First off, first post I saw Mary Poppins yesterday and I have to say I really enjoyed it. Loved the music and of course it can’t outdo the original but it comes close. At this point it really is a no brainer to put it in the UK (that pavilion already has my favorite food in WDW the Yorkshire country fish shop). What stops them from retheming the backside to cherry tree lane and sticking a dark ride in the back? Ala the original Jolly Holiday proposed ride all those years back? Yes I get Disney these days is only drived by one thing that sweet $$$ but, I’m sure Mary Poppins is beloved enough to have a successful attraction at EPCOT. Like said above Pooh is an adored character (escipally by me) really think the same kinda situation could happen here. Heck I would be fine if they incorporated the new songs as I really enjoyed them. I also think the little slip by the production designer about a “ride” warrants more discussion I hope this film does incredibly well.

Exactly, it should be a no brainer. So why aren't they eager to commit? It's so bizarre to me. But I guess since Poppins isn't built anywhere else already ... it's less appealing. But hey, a lot of people seemed just fine with a Carousel (if that is what they should choose), so what do I know? I mean, why not both a carousel and a dark ride and make use of the old Pooh m&g for an indoor Poppins M&G. (I was slightly surprised they didn't bring Pooh and pals back to the UK during the Christopher Robin release as sort of a promotion but I guess since the characters looked more realistic than the animated series ...) I also don't really see the Poppins merch flying off the shelves either. Not an indicator of popularity, mind you, but I imagine merchandise sales are a factor in both Mary and Coco.

Why should that matter though? It’s MARY POPPINS the legendary movie that is arguably the crown jewel of Disney’s earlier decade of live action. I highly doubt that it not being build anywhere else plays a factor. Merch I can see being a factor but even that...I’m sure the talented people at Disney are fine at creating amazing pieces of merch. For amazing prices...of course Disney’s prices. As for ride design, IT IS SO EASY the ride WRITES ITSELF...this decision is so beyond me...but we also live in a world where Disney still won’t acknowledge anything to do with the Muppets, or Kingdom Hearts (the latter really isn’t their fault due to the rights but come on Disney). The potential for character greeting is also SUPER OBVIOUS it baffles the mind how when the showcase started to get rides to tie into country Mary Poppins wasn’t installed right away. Moreover, while a jolly holiday spinner type could be cool with the proper theming...Mary Poppins deserves so much more.

I'm agreeing with you ;) (it shouldn't matter) it's beyond silly why this hasn't already happened and why they seem to be hemming and hawing at what to do.

At this point..I have no idea either but hey this has a high probability of being successful. If this new movie turns out to be profitable for them (it really deserves it and I’d imagine it would be successful) then they really shouldn’t have a reason to not put it in. Here’s hoping for an announcement soon...probably at D23 I really do think that if a production designer mentioned a “ride” by name something had to be in the works. Nice to see people agree with me on this though :)

Most of us agree that it's a no-brainer. But we also know what matters to those making the decisions. Can they profit off of the attraction? Bobby loves merchandise so I imagine merch sales are a huge factor in Coco (that and with so much else needing work, I can see why they wouldn't rush to overlay Gran Fiesta, even if it's one of the best overlays they could do, IMO) and Mary Poppins. Poppins and Coco don't really scream "merchandise sales" but you'd think both would be no brainers.

With Rat and Tron, but were built elsewhere already, "sure things" in the minds of those in charge. For some odd reason, it doesn't seem to be the case when it comes to new builds. It's weird how they think. Poppins just lends itself so wonderfully to a dark ride.

After The Greatest Showman (and Jumanji) last year, I'd give it several more weeks before we can really start to get a clear idea on box office potential.

Yeah, it's way too early. It wasn't going to be a blockbuster on a Wednesday the week before Christmas. This isn't a super hero flick. I think a lot of factors go into performance. I'm sure Disney would have loved blockbuster results right off the bat but it's been like two days ... lol

Mary Poppins Returns is a fun movie that truly feels like a sequel to the original in most ways. The soundtrack may not be as much of an earworm as, say, The Greatest Showman, but the music is still very good. The music just works better seeing the visual along with it rather than listening to it on spotify on repeat. Of course the story is almost a side project in the end, but it still manages to draw emotion.

The best thing about the movie is easily Emily Blunt, however, giving one of her best performances of her career and also doing a good job of making the character her own. She did it so well that I didn't even think about Julie Andrews the entire movie. Compare that to SOLO where Alden Ehrenreich never came off as a believable Han Solo. I still would think about Ford. She did an admirable job filling large shoes and I think she stands a decent chance to win some best actress awards.

As for a ride, i'm not exactly sure how much B.O. will play into whether a ride happens, it just may play into what kind of ride we get? For instance, if the film does really well and wins a lot of awards, maybe we get that dark ride. If it under-performs, maybe we just get a spinner. Of course, remember, @marni1971 mentioned that Brave was once targeted for this spot, so box office returns obviously aren't a make or break. I assume that Poppins doesn't move a ton of merch, however, which could be an issue in some of the suits eyes. But when you have a classic character like Poppins associated so seamlessly with your brand, you pull the trigger.

BOX OFFICE UPDATE: Mary Poppins Returns weekend box office fell on the softer side of projections, bringing in an estimated 5-day domestic total of $31M per BoxOfficeMojo.

The film was received generally well by audiences and is expected to have some legs.
If Coco's box office performance didn't guarentee it an attraction, I doubt box office performance will impact Mary Poppin's chances.

Disney's management believe newer is always better.

I’ve never been excited about this Mary Poppins sequel. I’ll probably see it at some point, but this just isn’t something my family was clamoring for Disney to make. Julie Andrews is Mary Poppins — no need for an imitation IMO.

That said, an attraction based on the original is something we’d love!

If any suits were actually waiting to see how their imitation did in order to decide about an attraction, that seems like faulty thinking to me. Some love the ORIGINAL so much they’re not into the imitation... that wouldn’t indicate a lack of interest in the Mary Poppins IP wrt an attraction.
