Another generation: Magic Kingdom (my way)

Yes, Pinocchio will sing "I've Got No Strings".

Anyway, I need a little help with one scene: instead of Monstro lunging at you as at Disneyland, there is now a scene inside Monstro. You enter the whale through his mouth, like Storybook Land:
11012472993_968af92eda_z.jpg

You would then go into the whale's stomach where you see Pinocchio and Geppetto planning to escape by building a fire. I'm trying to figure out how best to show the escape. Any ideas?

Before Exiting the Scene Where Pinoc and His Father inside Monstro's Stomach, The Sneezing of Monstro Blow Guests Away with the Cart Going Backwards (Similar to Heffalump and Woozle Scene at TDL Version of Pooh Ride)

Okay, but how can the sneeze be shown emerging from the mouth? The only thing I could think of is something like the climax of the Nemo version of the Submarine Voyage, in which the sub is somehow swallowed by a whale, but that's it.

Maybe the Smoke Effect or Fog Effect Could be Used as Monstro's Sneezing.

Okay, when I said emerging from the mouth, I meant how do you get out? You can't just come out of that scene the same way you go in.

It Could Go to a Different Room after Emerging from the Mouth into the Sandy Beach where Geppetto Shouted "Pinocchio" when He Thought that He's Gone.

But how do you emerge from the mouth is my question? Do you go out the same mouth you came in? That might mean catching another car going in.

Anyway, here's the first part of the new dark ride: The Adventures of Pinocchio!

Encompassing a small subsection of what was once Tomorrowland (Cosmic Ray's) and the Speedway, it now features a relocated Pinocchio's Village Haus and two new attractions, a swing ride themed to a new toy by Geppetto and a giant dark ride in the tradition of Pooh's Hunny Hunt.

For the new ride, you enter what looks like Geppetto's Workshop (a separate entrance for the swing is located nearby and enclosed, too!). It resembles the entrance to a store at Disneyland (complete with small puppets of Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket in the main window):
la-bottega-di-geppetto-1.jpg

However, they are somewhat larger, with the usual alternate Fastpass+ and Stand-By entrances. The queues wander into Geppetto's workshop, which resembles the closing scene of the original Pinocchio ride, with lots of clocks, toys and music boxes around:
DSC_0516.JPG

In keeping with the uptick in interactivities in attraction queues, however, you can push a button on a music box and it will play a tune, as it does in the movie! Or you can dial a clock's hands around and watch it come to life!

Soon, you reach a load area where small cars, resembling toys carved by Geppetto, will take you into the world of Pinocchio. These cars depart in batches of two each, each car holding four passengers. All the while, you hear Jiminy Cricket providing the safety spiel.

Once inside your toy-like car, you head forward into a dark room and come upon a lifeless puppet - Pinocchio - is seated on a workbench. As you approach, you hear (but don't see) Geppetto saying, "Star light, star bright, make my wish come true tonight. I wish that my little Pinocchio might be a real boy." Then you stop before the bench as a Pepper's Ghost effect of the Blue Fairy appears as she bring Pinocchio to life while saying, "Little puppet made of pine... wake!" Pinocchio moves and says, "I can move! I can talk!" The Blue Fairy adds, "Prove yourself brave, truthful and unselfish, and someday you'll be a real boy." She turns to Jiminy Cricket standing nearby and says, "Mr. Cricket, I dub thee Pinocchio's conscience." Then she disappears.

Your car leaves the area and travels through the room as you see Jiminy dancing across several shelves, disappearing behind one object and appearing from behind another on a different shelf, while he sings "Give a Little Whistle", while Pinocchio watches in amazement.

You head for the front door as Geppetto exclaims, "It's my wish come true! Pinocchio's alive! But now you've got to go to school." Then you leave the room and head out the now-open front door.

Here, you see Pinocchio (with books in one hand and an apple in the other) being enticed by J. Worthington Foulfellow and Gideon, similar to how it is presented on the ride mural at Disneyland (but without the Coachman, for obvious reasons):

As the two rogues escort Pinocchio toward the theater, singing all the way, Jiminy appears again and calls out in protest, "Wait, Pinocch! You can't go with those ill winds in cheap clothing! You can't be an actor! You've got to go to school!" But this has no effect as you approach the entrance to the theater...

That's all for now! In the meantime, how can we escape from Monstro's mouth without going out the same mouth we go in?

Maybe you could, when Monstroro sneezes, have the cars spin to have the illusion of going back the way you came, and then exit out of a completely different mouth.

Maybe do something similar to what they do in Expedition Everest, so have two hallways next to each other. One from which you'll enter and one from which you'll exit into the next scene.

You then enter the puppet theater. First, puppet trumpeters play a quick fanfare, then they disappear as a curtain opens to reveal Pinocchio on stage singing "I've Got No Strings". Your car pauses briefly for the show. He sings a line or two of the song, then is joined by the Dutch and French puppets...
4050372887_6a09d04ae2_z.jpg

...for a brief version of the climax of the song before he sings, "There are no strings on me!" one last time.

You then head off to the sound of applause. But as you leave, you hear Stromboli laughing sadistically as he bellows, "You will never get away from Stromboli now!" You then enter the backstage of the theater, similar to other versions out there:
3497684600_4867f10f75_z.jpg

Here, other puppets are imprisoned in cages, Pinocchio especially, in a bird cage, as Stromboli leers at him menacingly while saying, "This will be your new home, my little wooden gold mine!" You hear Pinocchio call out for help as you leave the area. As you approach what looks like another, gigantic birdcage, you hear the Blue Fairy say, "This is the last time I can help you, Pinocchio." This giant cage glows brightly and a hidden door opens, indicating the way out.

Heading down a cobblestone street, you see Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket heading along eagerly. Jiminy says, "This is your last chance, son." Pinocchio says, "I'll make good this time."

Then you come across a fork in the road. But Foulfellow and Gideon are standing beside it. It looks they've been messing with the directional signs. One points the way to Geppetto's Workshop and the other points the way to Pleasure Island. From the way the signs are pointing, you (and by extension, Pinocchio) seem headed in the right direction, but then the fox laughs uproariously while the cat hiccups. Jiminy calls out, "Wait! You're going the wrong way!"; it seems you are now crossing a stone bridge over some water, towards Pleasure Island...

Continuing on, you now head into Pleasure Island. Here, it is similar to other versions out there: you wend through the area, full of carnival attractions, themed to sweets and such, while "Hi-Diddle-Dee-Dee" plays in the background:
pinocchios-daring-journey-disneyland.jpg

Here, too, the two cars break off briefly to independently travel past scenes to be seen, such as a candy cane Ferris wheel and a lollipop-themed merry-go-round. In the center, you see a literal soda fountain; that is, a fountain that spouts soda. And rising in the background is an ice cream mountain down which lemonade cascades. In the foreground, roller coaster tracks crisscross. In the sky, fireworks explode. One car travels through a gingerbread house, another below a tree adorned with donuts. One car passes by a giant box of popcorn, another a giant candy apple with a green worm popping its head out.

Finally, the two cars re-meet to go past Foulfellow and Gideon playing a hi-striker game (or at least, try to) and the Rough House, in front of which a figure of a tough guy wearing a derby and wielding a club entices boys to come in and pick a fight, only to split up one more time. One car goes off down Tobacco Row, where wooden Indians stand at the ready to toss out cigars. On the ground, the road is paved as a giant strip of chewing tobacco. Meanwhile, the second car heads briefly through the Model Home, open for destruction. A giant stained glass window had been shattered completely and inside, furniture is wrecked, mud tracks crisscross everywhere and the Mona Lisa is hanging at a cockeyed angle and is wearing a mustache besides.

Finally, the cars get back together again to head into the Pool Hall shaped like a giant 8-ball. Here, the truth about Pleasure Island hits, as Lampwick starts turning into a donkey before the terrified eyes of Pinocchio. Meanwhile, the Coachman stands menacingly off to the side and says, "So, you blokes choose the early life, do ya?"

Leaving the Pool Hall, you see donkeys in crates, some wearing boys' clothing and either braying a melancholy bray or crying, "Mama!" and "I wanna go home!" while the Coachman says, "You boys have had your fun!" Meanwhile, Jiminy point the way out of Pleasure Island as he cries, "We gotta get outta here, before it's too late!" Just then, you come face-to-face with the Coachman again as he tries to pull open the door to a giant crate labeled "To the salt mines", while saying, "Don't leave yet!" Somehow, you manage to slip by, and you come across a stormy sea, which is occasionally illuminated by flashes of ligthning. Here, Jiminy stands on a sign reading, "Beware of Monstro, the Terror of the Deep!", while the cricket himself warns, "Watch out for Monstro! Nothing escapes from him!"

You head forward into darkness, where you hear an unearthly roar. One last flash of lightning reveals that you're approaching the huge gaping maw of a whale...

Is it odd that in the film the Blue Fairy said it would be her last time helping him yet she helps him again of finding Gepetto by giving Pinocchio a letter about Gepetto being in Monstro?

Probably. If it's any comfort, it bothered Ward Kimball, too.

Anyway, now for the conclusion of The Adventures of Pinocchio...

You head down the throat of Monstro the whale, where the wreckage of boats litter the area:
Monstro_-_Mouth_%28Art%29.png

You see Pinocchio and Geppetto on the boat, contemplating their predicament. Pinocchio proposes a way to escape from Monstro by building a fire so the great whale sneezes. You pass by an effect of Pinocchio building a fire (it's a shadow effect, backlit by the fire). The room then rumbles and shakes, simulating an upcoming sneeze, as you then approach Pinocchio and Geppetto on a raft. Your cars rotate around the raft as the room goes dark. Suddenly, the cars turn backwards, as if to go back the way you came, and then exit out of the whale's mouth. It is similar to Expedition Everest, with two hallways next to each other. To enhance the effect, you see a projection of Pinocchio and Geppetto on the raft blasting out with you.

You blast out onto a sandy shore. The rest of the ride then follows the remainder of the ride as at Disneyland: you see Jiminy floating down on an umbrella as he says, "We're almost there now!" as you wend your way through the starlit village back towards Geppetto's Workshop with the Wishing Star shining in the sky. You then enter the workshop, where you see Pinocchio seated on the bed with Geppetto standing beside it, and Figaro and Cleo behind him. The Blue Fairy, in a special Pepper's Ghost effect, turns Pinocchio from a puppet into a real boy, much to the delight of all in the room. Geppetto exclaims, "Pinocchio! You're real!" "Gee, father!" Pinocchio cries with excitement. Finally, you see Jiminy standing by with a huge "Official Conscience" medal on his shirt while he says, "Gee, thanks, Miss Fairy..." And with that, as "When You Wish Upon a Star" plays, you return to the load area and disembark.

And so ends WDW's Magic Kingdom's new attraction "The Adventures of Pinocchio"!

Before I continue on, I would like to backtrack a bit...

I'm thinking of doing something for Small World. With the Pinocchio restaurant being relocated, that clears out some space for a slight expansion. I'm also thinking of scrapping the boat system used at the ride today. Instead, it will now go with a new system recently patented by Disney: a line of boats all attached together and endlessly moving, like the old Omnimover system. It is rumored that it may be used for Shanghai Disneyland's Pirates, but it's nowhere near certain. Here's a plan for the ride with the system in action:
omnimover-patent-overview.png

According to an article on it from Disney and More...

This new patent describes the same principle, applied to boats, all linked together as you can see on the patent drawing above, and "not guided by and do not contact nearby sidewalls" at least for a part of the ride. The patent description mentions too a wave machine which could be used to propel the boats. Also mentioned in the description: "in the open bay or free-floating portion, the boats or vehicles may even be caused to traverse overland or out of water by placing ramps in the path of boats and providing pads or rollers/wheels on the bottom of the boat hulls/bodies", which for sure could make a very unique boat ride like you've never seen before.

The article argues that this system would not really work with a flume in the ride, without which the ride would not be as much fun. But if the boats are not really attached all together then it might be possible.

Anyway, I'm thinking of applying this to Small World. It will be housed in a more rustic version of the Small World palace, all carved out of wood. And there will be a slim storyline in that you are following in the footsteps of a man named Sir Walter Traverse, one of the first men to really travel the world (he idolizes Magellan). He is yet another member of the Society of Explorers and Adventurers, making Traverse the second member of this group to be referenced in the Magic Kingdom, after Barnabas T. Bullion at Big Thunder.

One thing that's bothering me right now is Storybook Circus. Here's a mockup of a fan's idea for improving the Magic Kingdom:
Blog%2B-%2BWDW%2BMK%2B2016.PNG

I was thinking of having the land be home to Mickey's Madcap Circus in spite of the new land coming over to part of the Rivers of America, which is to be about Mickey and the gang. But the only ideal spot for Madcap Circus has been taken over by the Pinocchio subsection. I wanted to make Storybook Circus its own land, separate from Fantasyland. But there's really not a lot there to make that worthwhile; a Dumbo ride and a Goofini coaster can do only so much.

In one article on Passport 2 Dreams, http://passport2dreams.blogspot.com/2015/08/ten-big-design-blunders-at-magic-kingdom.html, one of the blunders in question was Mickey's Birthdayland/Starland, and more to the point, those "temporary" tents it provided, which remained from Birthdayland/Starland to Toontown Fair to Storybook Circus for shopping and meet-n-greets due to their alleged profitability. Here's exactly what the article said:

By 2001 the Toontown tent complex had become the single most profitable structure per square foot at Magic Kingdom. Mickey was the anchor, pulling crowds into Toontown, then dispersing them through a variety of shops and photograph locations. This profitability would ensure that the tents would survive yet another round of renovations: Storybook Circus.

Storybook Circus managed the impossible, which was to turn an area of Magic Kingdom which had no business ever existing into something which feels like it belongs there. It accomplished this by leveling everything and starting over. Of course, before this could be done, the cash cows - Mickey and the Princesses - had to be relocated to Main Street, where Mickey received a much more appropriate attraction and the Princesses didn't. They would have to wait for their own lavish attraction, which would displace the Snow White's Scary Adventures dark ride.

Despite the fact that the reasons for the success of those tents were being scattered to the winds, it was proclaimed by fiat that the tents must remain due to their profitability. What had previously been the Princess Tent was transformed into Pete's Silly Sideshow, a permanent venue for Mickey, Donald, Minnie and Daisy with a nicely done circus theme. The crowds never quite returned to their original levels. What had previously been a bustling store where Princess dresses and Mickey dolls flew off the shelves now seems nearly abandoned after nightfall. The Sideshow meet and greet has started closing early.

[...]

Now that the power of the circus tents is on the wane, it really would be a nice gesture to finally lose them and build a permanent ride in that spot. The three Storybook Circus tents take up about as much room as the Mermaid ride next door. The basic problem is that the use of tents, no matter how nicely you build them or how intricately you theme them, still evoke temporary structures and, by extension, cheapness.

The big problem with removing the tents is that there would be no room for them to have a dark ride and still have room for a shop, which was the main reason why the tents were retained in the first place. I was originally thinking of retaining these tents and replacing Mickey's close gang with other, lesser-known characters to be put in the area, such as Ludwig Von Drake and Horace Horsecollar. But if what the article said is true, and the tents are waning, then it makes no sense. And besides, the article said that the tents were there permanently, which I take to mean as they're unremovable. I don't think it's really feasible to pack in all those acts seen on the posters throughout the area, and then some, and still retain the scenes for Minnie, Donald, Daisy and Goofy. That was the main reason I was thinking of keeping the meet-n-greet and have the dark ride, until now, so we can spread them out a little.

Any thoughts about how to go about dealing with the problem of the tents in this area?
