Animal Kingdom update 6.2.15

I'll never get over the ONE podcast I happened to listen to in which Jim Hill said that Disney builds things every 3.5 years because that's how often a family returns to visit. I mean ... SERIOUSLY? We all know it's to spread out the cost. They could have probably had Rivers of Light ready to go LAST year if they truly wanted it done.
What would be bold is if Disney didn't listen to Disney. That would be a straight game changer.

I know construction is good, but getting tired of trips seeing walls and scaffolding every time. Yes, I have the choice of not going but still take trips. Universal fast tracks there projects and wish Disney would also. Between hub reconfiguration and now AK, I hope theirs less "ugly views" by our trip in January 2016.

Can't have things both ways my badger friend. For what they are doing time frames really aren't that bad (not including avatar but thankfully that's out of guest sightlines mostly).

Indeed. The turnaround for the Harambe Theater project was quite fast, comparatively speaking.

And New Fantasyland took five years...LOL. For half a decade no guest walked into Fantasyland without seeing construction walls. For 2 D-tickets, a restaurant, and a bunch of landscaping.

Yet Universal can take down a building, build an E-ticket, and have opening day within 18 months.

The thing about construction is largely you get what you pay for - you can pay more and get it faster, or you can pay less and get it slower. It can be done, Disney just chooses not to.

(BTW, the Muppets are so cool, aren't they?)

And yet Disney is STILL beating them. Funny, that.

Yes, yes they are. They should add something to Rafiki's Planet Watch, like a short film where Kermit talks about all kinds of amphibians and their role in the environment.

LOL...not in building quality attractions they aren't. The point is, if Universal can do it, since Disney is so much grander and making so much more money, it's embarrassing that the little dinky park down the road can do it so much more quickly and efficiently and what they end up building is even more impressive than what Disney puts out these days. ;)

Now that's a natural fit! The Muppets sure would be really appropriate to the theme of AK and there are so many places they could do it, too.

I believe Disney paid more for the Fantasyland expansion than Universal did for Potter, which makes the construction length less because they are getting what they paid for and more they intentionally took longer to spread Capex costs over multiple years. This is my perspective at least, which could be wrong.

And look at the better quality attractions, shops, restaurants and scenery that they placed at Universal. It all puts the Disney addition to shame. Don't get me wrong I love Disney but they have taken a downward spiral in the last several years and there is no indication that they are going to start to go up from it. Yes Disney has Universal beat in the numbers but in quality of recent builds Universal wins.

It simply comes down to Disney not having to try as hard because of the brand. They don't have to spend as much on attractions and lands because smarter and better people ran the parks much better years ago.

I definitely consider myself more discerning than your average past disney guest, and without a doubt, universal is putting out more quality. Disney is just doing enough to bring in first timers and addicts.

I fall into the addict category - LOL
