Animal Kingdom a sleeping Giant!!!

Lets hope the Excavator gets built somewhere, in some form. A Zoological park is fine, but as a major park it needs to be more than that (see Busch Gardens..)

There is some space behind Everest, but they can`t go further East towards Reedy Creek due to the ground conditions. The main expansion area now is the original Beastly Kingdom location (South West corner) - that was (and still is) the major `phase 2` area, after Asia.

Lets not forget Camp Minne-Mickey was thrown together as a meet and greet area. Design didn`t even start until AFTER the park was under construction, at a cost of - what was it now - $1 to $4 million. All of a sudden (!) the powers that be realised the park was under capacity....

Hopefully after Everest and whatever is the next big development (Muppets, Indy EMV, its GOT to be something at the Studios) we will see REAL progress at AK. Don`t get me wrong, Everest is not a D ticket, Kali is very good, but its not exactly Sunset Blvd. size, or Space Mountain/Star Jets/WEDWay/CoP (all opened within months of each other) is it?

well if Excavater were to be built (but seems Everest is a combination of Dragon's Tower and Excavator), Dino Rama could probably be removed in a matter of days...

As for Primevil whril, it's fun but I can see it in the future being renamed Excavator due to "budget issues" and not wanting to get the guests mad...

Good point. Probably be `Monsters Inc. Excavator`, with a brand new $200 paint job. Hey - that would double its value! Wait a minute - Monsters - it could be the centerpiece of Beastly Kingdom!

Next up was a plan to copy California Screamin` directly from DCA to AK. Still nothing happened there.

Actually not that huge. Smaller than Big Thunder, and classified as a family coaster. Something for the "Family". Would have been cool though. Saw a model once....

And the Screamin copy was much more likely at Boardwalk. But, even that didn't get too far.

That's a shame, I really thought it would have been a great addition to the Boardwalk. Any idea why it wasn't done?
(BTW Lee your "Location" brought a smile to my face...ah the 80's)

Animal Kingdom

It's just a natural progression of things. We go to the parks and are wowed. We go to them again and are wowed by familiar things we've come to know and love, but to keep it really Magical, there needs to always be something new to look forward to, something to think about in the months leading up to our trip. Yes this is in the Mouse's grand plan.....open a park and slowly build it to it's full potential....after all we go back time and again for the same thing don't we........the Magic.....and alittle mystery keeps it exciting....

I think it had to do with the fact that the noise would disrupt resort guests. Besides, they would have to charge individually for it.

Disney would have a problem charging us for something?

I never put the fact that there is a Deluxe resort right there into the equation. Makes sense.
Still...would have been cool.

The Animal Kingdom is my least favorite park. Rather than visit the park for an entire day, we've adopted a strategy to visit for several hours on several days, usually late in the afternoon after we've spent most of the day in another park.

I'm keeping an open mind about future enhancements and patiently look forward to any changes that will make our visit a more enjoyable experience.

I have to add that the Animal Kingdom Lodge is one of my most favorite hotels ever...very unique. I love it!:sohappy:

Yeah, but I bet guests would have had a problem with that. Besides, I think Screaming would have been awfully out of place at the Boardwalk. An actual wooden roller coaster (not one painted to look wooden), a ferris wheel, and merry-go-round would have been nice though. Instead, we got Luna Park Pool.

Screamin could be built at the Boardwalk. It's just that a lot of soundproofing would have to be done. For example, the ride would need sand filled rails and also, the walls facing the ride would have to be altered to absorb almost 100% of the sound from the ride.

But, it could be done.

i love ak, i love the lush greenery- it's the most relaxing park... i could stay on kalie river rapids all day (except in dec/jan- it gets kinda chilly!) dinosaur is great too.

however, it could use a few more things...perhaps an interactive crocodile hunter-esque alligator wrestling attraction or bull fighting adventure. or maybe some kind of survivor thing (i know thats cbs) where you have to live in the wild, make fire, and kill your own food???? this would cost extra, like a backstage tour...

Yes. Disney loves the unethical treatment of animals...

I thought it was supposed to be a woodie, and it definitely pre-dated any idea of California Screemin' - Boardwalk has been around for quite a while, now.

I think that they were too afraid it would draw away attendance from Epcot, being so close and all. But the model sure looked nice.

I read somewhere a while back that the Boardwalk was supposed to have something like Screamin' and the whole midway thing. Can't remember where I read it though.

AK is def a sleeping giant. with so much land there is little that they couldnt do if they wanted to, like actually build the land with dragons and unicorns and mythical creatures like they had originally planned

The original oncept for Boardwalk was that it was going to be a separate area - there would be a wooden rollercoaster, a few
classic type rides and various games. There would also be a number of restaurants and a few clubs. It wouldn't be an actual park and there would not be an overall admission price. I think the idea was really to create that area, with the Boarwalk and Yacht and Beach and Swan and Dolphin as sort of a village unto itself. They had even went so far as to publically anounce it in a few magazines. Obviously it never happened but I think it may have had a lot to do with West Side Disney and even Chester's and Hester's Fried Chicken in AK.
