Animal kingdom needs help

I understand what the two trails are - the unoffical guide makes it sound like they get crowded at certain times, and it becomes difficult to see the exhibits. Maybe it won't be a problem - especially in late October, just prepared.

We will definitely check out the ToL gardens and Oasis - I took them off the list because I didn't think they really counted as "attractions," but thanks for the tip, we'll be sure to enjoy them!
In late October they are not crowded at all. At least that is my experience. Just make sure to see the all male fruit bat area. If you have small ones just be prepared for "questions" or make them blind folds, just in case. And yes the cast member will explain what is happening in a professional way if some one asks "What is that one doing? Is it really liking it own p***s?" I have never giggled so much at a animal exhibit.

Well, if they bill the Fruit Bat exhibit as being "All-Male," then I guess people are getting what they're advertising.

Heading for the great escape.
Ive got some old bikes a scooter a pond full of frogs and newts and a cat they can have. Ive also got a battery powered parrot that shouts obscenities. Would they help?

The only area I think that is lacking is the space between Africa and Asia. I love the Tree of Life photo opportunities, but is a pretty exhausting trek. I don't really think they can add rides to this section however. They could create more shelter from the heat on this stretch though.

They really should have utilized the waterways for a ferry. Plus it would be a absolutely beautiful boat ride.

I think AK is the most beautiful park of the 4 and is worth exploring, but its also the hottest. It can really wear you down moving from one area to another. The ferry would allow guests to actually sit back and appreciate what is all around them.

I like the open space. It's a zoo. I feel both ways on a night time show. A river show would be cool, but I am concerned about extra stress on the animals (which I think is why they close earlier anyways).

It's so pretty. It's the calmest an prettiest of the parks. I love the fact that I'm not bombarded by stuff at the AK. I wish they'd add animals, not take them away!

I've always been okay with there not being a night show. I'd prefer that instead of putting in an AK night show, they add fireworks to Wishes and Illuminations.

Brilliant! You must really be a Park Goddess!

an entire land, ill-suited to the park, based on a film that DH and I thought was pretentious, ham-fisted and utterly forgettable except for its CGI achievements? I'm sure many others will enjoy it (obviously a few million people disagree with my assessment of the movie), but I think we'll pass.

You are not alone on your thoughts about the movie and where it fits. I will also throw in predictable. One should never confuse quality with popularity, but with a stateside gross of 800 mil and over 2.7B globally, the sales speaks for itself. The $64,000 question remains to be seen if it can transfer from the screen to the park.

With that said I love AK. Its almost like a day off, if I can say that, when contrasted with the other parks.

You know what "bugs" me more about Animal Kingdom? Their slogan. The commercial says "Animal Kingdom, it's many things, but there's one thing it's NOT ... Nahtazu!!". Wait, so it's NOT Nahtazu?! It IS a Zu?? I'm so confused ..

lol

They stopped the Nahtazu campaign a long time ago. I thought it was cute, but you are correct. It is a zoo. :)

I think the ad guy just sneezed at the end of his pitch and the Disney execs mistook it as part of the campaign.

But dont the wildlife train, Kali River Rapids, and the flight of wonder show take up the space between Asia and Africa?

Not sure if this is a joke or not, but the cracked pavement is intentional and the area is supposed to look tacky. (yes, it's kind of a cop-out to build something cheap and then say "it looks cheap on purpose!")
The Yeti's not supposed to work either. The back story is there's this corporation dominated by short-term thinking that rewards its execs for building stuff but not for maintaining it.

That's brilliant! Such a great putdown of the ridiculousness of silly backstories to sell to the public the travesties of Chester and Hester, Starbuckses everywhere, and the destruction of MS West for a tiny Emporium expansion.

Also, for ease of reference here's a stylised map of DAK that appears to be true to scale.

Um... the only real gap I see is a small space between Africa and Asia right in front of the Wildlife train.... that space doesn't seem big enough to fit anything really...
I don't expect them to put any attractions there. Just place something at a certain point in the path that can offer some heat relief. A small shop with a/c. Cover the walkway and add fans.

This is going to sound very in line with TDO, but I think more (yes, more) gift shops. It may just be me, but along with attractions, AK SEEMS to have a lack of shops. Maybe it's perception or I'm oblivious, but compared to the other three parks, it's sort of barren. Of course I'd want unique and original merchandise, and I'd like to see a store specializing in animal related books and media. Not children's books or toys, but adult oriented science/reference material on wildlife, pre-historic life, and perhaps even mythology? No Avatar blu-ray please. Of course any additional respite from the brutal (but authentic) heat would greatly be appreciated.
