Wondering.....Is it possible to book a July resort reservation using passholder rate..without actually having a pass, BUT will purchase before vacationing?

If you don't have a pass or even a voucher yet, it's quite possible that you can go ahead and make a non-discounted reservation now, and then when you do have your pass or voucher you can call and simply ask them to adjust your reservation to whatever the discounted rate would be.

I haven't had experience with your exact situation, but there have been times I reserved rooms before specials or discounted rates kicked-in, and then simply called reservations once the discounts and specials were posted and they applied the difference to my reservation.

Good luck and have a great trip!

We just became annual passholders in 2012 and that is exactly what we did. I had the voucher and was able to see the passholder rates and book through the website at that rate. All I was required to do was to show my AP at the front desk sometime during my stay. When we checked in we still had to exchange our vouchers (which you do at a park or DTD).

Last year we booked past the current passholder rate window. When the new passholder rate came out for the second half of our trip I just called Disney and they gave me the passholder rate for that portion as well.

Very definitely because we did the same. It is possible to do the reservation before the purchase, you even can already check-in at the resort before you purchase the AP, however you have to show it to the CMs at front desk as fast as possible.

I book annual passholder all the time. Sometimes I already have the pass, some times just had a voucher or haven't even bought the new one yet. Reserved over the phone. I have never even been asked to show it at check in! Would never use the discount without having a pass though.

Also keep in mind that you can book the current discount offer for July for a room only reservation, and then switch over to the AP discount if it is better if that is released for your travel dates. Lately the Public discounts have been coming out in advance of the Annual Pass discounts and are very close in terms of discount amount. Marie

I'm trying to understand how the annual pass works.

Does your annual pass year start from the date you purchase it, the point you use your voucher to do something like book rooms at a discounted rate, or is it activated when you arrive at the parks? I just want to make sure I understand, so I know how long it will be active.

I am planning a trip in November to run the Wine and Dine 1/2 marathon, then potentially in January to do the Dopey challenge, and my friends have talked about a Fall 2015 trip so I am thinking it might be worth the money if it would be active through all three. The room discount alone would be extremely helpful!

If you purchase online, you'll get a voucher. Your year starts the day you use the voucher to get an actual AP at the parks/DTD.

You can use the voucher to access AP discounted room bookings before you get there, that does not start your one-year clock.

Leaf, Also be sure to check out ALL Of the discount options. It is true you can only select one at a time, but if the General Public offer comes out before the Annual Pass offer, dont by pass it because it wasnt the one you were looking for. Also I know the Marathons do have special discounted rooms at certain resort properties specially earmarked for those events. Have a great time and welcome to the AP club!!! Marie

The first time I booked a room with the AP discount I already had a room only reservation. I called had them book me the AP rate. I picked up my AP two days prior to check in (I drove over from a conference in Tampa to pick up the pass and see some sights) and they did not ask me for it when I checked in. I didn't even think about it until we were getting ready to leave. So they might not always ask, but I would not want to chance it.

Thanks so much for the info, everyone! I think I understand how it works now. I'll wait to see if I'm really going to both races or if other offers are better, but it really helps to know it is activated when you get to the parks. Thanks again :)!

Keep in mind that the room discounts offered through runDisney are usually in the 5-10% range. Not much different than what you would get with a AAA member discount through CRO. The big savings for the runDisney events come from the heavily discounted tickets that they sell. However, these are typically only for the non January races, are non upgradable/transferable and need to be used with 14 days of the event date. So the AP may work out better. However, doing 3 trips in a year, the tickets alone should make it an easy decision, and any savings from a room discount are just icing on the cake.
