Annoying guests on vacation...Do you say something?

See no offense, but I think what you're doing is wrong. I highly disagree with people who send their family to "hold their spot" in the line while they go off and grab snacks or ride another ride or check out a gift shop...and then catch up later. Either the entire family needs to wait outside the line until EVERYONE is ready to enter the line, or they need to save their little errands and such until after the ride. It's one thing to pull a small child who has ALREADY BEEN WAITING IN LINE out out of the queue for 5 minutes for a potty emergency, and then allow them to pick up their original spot in line. That does not affect the wait times of anyone behind them. It's another thing altogether to send half your party into the queue for a head start while the other half runs off to get snacks. I 100% consider that to be cutting in line because you never established your spot to begin with.

I can't remember how much of a problem this is at WDW, but it drives me crazy at DL. During an average 15 minute wait, I must have 30-40 people from various families playing "catch-up" with the rest of their party, because they were off getting snacks or who knows what. The funny thing is, they NEVER have a small child with them. These are full grown adults who couldn't be bothered to take care of whatever their business may be before they entered the queue. That adds a significant amount of time to MY family's wait...which is unfair.

I see your point...thanks!

Yeah and those 6 foot plus freaks have to put their seven year kid on their shoulders so no one behind can see the parade. :fork:

Sorry, but if I got there before you and my kid can't see, he goes on my shoulders. I'm a 6'3" "freak" and at 260, I'm not likely to be worried what you think.

Not that it'll ever be an issue since he'll soon be as tall or taller than me.

Parades, Parades, Parades, Why is it that some people think that 5min before the parade starts they could just walk right up, and through everyone that has been there for 1/2 hr. or more, and sit on the curb. Everyone wants the best seat, that's why you have to SACRIFICE something to get something. We don't go on one more ride before the parade starts, we get a good spot and we sit are buts down and WAIT!!! We have two kids, they sit, we stand. It gives more curb space for other kids. I have no problem even with someone ASKING if their kids could sit in front of me, as long as mom and dad stay behind. I have to stop. My BP is starting to rise.

Oh my God. This has literally happended to us at every parade we have attended. And every street show. We waited for 45 minutes in blazing heat on BLACK pavement for HSM 2 a couple years ago and had front and center seats as the show started. A man came up and sat his daughter down literally right in front of my kids. I said OH NO and stood up and blocked him away. The little girl started crying and other parents who saw what the guy was trying to pull started telling him to get lost as they had been waiting just as long. He started yelling "you're killing her dreams, you're all killing her dreams". He had to be taken away with the crying kid by a CM. It was ridiculous. If he would have just sat and waited like everyone else.... Our last visit we had a tall guy come and stand right in front of our 5 year old who was sitting on the curb waiting for 30 minutes for the parade. We told him to move. He moved to the side and then had the nerve to keep complaining to the man to his right to move back as he was blocking his photo ops during the parade. OMG, the nerve of people. :brick:True loser.

We were waiting at the train station to watch SpectroMagic for quite a few minutes at the corner railing when a woman comes over and stands right in front of my Grandfather and holds onto the railing with her party following closely with her. My Grandfather says to her "You've got to be kidding me!" And gives her some sort of TDO death stare and she gives him a death stare back but he doesn't move and she finally leaves. I was going through the pictures on my camera mind you during this time :lookaroun

Back in '08, my cousin and friend and I ran into some very obnoxious, rude, and offensive tweens on the Tower of Terror. They screamed through the entire pre-ride (even when they were in line) and were swearing when we got into the elevator. Being hardcore Tower fans, we were ready when they went to take the picture. The girls were behind us, and we strategically covered their faces with some raised arms..

Their response?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the "cut in line" concern...

Cheaters are one thing and official, disciplinary steps may be appropriate, but I have absolutely no problem with a mom and child politely "cutting in line" to catch up with family members (presumably after a potty break), or a Dad (like me) asking to catch up with the rest of the family already in line after taking care of something dads do at WDW (like fetching drinks or ice cream). I'll GLADLY let them in front of me with a smile, and have had others do it for me too! It's one of those intangible pieces of Magic I get when I visit. :)

Please tell me that we're never going to get to a point where we would expel guests from the park for requesting a little consideration. No ride is worth that.

We wait for dad to come with the drink, or mom and child to return from the restroom and we all enter the line together, several of us don't rush ahead to hold a spot for the others. There is never any excuse for rudeness and cutting for whatever reason is just plan rude. That being said, if a line is an hour long and a child has to go use the restroom 30 minutes into the wait then so be it but it's not okay to come catch up because other family members just didn't want to wait for you to potty or get your drink.

What's sad is that it seems like a lot of the approaches to "dealing with" these issues are merely just nothing more than passive aggressive behavior. The above example being one. So you're telling me that you put up with their behavior all throughout the queue and the ride, but you thought you were teaching them a lesson by blocking their faces in the photo?? Makes no sense. I'm sure they continued to behave that way throughout the rest of the day and had no idea that their faces being blocked was in any way connected to their earlier behavior. Wouldn't it have been more effective to just confront them about it early on if it bothered you so much?

I usually try to laugh it off. One time when I was eating at 50's PTC a woman in line ahead of me insisted she had a reservation. The cast member working there couldn't find her name or the number in her party or anything. The women was getting pretty angry and kept saying "well, i made a reservation" in a nasty tone. Another woman working there took my friend and I since we did have a reservation. The lady gave us such a dirty look! We enjoyed our meal and laughed about how crazy the lady was .

Do you, while on vacation, say something to these people bringing unneeded stress while at the Happiest Place On Earth?

Only if they're Brazilian. 99% of the time they'll be too busy clapping and singing at the top of their lungs to hear all the very un-Disney language I'm spewing at them. :ROFLOL:

As opposed to the person standing there smoking next to their kid, giving them both cancer in the process. Yes, I strive to be that cool in life......

Unfortunately, people do not seem to understand what they are doing, or the health of others. The "fake" cough is like a universal sign of someone smoking, usually in a place they should not be, and I think in this day and age, its welcomed by everyone not interested in inhaling cigarette smoke. I applaud people who do it and I will personally make an example out of someone if I see them smoking.

I really hope all Disney properties will be smoke free very soon. They should be, just too many kids.

While I am not a big fan of personal vengeance, I must admit that this story made me laugh with evil delight. Kudos!

It isn't "smoker friendly", you do notice that the "designated smoking areas" are in the worst part of the parks and far away from others, because it is unpleasant. And you can take yourself and your kid out of the situation. If they light one up in line confront them, dont stand there and have a coughing fit, obviously if they are rude enough to light up where they shouldn't, they wont care at all if, like a child, you start having a coughing fit. Stand up to them. If they smoking where they shouldn't call them out. Dont have a coughing fit that makes you look like a fool. I doubt anyone claps for that, and i doubt it does anything to hinder this guys smoking.

Yes we get what you're saying. The thing is, a person that throws a coughing fit doesn't look as foolish as the selfish person that can't go a whole day without smoking, much less the ones that drag their kids with them into the cancer area.

And yeah, I was a smoker so I know what I'm talking about, although I was never a heavy smoker.

They are not always in the worst part of the parks. There's many times I've accidentally found myself standing in one and thought "wow, where am I? It's nice here!" :lookaroun but then after one whiff it was pretty obvious where I was.

I don't usually have a long, drawn out fake coughing fit. Usually a couple "ahems" with some curt glances as a "warning". After a minute or so though, it's not fake coughing anymore. When it starts to truly make me ill that's when I go and grab a cast member to deal with it. It's not my job on vacation to stand up to bad guys...it's theirs. :D

Personally, I would rather listen to a whole queue with a 2 hour wait of people fake coughing than have to deal with one smoker in any queue.

I personally don't find people who do the fake cough annoying. Just throwing it out there.

Which is a shame but they are not my kids, I cant do anything about that. And what im saying is if it is bothering you, stand up, dont be passive aggressive, that wont solve anything. And if someone is smoking in line clearly they are in the wrong so reprimand them, or find a CM. They wont feel sorry for you if your coughing, or looking like a fool. Someone smoking in line would give me a reason to get upset on vacation. But I would try to fix the situation myself, not let others, or my silly gestures "upset" to the point they stop
