they generally go up in price, but there have been a few years that they stayed the same. And you usually get a price break on renewals... I wanna say maybe $100 off

If you go about twice a year and spend about 7 to 10 days in the parks is the Annual Pass the way to go? I'm a DVC member and I hear there are some nice discounts on APs. I just wanted to know if anyone has done this.

Yes, Yes and Yes again!!! I think my AP was the best investment I have ever made. My renewal rate has been about $400.00 a year. In 2004 I was in one theme park or another for 24 days!!! (over the course of a bunch of trips) so for me it was well worth the cost. I have every intention of renewing my AP when my notice comes!! Belle

I don't know about DVC discounts, or the new pricing scheme. But when last I checked the break even point was about Eight days (not including savings on parking and other discounts open to AP holders). The renewal discount was not much (I think about $25, but I have no facts to back this up with).

The price break depends on the type of annual pass you get. We get the seasonal passes and the discount was only a few bucks to renew. However this year the price break was nearly $30.

I am a DVC member, always buy the annual pass and the price break for DVC members does not go into effect until 1/2/05.

So would the DVC discount make the price for DVC members $197.14? Or is it $100 off of $403.64?

As usual, Belle and I agree with few exceptions.

I live pretty far away, but with the AP taking care of admission, a WDW mini-vacation is actually doable. I'm going the end of this week for four nights/five days and I am spending about $320 for the trip, including airfare. That includes everything but food. And with the AP, I can spend partial days (first/last) in the parks without wasting admission. The new MYW passes will help everyone do that, thankfully - but with an AP even only spending an hour in the park one day doesn't induce any guilt.

However, I likely won't auto-renew like Belle. I have a trip planned the begining of October, and my AP will expire after that trip (I bought it in late October). By then, I'll have been up there in the 20+ days in park like Belle, making it more than worth it (even without the discounts), but my next trip after that won't be until at least January 2006. Because of that, I'd rather loose the $40 discount on my renewal instead of wasting the three months of admission since I won't be back that quickly. When I do return after that in Jan 2006, I will definately be buying one again.

Apparently, up until a few years ago when you renewed you got a voucher that you didn't activate until you came down - so your pass didn't start until you began your next trip. If it worked that way, of course I'd always renew - but under the current system it can be smarter to just loose the discount and repurchase a new one depending on the timing of your trips.

I absolutely agree with you!!! I am just being really bad and do have trips planned for not too long after my pass expires ( Pass expires Feb 28th, I have a trip bookd for March, planned for May, planned for December and possibly Oct/Nov for the Food & Wine thing) This is absolutely why I will just automatically renew, otherwise I would probably do what you do and buy a new pass on my next trip if it was that far away!!! Hey - they aren't that far away. :P

You're making me feel inadequate. :)

Hehe, seriously. I'm going every third month at this point, which means I'll get five trips on this pass - last October, this January, April, a quick trip in June for Soarin', (avoiding July/August) and then October again. But with that gap between October and January 2006, it's gonna work out best this way for me.

Like everything at WDW, it just depends on how you do it if it works for you. :) But I know we both totally agree - AP's are the way to go if you can afford it and use it enough to make it worthwhile. Just the room discounts make it worth it for me - the other dining and even the new admission discounts are just the icing on the cake.

I usually go on a Disney trips once per year. I like the AP because I'm usually there for 9-10 days. The great part of this is the next year I go two weeks earlier so I can use the same anual pass.

Basically, I buy a new AP every two years instead of renewing.

The prices above have been increased effective 1/2/05. Example, the annual pass is now $420.00 +/-. This is according to Mouse Savers.

I do NOT auto-renew my annual pass because auto-renewals are effective immediately and, since I live out of state, I don't return to WDW for 11 months. Depending on how often you visit, auto-renewal may not be the most economical way to go. Why pay for months you know you won't be there? If I'm not mistaken, the discount for auto-renewal use to be about 10% and was a bargain because they USE to be activated on the first day of use, but no more...they are effective immediately...so please keep that in mind.

I plan two full vacations with my AP by arranging them within a one year time slot. If I purchase an AP in August 2005 and visit for 3 weeks, next year I'll visit in July 2006 for 3 weeks, getting a full 6 weeks from the pass. If I visit any other time during that time slot, that's an even bigger bonus.
