Animal kingdom needs help

Looking over the Neverland Files, one idea that would be cool to add would be the three tiered carousel. I think that -- or even a smaller variation of that -- would be a good addition to Discovery Island, adding to the the ride count but being a relatively cheap option. And it would fit in well with the overall theme of DAK.

For me, AK feels very "tight." I know the pathways are more than wide enough to handle the traffic, but with the 50' tall bamboo on either side, I get very claustrophobic. It also feels much warmer because you can see the breeze blowing the tops of the bamboo, but very little actually gets down to ground level. After a couple of hours, I need to escape. Consequently, I only vist AK every 3rd or 4th trip ... and it's only for half a day, or less.

i personally enjoy AK, i think for the fact that I really feel transported to some far off lands. MK, Epcot and DHS are fun too, but they lack that escapism.

however, when we do disney its me my wife our 4 kids plus my in laws and nephew. and, i am in the minority.

every time we go-including last week-my MIL always complains that AK feels like its hotter than any other park we were in our entire stay. and when we were there, we had a really bad day.

we always start w/ tuskar house for the character breakfast, but this one was far and away the worst experience there. service was bad, set us in a bad mood, and got us out into the park later. managed to get on the safari, which was great-we like it every time, but since 2011 when we were there last, its been changed and we enjoyed them.
but got off and heard kali river was 60 minutes + and we weren't doing that. went, saw the FOTLK finally which was awesome, my kids got in the parade and had a blast. then my daughter had a meltdown and we left the park. skipped dinosaur, didn't bother with dinoland usa. only me and my nephew would have gone on everest but he chickened out-and we left before we could have ridden anyways.

like i said, i like the park. but whether its perception or reality, between the "its hotter than the others" (which i dont believe) or theres not a ton to do (im split)...it needs more. the carousel would be neat, i heard of the new pocahontas meet and greet coming which would keep us in the park for a bit. but some more rides are needed, above and beyond (and actually, before) avatar.

that wooden coaster idea would have been neat. could have even done a jr/sr theme to it, with a kiddie friendly version and a more thrill-oriented one as well.

The sad thing is that Walt Disney Pictures made all those wonderful nature documentaries back in the 50s and 60s.

And they are still doing it today...imagine if Animal Kingdom were to scrap Avatarland and create a REAL "Bear Country"!

They could theme the land to be Brownstone National Park, plus meet and greets with Humphrey and Ranger Woodlore.

You remember those guys, right?

And the land could have different bears of North America on display...and a wooden roller coaster.

The best part is....Disney actually has a bear nature documentary coming to theaters soon.

No sense in looking at Fox Studios' blue cat people for inspiration.

Would changing the name of the park benifit from it once Pandora is alive? Heck if they just added a few more things to it you can change it from Animal to Adventure. Since the Majority of Animals are seen on KS.

Its maybe not literally hotter, but definitely more humid and stagnant due to all of the vegetation and tight paths blocking breezes. If you manage to go to the park on a cooler winter day, its gorgeous.
that was kinda my thought--mostly that the plant life made it feel more like a jungle/rain forest and thus, hotter. since it was vacation in august in FL, i really wasn't checking the weather, so far all i know it could have been the hottest day of the whole trip to boot, that just happened to be when we went to AK.

FettFan makes a brilliant point, not just about the Bear documentary but really, all of Disney Nature's recent works.

I have zero against new rides in AK-though not a fan of Avatar-but when you have a wonderfully themed zoo-like park, keep that the central focus, with rides and worlds themed around nature and animals. if Disney is hell-bent on tying in IP to the park...well thats a different story.

If you could see what was supposed to be in this park and what has been pitched, begged and pleaded, by Joe, I think your opinions would be different.

No kidding. Tiger River Rapids, Beastly Kingdom, the Excavator, pretty much everything in the park was subject to major budget cuts, resulting in a very underbuilt experience. Now what was built is suffering from major show issues.

Sometimes, I think DAK even falls flat even by zoo standards....one will barely see any animals unless one makes it all the way to the Pangani or Maharaja trails.

Me: "Oh look, there's a parrot here in the Oasis Gardens or Genesis Gardens or whatever they are calling it now!"
Cast Member: "If you get lucky you might see two parrots!"
Me: "TWO parrots?!" *swoons*

This too, there aren't even that many zoo exhibits in the park. I guess some people just don't have a zoo near their house.

I do somewhat agree. But their is just too little to do. If they maybe fleshed out the walks a bit, it would be much better. Much of the time I feel like I am just walking in the middle of nothing surrounded by 50 foot bamboo and a bunch of nothing.

Yeah, I like the DAK vibe but for the amount of money they charge for entry, they need to offer more value.

ITA.

It does feel hotter because it is so humid and there are few breezes. People who say "It's hotter than the other parks!" aren't wrong.

But on warm days or slightly cool days, it is glorious.

I wouldn't call it a zoo. Zoos have cages and enclosures galore, they are all about viewing animals. Except for the safari, I haven't seen too many animals at AK at all. You have to look for them specifically in certain areas (the Trail and Trek, FoW show). Zoos also don't usually have musical performances like FotLK and Nemo, or roller coaster rides like EE and PWhirl
Here's what I think: Develop another Earth continent area (Australian outback, the Amazon, Antarctica- oh wait, SeaWorld did that one) and include themed shopping and dining, maybe another E-ticket or two carefully designed and placed. NO interest in Avatar- it wasn't even that good of a movie, I don't even remember what it was about!

I agree it could use a few attractions, but I think the reason it's so spread out is that thankfully they have the care and health of the animals in mind, and they give them room to actually be animals and not confine them tightly for our convenience and pleasure.

I guess if you aren't into the animals that much, it could be a half day park, but every time I leave I feel I haven't seen everything I've wanted to.

AK is my favorite park. If every one in my party would let me I could stay all day in Asia and Africa just watching the tigers and gorillas.

I think Disney needs to use their ACTUAL Disney movies Like Jungle Book, Tarzan, and maybe another Lion King attraction and put those in the park! AND a Bug's Life and Pocahontas! there's several Disney movies that aren't represented that they could do so much with! They used to have Tarzan and Pocahontas but not anymore! It does need major help!

Or they could do what made their theme parks famous, and not base every attraction on the movies. I'll never understand why some of you demand that all attractions be based on Disney and only Disney properties, or that they have to be based on something at all.
