Yeah I put it above FJ.... granted if you like set based rides obviously FJ will always be better. But from an unbiased look based off the innovation and the feel yeah I enjoy it better. But than again....its still a simulator.

I haven't experienced FoP, so take this with a grain of salt... but I think a "problem" with FJ is that the illusion of flying on the bench experiencing everything isn't that convincing. I mean, it's a fantastic ride and I love it, but I don't really feel like it's "real". I would contrast it to Spider-Man, which does a more convincing job of making you feel like you really are in the first person experiencing what the ride is showing you.

The enthusiasm for FoP seems at least partially to be regarding how convincing of an experience it is in making you feel like you are "truly" flying on a banshee. If it pulls off the illusion as well as people suggest, then I think you could argue that it is "greater" is some regards than FJ.

Agreed with this.

I really liked FJ. I was spoiler free riding it and it slightly terrified me going practically upwards, but it's a great ride. I wasn't loving the screens part. I'd actually prefer it to be 3D. I found the screens a bit blurry. It really is a great ride though. I'd have to say though I liked Gringotts more and I know that's not a popular opinion.

It does sound like FOP really immerses you. I guess, hopefully, I'll see on Thursday.

Any thoughts on FoP's animation quality? Does it look realistic, or really CGI?
On another note, I'm a little sad that it's a 3D experience. I wear glasses, no contacts, and it's always tough to fit a second par over them. But that's obviously on me, not them. But it's also the same reason I don't go to feature length 3D films. Now Muppets isn't too bad, and nothing is keeping me off Star Tours, but it's usually a roll of the dice whether or not I end up with a headache after.

Here's my take on it: Gringotts is what happens when you make a movie that literally follows the beats of the novel it's based on. What works on paper does not always work cinematically, and a step by step description of Gringotts sounds GREAT on paper. All Gringotts needed to do was to be the wild rollercoaster through the vaults that everyone assumed it was going to be before the story police got ahold of it. Sure, it needed to be family friendly, but sitting in front of 3D screens listening to minor characters yell about the events of a movie is not how you do a family rollercoaster.

Forbidden Journey, on the other hand, makes NO sense Storywise (How can muggles see dementors? Why is Ron on the quidditch team if the land is set during the fourth book? How do we fall into the chamber of secrets from the quidditch pitch? Why is the chamber of secrets literally in the forbidden forest at the end of the ride?), yet it CONSISTENTLY gets higher ratings from guests than its younger sibling, and I think that's because the experience is more cinematic. There's a rise and fall to the actions that the guests experience, visual moments, rather than plot points, that build upon each other to lead into the next scene.

Flight of Passage is like Forbidden Journey in that the plot stops the moment the ride begins, and the experience of exploring, rather than observing, begins. To describe the ride makes it sound convoluted and dumb (see Forbidden Journey above), but that doesn't matter, because it doesn't need to make sense on paper. It makes sense as a rider, with each moment leading to the next.

I give Flight of Passage the edge over FJ (and it's why I prefer Spider-Man to FJ as well) because it is, essentially, a single-shot ride. Spider-Man takes you from the city to the warehouse back to the city to the rooftops; as a guest, you experience the transitions, whereas on FJ you are either "dropped" into the next scene abruptly (whomping willow to chamber) or the medium is completely switched from set-based to screen based. This makes the ride feel like a patched-together series of experiences, rather than one J
journey (for lack of a better word).

To the question of groundbreaking, both FJ and FoP are new and improved versions of their predecessors. FJ is an omnivover on steroids. Flight is a simulator on steroids. Your mileage may vary depending on which you prefer for a thrill ride, which I'd categorize both rides as. Personally, I think they were both the best uses of their ride systems for what the designers were trying to accomplish, but I prefer Flight mainly because I feel that FJ's blending of screens and sets is nonexistent, which leads to jarring transitions that make me go, "Wait, when did we get here?"

Either way you go, they're still in the top five rides at their respective resorts, and both are stunning achievements that their creators should be proud of.

How's the puke factor? My wife can do Gringotts, Kong and Soarin' but can't do Spider-Man, Star Tours, Forbidden Journey or Simpsons.
Tough call based on that... I found it rather tame as did my gf. The movement really isn't all that dramatic. I think if she can handle Gringotts with the drop and spins she'll be ok.

The glasses aren't small at all. They also seemed to fit a bit weird.

When someone says that they've been on FoP and they liked FJ better, sure, I'll give them that... until they start saying FJ is the best ride ever.

Grimgotts is better than FJ. Spider-man is better than Grimgotts. Of course, in my opinion. But if others say, in their opinion, FJ is the best ever... then I can put that opinion in the appropriate category in my brain.

Was anyone able to do this without actually having been able to sign up in the original window? I got an email but the event was full by the time I tried to register. I'm assuming that not everyone who signed up will actually go so is there any way to take an unfilled slot?

They seem to be remaining firm that only those who registered can enter.

I can confirm this as of yesterday. A couple we spoke to for a while tried to get in the last two days and couldn't.

We were the first family in line for the 6-8pm window. I can also confirm that on Saturday that we witnessed a couple of the 'leader' CMs let people in that did not sign up. Actually, the one CM let 3 people in just because they were from the same home town. I would say that around 10 individuals (3 separate groups) were granted access during the last hour of the 3-5 window during the 45 minutes we waited. With that being said, the weather was not good, so maybe attendance was impacted.

Additionally, we spoke to a number of people in the FoP queue who had been in the preview the entire day... The CMs are not doing a full sweep of the land prior to each window opening and many, many people had stayed in the area for the entire day.

It is so hard to sort though this sub forum. Are people liking Pandora?? :)
We were there on Saturday (6-8pm preview). Pandora is amazing; both attractions are outstanding. FoP exceeded our expectations and it honestly the best attraction I have ever experienced.

The attention to detail and immerse theme is top notch, and it fits in perfectly at AK. My only subtle complaint is that the actual area is a little small. Once you see what has been accomplished, you just want more. Cannot wait to go back in June.
