The story in GOTG is completely irrelevant as soon as the elevator shoots you up. You re just seeing familiar characters doing apparently “entertaining” things for a few seconds at a time to the sound of 1of 6 oldie songs. The brain isn’t processing any sort of story. The on ride story and show scenes have been way downgraded to TV screens that do nothing to make me buy the illusion of the Guardians action taking place in front of me in a 2D environment. The thrill is still there obviously and there is a lot more air time but with less suspenseful drops (except for the new initial launch).
Except there were scenes before the drops. And there were no scenes on the drops because it was a 1940s elevator so it would make 0 sense if there were screens.FWIW, when I rode Mission Breakout last week I saw lots of people (kids and adults) quoting both the Collector and Rocket in the library the same way people annoyingly recite the Ghost Host's spiel in the stretching room. And almost everyone, nearly a year after it opened, was still totally into putting their hands up for the various hand scans and totally going along with the story.
Also, don't forget -- those 'show scenes' with the screens used to not even be part of the attraction once you started dropping. There was no visual experience with the dropping whatsoever. The scenes for ToT were almost exclusively pre-show/setup, even once on-ride. Once the thrills came, we had nada.
At the very least, a different experience from any other Disney park in the world.
An additional reason it's viewed so negatively is because it's going to keep people in constant suspense for the future of Florida's ToT for the rest of time probably.
Something tells me that a Doctor Strange overlay for Florida's ToT would be amazing. Think about the magic that could be interjected into the ride. The building becomes Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum. We could see all kinds of Marvel exhibits stored there. A cool magic gate could replace the elevator's door.
The random drop sequences objectively make MB a better ride.
You can argue theming but DCA's TOT was always the red-headed stepchild of all the Towers. That will be its legacy.

If you add the 10 don't cares to the Mission Breakout option you will see total number that like or don't care is larger than those wanting the old theme back.

Personally I would nuke the ride from orbit but that's just me.
Why would there be? There was no alternate theme presented to discuss. To the ride's credit, this wouldn't be a discussion if a reskin was never brought to the table. I don't remember anybody (outside of "it's not DHS version") saying ToT needed to be changed before M:B was brought to the table.
