Hi All!

So, DH and I were "tweaking" our ADR's and spreadsheet for our upcoming trip and we need some opinions.

We want to eat 2 meals at AK. One at Yak and Yeti and one...well, we can't choose. We would love your help! what would you choose and why? Some back story, in the past, we have only stuck to Tusker for bfast and Yak and Yeti for lunch bc early on, nothing else really impressed us. What would you choose and why?

Thanks!

Well for us AK is becoming the fav park aside of MK but Tusker is a winner no matter what. The characters are there breakfast and lunch and they consider lunch up to 4:30. It really is the best interaction there. Buffet is good and the juice is to die for>>>>> Flame tree is good and is now going thru a refurb. Not sure when its adone. But I tried the salad they had and it was really good. Never had tried it and so glad I did. Th pulled pork sandwiches are great. Last Nov we had a pizza at it the one that has several rooms, and it was good, and I am not a pizza fan.Yak and Yeti has a great dinner we love the shoax steak and shrimp but going to try the CS this next time in Oct. We go 2 full days to that park and love it more each time..

Tusker House is a great buffet for lunch (although I did it before they added characters about five years ago).
But for counter service, I have enjoyed Yak & yeti (good standard Chinese food) and Flame Tree (I love the bbq beans!). Pizzafari & Restaurantosaurous are nothing special, pretty much the same pizza & burgers that can be found in the other parks.

The only CS we ever eat at AK is FlameTree, and thats for lunch. I'm not sure how long they are under refurbishment though so this may not be helpful. We like sharable platters they have and I think its the only CS in any park that takes TiW, another bonus! As for a dinner ADRs, just hang at the park til near closing time then swing over to AKL and hit up Boma, Jiko, or Sanaa.

Thanks! I appreciate all the input! I am not sure when the refurb will be done but I think it is "Spring 2015". I didn't like the pizza at Pizzafari when we went but again, this was years and years ago. We usually only have one meal at AK - either Tusker for bfast or Yak and Yeti for lunch while at AK. And this time, we are having two meals. Do we know if Flame Tree is getting a new menu or is the eating area just being refurbed?

Tusker house is like going commando, once you try it you cant stop..

We have only been for breakfast. I am not a picky eater but I am not really adventurous. For example, we went to Boma and I don't think I took full advantage of the deliciousness b/c I was a bit cautious.

I was thinking about that. With our DS, we thought about staying to close or nearly closed (7 pm) and then see if we could catch a movie at the resort depending on what it is and what time. We even thought about just getting a pizza and watching the movie at the resort but I don't think I am taking full advantage of the AK experience. Its been a couple of years since I have been to AK b/c we skipped it when I was preggo last year and took a short Epcot/MK trip in 2013.

Thanks! I appreciate the review! That's what I was thinking - I can get the burger any where. I'm thinking Flame Tree if its open is the leading contender. We have a BBQ joint in our building so get BBQ carryout more then we should. :) So i'm a bit BBQ'd out. :) But it might be the only/best option, unless we choose to do Tusker House. hmmm...why can't I make a decision on this! :)

We had lunch at Restrauntosaurus on our last visit to AK, for the sole reason that it was air-conditioned and the day was unseasonably hot and humid. The menu is nothing special, but it has ample indoor seating with some fun theming (we ate inside a booth in a vintage airstream trailer that is inside one of the dining rooms -- that was pretty cool).

Tusker House lunch is great! More unique food from a Disney buffet, great décor and atmosphere, and Mickey in his safari gear is the perfect combination on an AK day. Highly recommend. :)

I believe the menu is staying the same. They are refurbishing the eating area by having covered walkways to the eating pavillions and providing more seating looking ahead to the nighttime show to be offered at some point in the future. I think the refurb is done by April. Personally, I've never eaten anywhere but Flame Tree, although I have a dinner ADR at Yak in May.

I love AK and am happy to see it getting some love here. For counter service, we usually always go to Yak and Yet. Flame Tree is good too - they have a lot of really nice outdoor seating, some with great views. Tamu Tamu refreshments in Africa has a limited but good menu. Their chicken salad with "African spices" tasted like a regular chicken salad, so if you're not too adventurous you can still find stuff you'll like here.

You will love Y&Y. We normally do CS. But one year we did a TS lunch and I had a dessert that I still think about!!!! The fried wontons! YUM!

Thanks so much! I am not adventurous. But I should be and I let it hold me back. I'm the type that goes to the same restaurant and gets the same thing. I want to be the person that goes to a new place all the time or tries a new thing on the menu each time. Thanks for the tip about Tamu Tamu.

We love Y&Y lunch and those pineapple wontons are delish. I agree with @Weather_Lady Restaurantosaurus is great for a break from the heat and you can get drink refills since it's self serve. We are going back to Yak & Yeti in May and I can't wait.
