News Announced: Mary Poppins Attraction in UK Pavilion

It does. I always ask to be seated in one of the centre gliders and have never been refused.

Too much fuss is made about the bendy buildings; the vast majority of the film shows landscapes that don’t appear distorted. I for one prefer seeing the world to California (though I’ll admit that I find the CGI rowers really unconvincing in the island scene).

Have you actually ever sat on the side then? The film is almost unwatchable if you are on the far sides (which I was both times I saw it). What was once a multiple ride per trip for us is now a once per trip if the standby line isn’t too long (I won’t waste a FP on it).

No doubt the majority of people here agree with you. Meanwhile, I’m with the thousands of plebs—the great unwashed outside this forum—who enjoy the attraction enough to make it one of the most popular in Epcot.
Still a fantastic attraction yes, but there is some validity to what he is saying. You literally need to be front and center for this to not stick out like a sore thumb. Even my wife (who is not WDWMagic member or into the details that I am) mentioned it looked funny.

I have seen it from the side and didn’t find it unwatchable. The two affected scenes—the Taj Mahal and Eiffel Tower—take up a few seconds each.

I don’t understand why you no longer ride it multiple times if the only issue is the lateral view. You can just ask to be seated in one of the central gliders.

The view from any of the central gliders is great, and all you have to do is ask to be seated in one of them.

Again, I realise I’m in the minority in these parts, and I respect the fact that many of you preferred the old film.

I shouldn’t have to be center for a quality product. That’s why I don’t watch it.

By that logic, one should refuse to watch plays and films, since there are always dud seats in any theatre or cinema. At least with Soarin’, one can easily ensure a good view—it just takes a quick request.

I don’t pay for dud seats in a theater either.

But go ahead and keep apologizing for a crap quality film. I don’t recall dud seats in the original film. That’s the point.

A few dud seats is vastly different than 2/3s of the audience getting a lesser experience. They cannot accommodate everybody requesting a center seat. It never should have been deemed acceptable, if they couldn’t get it right they shouldn’t have done it.

Every show at WDW has seats that offer inferior views. That’s why people always ignore CMs’ instructions to move to the end of a row.

Riding the attraction less because you don’t like the film is one thing. But riding it less because you object in principle to the existence of lateral seats that you don’t even have to occupy is just cutting your nose off to spite your face. Given all the things we’re willing to do to improve our experience of WDW—securing FPs, making ADRs, etc.—I should think asking a CM to be seated in the middle is one of the least troublesome.

Finally, I’m not apologising for anything, just making the best of the existing situation. In an ideal world, the distortion wouldn’t occur, but it does, and I choose to take a simple step to work around the issue rather than gripe about it.

They cannot accommodate everybody requesting a center seat.

Of course they can’t, but only a fraction of guests would ever think to ask, and that fraction can easily be accommodated. The irony is that the average guest who doesn’t know better will enjoy the attraction wherever they’re seated, whereas the WDW afficianados here who know that CMs always grant such requests are making it seem like the hardest thing in the world.

They do not always grant those requests.

I know tone is so hard to convey sometimes, but your comment seems a little harsh ... and personal.

@LittleBuford is not responsible for the banana tower; nor is he a Disney shill. All he is saying is that he enjoys the film, especially from the centre section.

I also enjoy the new film, but am on record saying that I think the original is vastly superior. Doesn’t mean I don’t see the new one at least 6-8 times per trip. Half the time I will specifically request a seat in the centre section, and half the time I will just sit wherever I end up.

And no, I won’t use my Tier 1 FP for it. That’s for the sisters in Norway. 😂

I disagree with all of this...but it is April fools so take that with a huge grain of salt.

They do not always grant those requests.

I missed this earlier, so forgive me for briefly getting us off track again. I often ask for particular seats on various attractions, and I’ve never been refused. I sometimes have to wait a few minutes for the next set of vehicles to be loaded, but that’s it. I’d be curious to know if anyone has actually had their seating requests turned down.

I have on multiple occasions been refused on a few rides, including Soarin. In most cases they accommodate with no issues. Sometimes they’ll push back softly hoping you’ll change your mind, and sometimes they’ll just say they can’t do requested seating right now. So usually it’s effective but asking isn’t a guarantee you’ll be able to get it.
