That being said, The last two weeks in September are historically the busiest in the Atlantic Basin, meaning there most likely will be a named storm or two during that period. But it could be in the middle of the Atlantic, it could be in the gulf aiming for Louisiana, anywhere.

Since I am going in September myself, I will be sure to install a big Blue H right on top of Orlando from Sept 17-27:lol:

Don't worry about it. By the time it gets to Orlando it shouldn't be THAT bad!:drevil:

Plus, usually South Florida(me!:brick: )gets hit before Central Florida does.

Be Prepared

Weather is always a gamble in Florida. I personally prefer October as the chance of a major storm is reduced, but with that said we did have a small hurricane (tropical storm by the time it got to Orlando) for one day...the next day was the most beautiful you could imagine.

Just bring your poncho (non yellow) :animwink: and enjoy rain or shine.

So right let me get this right!

Sept 25 to Oct 9th (our dates) are in hurricane season! You got me all worried now guys!

What does this entail in the Orlando area? How bad? How much rain etc.? and for how long? And what is the likelyhood of a named hurricane?

I have lived in Orlando for 7 years, and we have had a few hurricanes...but honestly, they are few and far between.

Disney has closed 2 or 3 times, but only for 1 day, and on the worst day, it is jsut a bit windy and it rains on and off. The highest substained winds were during Floyd, and were around 60mph...not too bad.

Don't worry about it...it is a great time to come to orlando, as the weather is great and the parks are empty.

Don't sweat it

With very few exceptions, even if a hurricane (or remnant) reaches Orlando, it amounts to a 2-4 hour thunderstorm with sustained winds. Ultimately no worse than dealing with the thunderstorms ALL summer. Don't sweat it, it's one of the best times of the year to visit.

I have lived in South Florida all my life. I have only seen a couple of Hurricanes and many scares of Hurricanes. I lived through Hurricane Andrew in 1992. That was a major Hurricane. But, most of the other storms that hit Florida were very tame (Category 1 or 2.) By the time it hits Disney, the winds are reduced, but still might have alot of rain.

Last year, we had no name storms hit Florida, and no scares of Hurricanes. Don't worry about them, and have fun in Disney in September. Did I mention there are no crowds in Disney during September?
