Anna & Elsa "Coronation"

Yes, Elsa is the Queen of Arendelle but she'll become a Princess of Disney. Can a royal hold 2 titles?

Yes, historically. King George III of England was simultaneously the "Prince Elector" of Hanover, although prince means a different thing in this context than heir to a king. It's also possible to be on one throne and heir to another, for example Olaf II became king of Denmark in 1376, while his grandfather was king of Norway. Olaf was for four years the king of Denmark and heir to the throne of Norway, which he inherited in 1380.

No idea if this has anything to do with Frozen. I haven't seen it yet.

Well, they can't "exactly" do this. They treat Mulan and Pocahontas as though they don't even exist anymore. That's more of a "who?" response. They can't do that with Elsa who is by-and-large as popular as (if not more so) than Anna.
Totally disagree, I have there girls, college, hs and grade school and Anna is the favorite,, by a mile

I'd love to see them at a coronation. I think it would be beautiful! Regarding the Elsa thoughts..I can assure you hands down she is insanely popular to the point that people are selling the Elsa dolls and shirts on ebay (this is why I haven't been able to find anything Elsa except a coffee mug!) for $50 upwards to over $100. I've been in the Disney Store 3 weeks in a row and nothing Elsa. As soon as it comes in..it sells out within the hour. It is insane! I honestly thought after seeing the movie (twice mind you) that Anna would have been the one every little girl had to have a piece of....as my Disney BFF pointed out - they made Elsa too beautiful, too real. The hair, her gown...the pain in her voice when she sings "Let It Go". Everyone connects with that song in one form or another hence the insane draw to Elsa. Me included. I have an Elsa coffee mug, cup, screen savers, photos, pre-ordered Frozen and have the lithographs displayed. Yes I'm an adult Elsa dork! Not afraid to admit it either. :D

You didn't buy the digital download? its available on amazon and iTunes already. I have watched it 3 times already.

Technically, only Jasmine, Rapunzel, Meirida, Aurora, and Ariel were born princesses. the rest married in...

Snow White and Aurora are also both princesses by birth, and now Anna and Elsa. Historically speaking, Pocahontas was also considered an American Princess. Of the Disney Princess Line, Cinderella, Belle, and Tiana are the only ones to gain their titles by marring into royalty. And then you have Mulan… She is one of my favorites, but I have a hard time thinking of her as a princess.

Pocahontas was the daughter of a chief, who was elected. Chief was not a title that was handed down to your children in the tribe like a King. Being an Algonquain Chief was similar to being mayor or governor. Powhatan, Pocahontas father oversaw a number of tribes each of which also had it's own chief that reported to him making him top of the command structure but he was elected and could be replaced She was called an Indian Princess when she traveled to England but being called a princess doesn't make you one.

And why not Gisele? hahaha if we are really broadening our definition why not add Leia from star wars and the blue avatar princess.

And I'm pretty sure Miss Piggy thinks she's royalty:p:p:p:p:p

Happy Friday Everyone!

Question for you all:

If history is any guide, Anna and Elsa will soon be formally inducted into the Disney Royal Court or whatever it's called with the rest of the official Disney Princesses -- especially given how well the movie has done. That's fine with respect to Anna, she is a princess after all.

What do they do with Elsa, though? She's a queen, which obviously trumps mere princess status. Does she get knocked down a rung? Does she become the ruler of all Disney Princesses? Do they just have her join the court with everyone else as an equal but make no mention of the fact that she technically outranks all of them?

Kinda joking, but I am legitimately curious to see how they handle this little wrinkle...

I've been wondering about this too! When I first heard that Anna and Elsa were being put into the line-up, I thought, "Why Elsa? She's a queen!" I don't understand Disney sometimes..

And, in my personal opinion, I like Anna better than Elsa.
Elsa's awesome and all, but I find Anna more relatable. :D

I think they will have the coronation, however not emphasize the titles. Still however, calling her as Queen Elsa but placing her among the princess and just simply ignoring it. "She was once a princess" can be their excuse and market it with all the other girls. Disney not going to care that much in if or if not she's not exactly a direct princess.

Pertaining to Pocahontas and Mulan, I always let Pocahontas slide because even though she wasn't technically a "princess" her father was the Chief of the tribe. She was treated differently and given certain privileges and additional respect because of her father's position...kind of like a princess being treated special because she is the daughter of a king.
Mulan, on the other hand, is a different story. While I enjoy the movie and I do admit she did admirable and brave things to protect not only her father but also her country...she is neither born royal or with superior rank, nor does she marry into royalty. Li Shang, while possessing the title of Captain in military ranks, is not a prince. He is a soldier. Point blank period.
Anywho, just thought I would ramble about that for a minute...its something that has always irked me.
